Max Pass was the best!

Yes Max Pass was the best… because they also had a free option at the kiosks. You had to walk more for it but it was a free option. It made you feel like you were getting a deal not being ripped off.

We got to use that on our Disneyland vacation in 2019. Best system ever. On one of our days, we took an afternoon break in the hotel. I kept adding fast passes every 90 minutes. We went to dinner then DCA and had fast passes lined up for Guardians, Soarin, Toy Story Mania, Incredicoaster, Radiator Springs (at dusk), and the World of Color reserved area. May have forever ruined Disney World for us. 😂 Well, I’d still go back for Epcot.

Meh. I remember two hour lines in the hot August sun to ride Splash Mtn or Big Thunder. Longer lines for Raiders or Space Mtn. You couldn't walk anywhere without having to squeeze past all the lines outside the rides. Fastpass in the 90s was a lifesaver!!

That's great for the people that can afford it but sucks for everyone else. I already posted somewhere in this thread that I'd gladly pay it, and I explained why, and it's not because I'm wealthy.

Dude! Supply and demand. Ever heard of it? Disney parks are sooooooooooooooooo popular right now. I hate it but I fully understand it. Genie is a fail. Because it’s so affordable, everyone can still afford it. Therefore, most are getting it. Therefore making standby a damn nightmare. Disney needs more attractions. They need more parks. There are not enough of them in the USA. THATS the main problem

I haven't used Genie+. That's why I'm here. I'm trying to understand it. Your comment indicates Genie+ users have a long wait in the glorified standby line. Yet the regular standby line is taking much longer. Others have indicated how Maxpass was so much better for allowing multiple uses at an attraction, but also presumably because it was faster. The only way I can make sense of this with both lines, Genie+ and standby, both being slower is if more people are fighting for the same attraction compared to before Genie+. One commenter indicated the Genie+ reservations run out by noon, which is consistent with Disney's disclaimer shown in the video that Genie+ users will only get 2 or 3 reservations on average if they start early. Along with slower lines this also suggests there are far more people competing for the attractions. It's also possible that Disney is severely limiting those reservations thereby causing them to run out so quickly, but then that wouldn't explain the lines being slower. The reservation system also suggests Disney is trying to maximize park attendance at the upper most level guests will tolerate, and from all the complaining, it sounds like they've just about dialed that in. They've still got to find that sweet spot though, where Genie+ works well enough that people feel like they can't live without it, and that will be when the standby line doesn't move at all. Then those that refuse to pay for Genie+ will stop attending, and Disney can increase the cost of the Genie+ as it get s ever more crowded and useless which will cause guests to welcome a new, more expensive option. Disney has very smart people trying to figure this out for maximum profit, user experience is secondary. And as long as the demand is there, as long as they can keep pushing the upper tolerance level of their guests, they will continue to do so. It makes perfect business sense. I could easily be done with Disney, and if it were my choice, I'd cancel my streaming service and never visit another park. That's not out of spite, well okay maybe cancelling the streaming service would be, but it would be more that they've destroyed the brand in my mind. I no longer get all tingling when I imagine being in one of their parks, I feel angry, frustrated, and just simply irritated with all their policies and rules. Like why can't I have a cane-stool to sit on when standing in line? But the decision to cancel Disney is not up to me. However, from what I'm hearing, I think one more vacation if we're limited to 2 or 3 fast passes per day will put my wife over the edge. So maybe, just maybe, this might be a good thing!

They are practically the same. Max Pass would only be beneficial if they brought back Fast Pass. Max Pass was simply convenience to not walking to the ride and station. There was also not pressure for the cast members as they have now since Genie Plus is almost guaranteed immediate ride access where Max Pass was FASTER access, but it was more like cutting the time in half and not sacrificing a ton of stand by.

@@Larryandhisbelts But also you were able to purchase Max Pass for the year for like $125. Whereas with Genie+ you have to pay per day with no option for annual purchase.

At least with Max pass you can ride the same ride multiple times. Bring back max pass!!

Honestly, I think that's where they are going. Admission will only get you in and we would have to pay per ride. They're going to oversell lightening lane to the point where they can no longer allow standby. I actually witnessed this briefly at big thunder that the lightning lane was so long, they were not allowing standby. Albeit it was just that one time but imagine that? You can't ride an attraction because you didn't pay extra for it? Disney would love nothing more.

Maybe Elon can buy them out.

There's too much demand to put guest experiences first unless they want to run a lottery, and that's a sure way to piss people off. So the only option is to increase revenue at the loss of demand until the two come into equilibrium. Yeah, it may destroy the brand, but it won't drive everyone away. Yeah it sucks, but that's the reality of it. Or they could build more parks, increasing the supply to meet the demand, but they'll always be more driven by profits.

Thanks...just the post I needed to convince my wife that we should give up on Disney. No need for us to suffer like you did and then decide we're done. I have not read anything other than Disney's own propaganda that has given me any hope it can still be a good experience.

Was this in Disneyland or Disney World. I'm desperate for someone with experience in Disneyland. For Disneyland, I've read you can get reservations once your in the park, even before rope drop. That could mean as soon as you go through the turnstile, but that doesn't sound quite fair. So do they have an official time set, like 15 minutes, or 30 minutes before rope drop for starting to make reservations? I've read that for your first reservation you might see a decent return time for a ride, like 9:30, but by the time you've booked it, the app actually returns some other time, one that may be much later in the day. Is this true? Did you experience this? How many reservations where you able to get? If it was more than two or three, do you think that might have been because the park wasn't crowded?

@@lddcavalry Judging by the crowds at the park, none of the changes are keeping people away. People need to stop treating it like a lifestyle, wanting a corporation to validate them. Just go have fun at the Happiest Place on Earth. It's Disney. Failure is not an option

I thought they were basically the same thing, except we now have to pay for individual lightening lanes on Radiator Springs, Rise of the Resistance, & Web Slingers.
