Great review video. I really wish you had done a comparison with the cheaper import version, as this would have shown if the usa-made version was worth the extra money. .

I was going to, but the two models are based on different production years, so it wasn’t quite an apples to apples comparison. Thanks for checking out the video!

One thing you might consider adding to your sound test is striking the strings with the sound all the way down, then turning it up and down slowly. Just to demonstrate how smooth the knob operates.

True. I had a LOT of corruption issues with the files on this video. I think my camera is acting up, and I needed to get the video out because I’m going to be busy for a few weeks. I appreciate the support as always!

Great video. This is the type of guitar spec breakdown I want to listen to/watch. I hate when guys say, 'here is the newly released Coronet that I just got. Here is what it sounds like'. And then they go on to play a rehearsed piece of music. I want to hear a guy talk about the guitar's components and specs and then for the sound or demo, I just want to hear them play some big, fat E chords and maybe a couple of pentantonic scales. Nothing fancy.. nothing rehearsed.

I have a Gibson SG Junior and I would take it again over this Epiphone USA Coronet. I think it looks better and it was less money (although I bought it a few years ago). This was a great video/review.

As someone who’s loved vintage Epiphones since they were new guitars, I love the idea of doing USA made Epiphone vintage reissues. That said, this one struck me as an odd choice. Not the Coronet per se, but the late 50s Coronet predates the key changes that made the model a lot cooler for most of us. I would have far rather they’d reissued a 60s version with the asymmetrical body and batwing headstock. I think, even at this price, that version would sell way better. I’d love to buy one to replace the one stolen back in the early 70s. The late 50s models may be historically significant, but the 60s models are the more attractive evolution of the design.
@CompanyGrip
@CompanyGrip Месяц назад
Agreed! The next iteration of the Coronet was a better looker.

Interesting about the 'split in half' Tele thing. Something about this shape just seems weird to me . . . I hope Gibson do some quality Rivieras, Sheratons, Broadways - they would be worth paying Gibson prices for if they get them right, I think. The US made Casino seems to have disappeared without a trace . . . couple of luke warm reviews and that's about it. I have the Chinese made one which has a great feel and with Lollars, '50s Wiring, Bone Nut etc at a pretty modest cost I love it.

I like the color of the made in USA model, but the imports body shape I think looks better. I have received the case candy in Epiphone basses for my Thunderbird, you get a cloth, stickers (a lot of them), an allen wrench, and a warranty card. If the made in USA does well, they may create a better case candy package. However, the Gibson one is probably the better deal just because of the multi tool.
@CompanyGrip

I REALLY like the look of it. I guess the price is just what you're going to get with anything coming out of Nashville. And of course had I waited until the end of your film to comment, I'd agree with you about $1200 being the right price.

Love what you’re doing with these videos. They’re so much more detailed than anything I’m willing to put the time into. My videos are more about what guitars I want to fill in the collection. So, curious, did you pick this one up just to see what it was like or did something about it intrigue you to own it? The Theodore is like that for me- I have no reason to want it, but I feel like I “should” have it because I have all the other body styles. I wish they would make a standard production like version of that with the P-90s like the original custom shop one had.
@CompanyGrip
@CompanyGrip 3 месяца назад
Thanks for checking it out! To be honest with you, it’s a combination of both things. Wanting the guitars and also to check out new models. In this particular case, I’ve been shopping for a vintage coronet for a while, but they are so expensive when they are in good shape(understably), so when this came out it checked enough boxes to pick it up. But generally, I’m trying to collect some of the more unusual Gibson’s if I can. That’s what I would like to fill my collection with.

I had an original cherry '62(the Marriot model) for years..had to let her go a while back...just got this new model in ebony..I'm so glad folk don't like it (there will be less jokers with 'em)...I absolutely adore it...I'm using it with Atomic Rooster and it's BRUTAL through my Supro Black Magik X...nerd p.s. I kept the original knobs from my '62 in a small box ..now they're on this...not a fan of those cream things.. I hear what folk say re LP junior..but this Epi is Badass the minute you strap it on...the shape and balance makes you stand proud.....whereas the LPJ is..well...kinda like a child size guitar...no offence like

This thing is way over priced.. and i love the coronet.. i bought the chinese reissue verison last year here in the UK.. i wanted to mod it.. so i installed 50s wiring.. changed it to a faber bridge. Had the carousel knobs 3d printed.. i wanted a new yorker pickup.. contacted curtis novak in California.. he makes them and they're amazing. He also did a custom scratch plate.. so all in i have one that looks like a 59 coronet and sounds like one for £650. This coronet i would have wanted to be historically accurate .. have the new yorker pickup . The 3 on a plate tuners.. and the price!! Thats just ridiculous.. its 1000-1200 . If the price comes down into that region i may consider one.. but not at what they're currently asking.. im betting my build will play and sound infinitely better.. New subscriber from UK.. nice review

Epiphone was not a "budget" brand when Gibson bought it in 1957, it was a high end company that unfortunately feel on hard times. I would take an original 59-62 coronet over a similar age Junior any day.

$100 USD more than a Gibson Les Paul Junior. Very difficult to upscale a budget brand to a luxury brand.

If I was in charge of this division, I would create a modern line with a 25.5 scale because of the fret access and load it with active pickups. Give it a reverse hockey headstock, ebony board, and shredder profile. Pretty much make it a competitor to ESP, Schecter, Jackson, and such. Like an American Kramer.
@styrenebuilds6851
@styrenebuilds6851 3 месяца назад
That would be a deal breaker for me.
@CompanyGrip

That’s not too dissimilar from the 1990 USA release, with the active pickups and hockey headstock. Don’t have ebony and a 25.5 scale, but interesting idea. I do have an SG-Z that has Ebony and a 25.5 scale though, and I do quite enjoy it!
