The new Alpha feature - Elementor Loop Filter, has just dropped in v1.35 of Elementor Pro. Here's my first look and initial impressions of this much-requested feature.
Does the Elementor Loop Filter rival other tools like Gridbuilder WP or FacetWP?
Frankly, no. But, it's not really intended to.

It doesn´t work on an archive page - if used, the results don´t make any sense and it shows articles in every language (using Polylang for multilanguage). The only possible shortcut is not showing archive titles and avoid archives completely. Still no arranging by subcategories. What would be a solution if I have 4 category levels and about 40 categories? Please don't suggest creating a menu and a separate page for each category 😅.

is this something that could eliminate a plugin like Essential Grid if I'm trying to reduce plugin usage?

That's a nice addition to the loop builder, but what I would like to see is custom sorting of posts in the builder, for example, rather than sort by....date, title, random etc, it would be good to be able to set the order yourself using a custom field to create your own heirachy. I tried to build out a 'Out Team' section using custom posts and I wanted it to put the senior team members first, followed by the junior members, no matter when the staff data was updated, but I couldn't. I think this could be another handy addition...

So, I think this can be done. With just the regular posts widget, I’ve chosen to sort by Order, then you just use order numbers in a post (which is found on the sidebar on the post editor screen

I was waiting for the filter function for soooooo long. Once I had bought JetFilters, but it is awful slow. Then I bought wp Gridbuilder. This is very fast and has a complex filter functionality. The filtering of elementor is very basic and I'm afraid it will take a long time until it would work more complex. At least you can use it for a simple category filter in the near future. Not much, but better than nothing.

Obviously super limited right now but that's cuz its new. They'll certainly add more functionality. The big question is: will they add enough functionality to make this a legit alternative to JetEngine, DCE, Toolset, etc? Chances are they'll get 70% of the way there and think its good enough for most people (it probably will be). But we'll have another incomplete solution that we can't use and end up using 3rd party plugins anyway, making this new feature something we waited for and got little to no value from.

I think Elementor is doing a great job when you take a look at the last couple of months. I'm an early adaptor of Elementor and using it since 2018. But still things are 'buggy'. Everytime I run into minor issues. I therefore decided to give Breakdance a try. Breakdance fills the gap between Elementor and Bricks. A flawless workflow. Would be great Paul is you can create an in-depth video of Breakdance Builder.
