I first thought that the green, tan or black handle would be best, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that all of those colors would "hide" in the undergrowth if I misplaced it or set it down and forgot about it. I ordered the survival orange-handled version with the tan blade. Can't wait for it to arrive.
I just ordered the coyote tan blade with the black contoured G10 grips featured at the 12:00 minute mark of this video. What a gorgeous knife. I can't wait to get it.
Just watched some videos of James Gibson. He's a brilliant man & very down to earth. I'm about to be a dedicated Esee customer. Especially of Gibsons designs.
the Carabiner hole is so that rescue climbers don’t drop the knife on the victim that they’re trying to save, rather than cut. They don’t like when you drop knives on the patients while trying to save them usually. That’s one big lanyard hole.
Is there always music in the background and I'm only just noticing it? Not a fan of the music playing. It's too much noise while trying to hear what hes saying.
I have been wanting a #3 for awhile now as my first esee for edc purposes but always come up short on $$$ guess it just wasn't meant to be . Love these new designs and your presentation.
Hi bud can you please let me know if the pocket clip can be rotated 90 degrees so it can be fitted to your belt removing the knife from side angle instead of vertically? Thank you and again BRILLIANT video as usual.
I am looking to buy my first ESSE. I am a big game hunter and hunt animals large as bear. Could you recommend a blade length suitable for skinning and gutting big game?
I didn't mind so much that the handles scales on my esee 5 were flat but the edges were square and blocky feeling so I rounded the edges with a belt sander. They probably still don't feel as nice as the new handles but it helped in my opinion.
That xancudo looks like the knife for me except for that “garish” handle color. Thanks for that word by the way, I was trying to describe the hideousness of it but it was at the tip of my tongue.
Thanks David. I love the ESEE 6 as well, except for the flat handle scales and rust. lol I'll check out putting the scales on my 6 and if I can't then I'll grab another 6 somewhere down the road.
I love ESEE knives but I sure wish they'd get those upgrades steels out into the other models, too. S35VN is good, not one of my favorites but acceptable, but I wish they'd do some CPM-3V/4V. Hell, I'd even be glad to get an Izula II & an ESEE 6 in S35VN.
Those knives are nice, but I was looking for a survival knife and chose other brands and have the Ka-Bar, Schrade, and Gerber brands as a primary, and backup knife. I like the Gerber folding knives as a backup and the others as primary tools. The Esee brand knives are probably nice, but as I have more knives than I will ever need they are all I want now. The Esee 6 would be the only knife I would consider buying if I was without one and looking for a survival knife.
I suggest that you make all of your handles in this zebra colored handle configuration and in solid colors because most people will probably like the solid colors I'm willing to bet.
Hello David, thank you for sharing this great review of the new Esee knives. As you know, Esee is a superb vendor. All the best to you. Please keep up those great reviews. 🤗
i really wish i could find the contoured handles in micarta. i like g10 and all but i like micarta so much more. g10 grips better in dry and micarta in wet. idk about yall but id rather have that extra grip when my hands are wet from whatever it may be. just feels like thatd be a more dire situation
The new handles look nice, and I'm glad they are starting to offer things in S35VN. Now if ESEE would only get rid of the stupid forward finger choils and reduce the blade stock thickness.
What oil would you recommend we use to prevent rusting? And how would we apply it? I use this as my running knife and the blade and logo get so rusty! Thanks for the great videos?
this guy is better than the blade hq guys. i couldn't figure out why... then I finally hit me. this guy talks about the knives and holds up the knives for the camera the whole time he talks about it. the blade hq guys arent as good because they don't really feature the knives. they just talk about dumb opinions and really awkward jokes.
Except for the scales. I replaced the slippery plastic crap scales for my BK’s with micarta then realized I just paid the same price as an ESEE. Yeah, I think the price difference is in the scales, mass produced plastic scales are a heck of a lot cheaper than micarta.
I wish I would of bought the Esee 5 instead of the BK2. The BK2 sheath sucks also. I am out $115 after my mods and the sheath is still the original and it dulls the knife as you pull it in and out. FRN sheath is a horrible idea.
Speaking as an avid climber, there's really no reason you would need a knife except if you're on some big wall expedition. In which case, you're likely hauling a 200+ pound bag containing all of your gear, portaledge, food, water, etc and storing a knife would be just like storing anything else you might have with you. It just doesn't seem necessary whatsoever to have a knife readily accessible on your person at all when climbing.
We do a lot of high angle/rope access/swiftwater training..not for big wall climbing as much as those applications. Jeff and Mike were both in telecom for years and they always needed to attach a safety lanyard.
It’s a shame that people nagged esee until they offered some nonsense super steel on their utilitarian working knives. Ill be surprised if they do well after the first wave of nerds scoop them up. It’s like offering a fork lift with a turbo hayabusa engine. Both things are cool and useful but not together.
@@lbdeuce "It’s a shame that people nagged esee until they offered some nonsense super steel on their utilitarian working knives" Jeff has said as much. It may be a one time run for the 3. I am looking forward to the S35VN Izula.
It makes sence in the smaller knives. As long as they still offer 1095 options on the big working knives I don’t care to be honest. What they need to do is not powder coat them and offer them in some kind of titanium or DLC options.
Hola, tus cuchillos están maravillosos, como es que logras ponerle a la hija el color naranja o verde? ... te felicito tu trabajo esta excelente. Desde ahora cuenta con mi like y suscripción a tu canal. Saludos
Lmao. Give me a break. I've got a rat 7 in 1095 that's spent nearly a decade in the bush covered in crap. Blade Coating is long gone on most of it and Not a sign of rust in sight.
@@evictioncarpentry2628 Personal preference. I know that a light coating of oil will take care of the blade and if I am only cutting cord, processing wood, etc... then 1095 is all well and good. Tough steel, holds an edge, not brittle - I get all of that. I don't want an oil covered blade doing my food prep though. It also depends on where your blade is stored and what the environmental conditions of your area are. If I was blessed with living in the desert southwest then rust is mostly someone else's problem. I live in a high humidity, and rainy location. Thus - rust. Especially with the knife externally mounted on my pack. You made your choice and that is cool. I just have a different preference.
@@gorillahd9247 You can put a patina on carbon steel and it won't rust, cooking oils will also protect it. ESEE knives were developed and used in the rain forrest, I doubt you get more rain and humidity than a rain forest. Every hard use pocket knife in S30 or S35 that has crossed my sharpening bench has tons of little micro chips in the blade, this will only be exaggerated in a well used bush craft knife. Stainless bush craft knives never do the job as well, the trade offs are just too steep. If you want a stainless bush craft knife then get one, it's your money and your gear. Just stop acting like there is a reason or real need for them.
I wish ESEE would do an informative video on their reluctance to use stainless steels! Just about everyone speculates about it, but I've yet to see something official/factual about their reasoning. Modern stainless steels have great performance, and huge advantages in terms of rust. A 1095 blade after 6 months in a leaky shed is not a pretty object!
A friend ordered an ESEE knife from another site and he was highly dissappointment due to the knife they sent him had a very noticeable knick on top of the flat part of the knife. It looked like the knick happened during cnc cutting process of the blade and it was never corrected or removed. For the price of these knives you would of expect better quality control.
I bought one of those contured handle knifes I don't I like the handle it doesn't lock in your hand I have medium size hand s and it's not comfortable.
I just want esee 6 without the "finger slot just behind the blade" Overall lenght would be shorter but the cutting part of the blade would remain the same Now youre probably screaming that get the esee 6 hm. Yes looks good but im afraid ill cut myself with it because it doesnt have a "handstop". Yes i dont know the correct terms I mean esee 5 would be ideal lenght and size for me but the blade thickness is just too much.
