Porsche is notoriously famous for under promising and over delivering when it comes to performance data for their cars...look at pretty much any generation of 911 turbo S, on paper it would just look good enough but on real life drag race it would eat anything with a combustion engine alive.
Lol.. I know I’m totally biased.. I saw the two side by side and laughed that the Porsche just looks like another Porsche.. meh.. aesthetics is the least interesting comparison of these two
@@k.3ren Tesla does exactly the opposite. Overpromising, underdelivering. They make 1000 updates over years to get the car where they promised it would be
@Aminat Salikhova does Tesla have good quality? -nope. Does Tesla have small panelgaps? - nope. Do Teslas perform like they state? - nope. Is Tesla better looking than the taycan? - nope. Is the taycan quicker than the Tesla? - most definitely I could go on and on.... And dude trust me nobody gives a fuck about some stupid mini games that don’t even work properly.
@@k.3ren Who cares about mini games, those mini games come standard in a MINIVAN, I don’t know what he trying to prove, I mean, all tesla fanboys are below the age of 12.
I hope they bring a 2-door / coupe version of the mission E. Especially the headlight side scoop is kinda ruined in the taycan (primarily probably because of the plastic/black graphic accent, but also the transition into the front lip/bumper. It looks so sick on the M-E
@That's What She Said stop fanboying over Tesla. Poor quality cars with paint lifting up and flimsy interior. Props to them for pushing the EV market though. Still Porsche > Tesla
For literally twice the price, and not even vs Model S Plaid 🤷♂️ Model S Plaid will take the Taycan to pound town, for a little more than half the price of the Taycan.
@@thedrooch429 sure, when the plaid gets here, until then my comment remains. My username should show that I’m a huge Tesla fan, but I still think Porsche did a fantastic job and I want to give them credit for it. When plaid gets here, I’ll excitedly wait for another car to come and see if they can outperform it. :-)
Brooks you legend! Although I like the Porsche, the big price difference shows how good the Tesla is. I'm looking forward to seeing the Model S Plaid compete with the Taycan when it comes out!
Bad build quality and a car is to be driven not drag raced, the porsche takes the crown in those two aspects, and you pay the brand name aswell. Tesla is good for the us, where is all straights, but in europe, porsche is the nicer car
@@bernardo9202Seeing the numbers and performance of the Plaid Track now it is obvious it would thrash the Taycan on the twisties and the straights. No comparison.
Loving all the excuses from the Tesla fanboys. Keep 'm coming kiddo's. The Model S has had numerous updates over the years including 1 design update. First you lot claim Tesla can't be beat because they're so far ahead of everyone. Now, suddenly, their tech is 8 years behind? Which is it?
Love the Taycan so much. Such a gorgeous car. Built superb and the thing is it just so happens to be good in a straight line but it comes alive in the twisties. Tesla’s are nice cars but as Brooks comments suggest at the end, they are essentially very good commuter cars. I just wish they were built better and had better after sales
@kim Jong-unsub as I've said, it doesn't really matter to the final time, so... Most of times he reacts on green, sometimes on final decs of yellow; that's how this works. Or instead you could do it by yourself
@kim Jong-unsub Nice to see a humble pro drag racer here giving all the secret insider tips. Any more nuggets of wisdom? Here is a free one from me. If you want to stop at a red light you just to slam the breaks when the light turns yellow.
Never come close to the power of electric motors? There are gasoline engines with well over 2000 hp, the absolute majority of gasoline engines in sporty cars are more powerful than electric engines. Electric engines suck past 100-120 mph anyway
I was expecting more. I guess they will all come later after they finish playing Candy Crush and pressing the fart button in their car which is light years ahead. Lol
@@3abo0od96, the real EV enthusiasts got here first but don’t worry, the Tesla cult will come later and make their presence known. However some of the Tesla cult members made enough off Tesla stock to buy a Taycan, so that’s a like not a dislike. Lol
@@matteocomelli9587 , you are so wrong. There IS a Tesla cult, and they DO NOT want every EV to survive. And there are also Tesla owners who are not cult members. Most of the Cult members are also TSLA shareholders who don’t care one bit about anything but trying to get rich off hype, so they go around saying how Tesla is light years ahead, all others are doomed, bla bla bla. But I do agree any Tesla cult member who disliked the video is should be subjected to pain, but this video showing Tesla is not ahead of anything is enough. I cheer for all EVs but I don’t cheer for Tesla cult members who try to claim Elon discovered the electron. Tesla is only here because someone crazier than Elon Musk had an idea to put a $40,000 battery in a $20,000 kit car. And Tesla is only still alive because Elon bought it from the founders and kept it alive, by a thread. I don’t think anyone hates Tesla, they just hate Tesla cult members. And everyone here knows they do exist and are detrimental to the EV moment.
Well this statement goes both ways, Porsche is building cars since 1931. It was also meant to be a sports car, while Tesla somewhat destroyed the competition in acceleration by accident for years in the price class. Also if this would be my money, 50k more for a smaller car which can beat me in a drag race by just a few seconds... No, sorry I pass. Porsche is ofc still a beauty. Can't argue there.
@@M8KES I don't understand what this has to do with my comment. Again: 50k+ cheaper and almost as fast, 10 years of automobile development vs 100 years, sports car vs limousine, additional point model s was released years before the Porsche. I never said that I do not like Porsche. I was just saying that your comment does not make sense to me. 10 years of electric car manufacturing Vs 100 years with access to the best electric motor manufacturers there is (schoefler and Bosch) around the corner the result is good but I would have expected even more. Let's see if Tesla actually delivers the Roadstar and then let's see what Porsches awnser will be. I am excited for it.
With more range, I think the Model S might actually win the race in the long run, but only by default in that case. :) Will be interested to see Porsche's next EV go up against the Model S Plaid and Roadster.
actually, with the Model S having more range the tesla can do it all day, And wait till the tesla plaid+ it will be faster than the 911 turbo s and the taycan. And cheaper than the taycan
@@yoo.daniell thats not what he meant, the Taycan performs significantly better than the Model S at lower battery capacity. Shmees video showed his Taycan at 30% keeping up with a Model S Raven at 80%.
@BTICronox The current Model S only regens that much!? The Model 3 is wayyyyy more. I imagine the 2021 Model S should match the 3. :) In that case, it's a game of power usage/aero as the S is more efficient but the Taycan regens more.
@BTICronox Oh really? It 'feels' like a lot more. My own personal gripe with using a brake pedal is that it can make the brake pedal feel 'weird', I'd much rather have friction brakes be their own system and not have it mesh with regen. :) One pedal driving is also good for handling in my experience. Ideally, you should always be braking or accelerating, never coasting in a corner. That helps you do that.
the exteriour is def. better. interiour is ure taste. I like more of a modern/minimalistic design. but teslas design is waaay too minimalistic. and porsche in the other side. way too much in the cockpit. but as I said. its like a cockmit and many people like it.
Hello Brooks.I have tested the Taycan from 4S to Turbo S for several weeks on Autobahn. You have Autopilot! I works identical like in my Tesla P85D. But... Porsche , it is an option. You have adaptive cruise control as standard but you have to order lane keep assistant and lane change as an extra. Than you have a perfect working auto pilot in the Taycan.I did a 1000 km challenge in 9.25 h and used it often. No phantom breaking at all. But still have my Tesla and ordered a 4S because of the price. I don’t think the Turbo S is worth double of the price. By the way... Even in the Taycan you can put the Autopilot to a higher speed than the actual speed limit, but you have to find it first in the sub.menues... Regards, Andy from Munich
Tesla doesn’t even sell that car anymore, they have a much faster car now. Porsche spent well over a billion dollars and years on that sedan for half a car length or more (0.2-0.4 seconds tops). Jay Leno (big guy) just set a 9.247 1/4 mile with the Plaid (Porsche record as seen in video isn’t better than 10.3seconds) . Or roughly over a whole second faster than the Porsche and it took them just over a year to release, not to mention it’s almost 100,000 dollars cheaper and weighs less with more cargo capacity (Porsche 5,121pounds,42.8 Plaid, 4,766 pounds 60.2ft cargo). The truth is in the facts sorry Porsche guys.
@@alphaomega9650 What do you mean Tesla doesn’t sell that car anymore? They just released the Model S Plaid less than a week ago. And yes I agree with you, Porsche cannot keep up with Tesla‘s new tech, ntm the Plaid edition has 1020 horsepower!!
Funny how almost all channels only talk about acceleration capability. The Taycan is as expensive as it is because it is set up for track use. I’m European too.
@@tbn22 yes..Tesla dominated other cars over the years on the 1/4 and Porsche now beats them at that and they say well it's a 100k more for only a car length..but no mention of any other performance metric that you get with the higher price tag..if you extend the race to half mile the gap would be so significant you wouldn't think it fair to run them in the same category...also better braking...turning etc etc
All respect to porche, fantastic company full of rich history. But if we are talking modern electric cars, considering the price difference, Just wait for the Plaid+.
As an auto enthusiast all my life. Since the day it was launched, I always knew the Porsche Taycan would win all performance criteria against anyone. Those Tesla fanboys were trying to shut down the Taycan when none of them had driven or tested the car yet. That is how distorted their reality is.
Hey James. I’m not a Tesla fanboy. In fact I even own a cayman. But I just wanted to let you know that you sound like a total douche. Just making sure your reality isn’t distorted.
Could also be due to different cameras/mics and their placement. The Teslas was closer to the windshield. Not defending it, just saying it's not a fair comparison here. But hands down the Porsche is better built.
Raven with it's 3 motors will be faster. The VW group will also bring out a 3 engine Taycan in time, first to get the 3 engined arrangement is an Audi RS E Tron GT.
@@briananthony4044 Porsche's already testing Quad motor tech (on on each wheel). They been doing so for a while now. It's been at least one year, maybe two?...Doubt Audi would get something first, unless Porsche wasn't ready for it, or felt they had something better like the 4 Motor deal (which seems like overkill to me, if not heavier, but is supposed to be more responsive than two motor set up), especially for a sporting sedan/Porsche territory like the Taycan.
I wouldn't count on a Plaid Model S next year, if I were you. Elon initially said the new Roadster would be available this year, but later changed the date. And I think buy the time Tesla release the Model S Plaid, Porsche will have a much faster version of the Taycan.
@@TheTmat007 he pushed the roadster because there was more demand for the cybertruck. It was a better « businness » decision to make. Its the gear. No matter how strong Lance Armstrong's legs are, he could not out run an amateur on a well prepped multi-speed bike while he is on a low geared single speed bike.
The launch in the Taycan is absolutely brutal. .7 seconds 0-20 mph in a vehicle that heavy on regular tires is pretty incredible. Hopefully Musk is right that the Plaid Model S will get deep into the 9s if not even into the 8s. I just don’t know how he is going to shave off almost 1.5 seconds from where the Model S is now. I can’t wait to see him try though.
Could you guys instead of repeating idiotic nonsense just check some basic facts? See how a much more powerfull, lighter Rimac is doing on a dragstrip to know what you are saying is idiotic. Model S will NEVER be a low 9s car. High 8s... ROTFLMAO ...the Americans
@@yobooboy5591 Musk has sold the Model S Plaid as an 8 second car. Brooks preordered one based on Musk’s claim. If that car isn’t an 8 second quarter mile car then Tesla will have some explaining to do.
@@yobooboy5591 why wouldn’t an 1100+ AWD Model S be able to do a sub-nine second quarter mile, especially when they are advertising that it will? Why is that so preposterous to believe?
Not sure if it's really the way forward or just an advantage in a couple of edge-cases. I would argue that less mechanical complexity is always better for reliability, especially with the high torque of electric motors. I mean the Model S is still the more energy efficient car, even at high speeds, despite the single speed gearbox.
@@RufftaMan yeah 100% agree with complexity and 1 more thing to go wrong but maybe the second gear kicking in at a higher speed little less stress on components maybe a option for an addon later. Would be cool
The Porsche is able to race on the Nürburgring without any problems. The Tesla can't do that for a long time. It's just not build for it while the Porsche is. That's the difference. I think the tesla was getting to hot or something like that.
Plaid will solve that. The Model S today is definitely not a track car, it's a family sedan. The Taycan is great though, but wouldn't call it a direct competitor.
Here for the Tesla fanboi comments. “Wait for the Plaid bruh.” “Wait for the Roadster then see what happens.” “Tesla wasn’t trying.” “Oh yeah, well I heard Elon is creating another OTA update that’ll give the Tesla warp speed hyper deluxe SuperDrive.” More excuses ensue..... Womp womp. The Model S got mopped by a heavier, less powerful electric car. This is what happens when a more experienced automaker makes a performance EV.
chill dude xD stop hating and love all EVs lol the thing is that the tesla is for the money the waaay better car; your last sentence should be like this: The Model S got mopped by a pretty much same weight, same power (with overboost on the Taycan and same torque) >double the price< electric car. And yes Plaid Model S will be crazy :) no hate or fanboy just facts. I dont get why people even hate on cars lol...can you even afford one of these?
@@Basta147 it’s not facts at all is it... the Tesla has more power. It is lighter. And the main reason they have such a price gap is because Tesla’s are built like shit with some of the worst panel gaps and alignment I’ve ever seen.. where as the Porsche is sleek and well built with no cost cutting corners and is still faster than the Tesla despite less power & torque while being heavier. Not to mention the Porsche is a much better handling car also according to most journalists.
Did you try Taycan "autopilot" system? Porsche is drivers car, they don't want self driving(autopilot) car, you can do that in much cheaper cars. Why you need Taycan for that? I think Porsche have ACC and Traffic assist.
Brooks what do you think the numbers will be that the upcoming Plaid Model S will put down? And do you think the over-the-air software updates will give the Plaid continual improvements even after you buy it to make it even faster with quicker acceleration number then when you first bring it home brand new? I pointed it out and they fixed it immediately before completing delivery. Compare that to my P100D delivery where the SA went AWOL, the driver's side mirror didn't fold out properly and there were scratches in the paint.
This is great news! It keeps Tesla on their toes and prevents them from being stagnant. While Porsche shows they can produce an amazing electric car on par with Tesla! I see this as an absolute win!
Porsche is always super conservative on their specs...not to mention, their EVs don't suffer from reduced performance as the battery level decreases, like the Tesla.

Both cars are remarkable, although in the first race the Porsche launched a little before Tesla. Also the soon to be released new Tesla is considerably faster than the current model S, reported 0-60 at 2.0 flat and 9-seconds in the quarter mile. It would be interesting to see a re-match with the newer version Tesla. Price difference of 3-5 times the Tesla is also a factor to consider. Good video though. Thanks.
Not sure they ended anything. Yes, they took the speed crown, which is great. That was the only option though, can you imagine if they had released a car that was twice the price but slower? The Taycan is a worthy competitor but they are not really in the same class, nor attract the same buyer. Due to it's price, the Taycan will always be a niche car, just like the high spec 911s. Amazing cars but only a small percentage of people can afford a $200k car. I also think the Plaid version of the Model S will leapfrog the Taycan in performance, at least until Porsche comes out with something even faster. Lucid will also be coming with a quick car. Competition is good for all of us.
Sure, it can be a Taycan in a drag… Terrible track car though. Everybody at Porsche knows that horsepower is not the main key for performance. It’s the whole car together
