RE BLUETOOTH... sorry if we didn't make this clearer in the video... your phone can tether to the Micro Mustang Plus via bluetooth - this enables you to stream music from your phone to the Micro Mustang AND it enables you to use the app to control the settings on the Micro Mustang Plus. You CANNOT use bluetooth headphones with Micro Mustang Plus - you must use wired headphones. In this video, when you hear us play along to music, we are streaming that music from the phone to the Micro Mustang Plus. Questions re whether you can use 3rd party bluetooth footswitches & USB loopers will have to wait for another day, as I don't know for sure right now!
To Andertons: Could one of your sales team possibly contact Boss and clarify what is happening with the Katana Go? A lot of people have mentioned it in this thread but no-one seems to know what the position is. Thank you.
I spent 2 months in hospital this year and my fender mustang micro 1 kept me sane as i took one of my guitars in and just had my headphones etc. one of these are well worth having. i think i will update mine to the new 2024 version for the addition of the screen and access to the app.
These have quickly become my favorite piece of guitar gear. I have expensive amps, modelers and software, but these things have me playing hours more each day because it takes two seconds to get going and I can slap on any pedal model with an app in a few seconds
I've been saying for years now, "man, if I had THIS as a kid..." All the cool gear, DAWs, stuff like this, video lessons all over, etc...makes me wonder where I'd be now!! I remember scrounging around on TalkBass and Harmony Central (IYKYK) for tabs when I was starting out!! lol
@@mhz9003yeah surely the hardware is exactly the same and with an update the old one could use the app. But fender need to sell these new models! Oh well, still love my original one. I only use it for practicing and quite like the simplicity of it. In some way I don’t want to be distracted by an app and loads of effects options. However, the new model looks like it could be used for recording quite legitimately. Amazing how far technology has come!
My 2nd (enthused) comment on this: As an owner of the ToneMaster Pro, I‘m very pleased to see this tiny unit doing a lot of similar stuff, but I‘m even more delighted to see (or rather, hear) that Fender have apparently not made the mistake they did with the presets on the ToneMaster Pro not having realistic hi-cut filters engaged right from the factory. Instead, the TMP gives you full-range cab sounds in the presets, and you MUST figure out how much hi cut to apply to every single one, else everything is too fizzy. (Similar remark applies for the lows, by the way.) With this new product, they seem to have created the presets with hi-cut applied as one would expect from each paired cabinet. Bravo!
I had them all, Fender Mustang Micro, Boss Waza, Nux. And i always came back to the Mustang Micro because it´s just one thing -> simple to use! Its the best purchase of guitar gear i did for quick and easy play along with backing tracks. Will buy this one blind. Also the Interface is much clearer, you see what you do like a normal FX chain. Thanks Fender!
They are very easy to use. I do use my waza air the most I think because it is actually wireless, but of course it’s much more exxy and you can’t choose whatever headphones you like, but there’s no two ways around the fact the boss mobile apps are pretty horrible to use!
@@Bobby-wn5yr didnt make that clear yes, the app of boss/nux was horrible (for me at least). thats why i went back to "analog" mustang. but now with the mustang plus the UI looks great.
The Katana Go’s choice to have no controls outside of the app instantly makes this 100x more usable. I can’t imagine any reason people would choose that over this
I didn’t even finish watching the video, before I ordered one online. I’m very happy that it has an accompanying app. Bluetooth connectivity is a must, because I am a totally blind person. Fenders previous model, did not have an app. This is a nice step in accessibility.
@@cliffdykes1171 voiceover has been working for me. I have a fender mustang GT 40. I have been using it for several years, and the app is 100% navigable. Once the Mustang micro plus arrives, I will give an update about compatibility and ease of use, with voiceover. Only if you are interested, of course.
The first mustang micro is an amazing device. The only thing it was missing was having a tuner on it. This is an instant buy for any guitar players. It's one the the best pieces of gear you can get.
As an owner of the ToneMaster Pro, I think I‘m gonna have to get one of these, too, despite loving my Boss Katana Go for the purpose. But I‘ve grown accustomed to the Fender TMP app, which is beautifully done, and I‘m mostly a „clean“ guy anyhow. By the by: I wish the battery life was closer to 5 hours (like the Katana Go) than 4, making it more suitable for potential live use. Yes - these little buggers can also be used live. Just plug the Mustang into the output of your (battery-operated) tuner on the floor and use an adapter cable from there. You can even go straight from there into your PA speaker, such as an Everse 8 or 12 (battery-powered), and you‘re good to go as long as you don‘t need to change presets or settings in the middle of songs. The Katana Go (currently not available?) is better in that respect, since you can use the Boss wireless footswitch for switching presets.
All these things make me SMH for all those years starting in the late 80's where, as an apartment dweller, I was playing through a Rockman running through An ART SGE. :) Years and years of practically nothing new and now look at all these cool affordable tools. Amazing.
I have an original Scholtz Rockman, but Used an ART SGX (haven’t thought bout that in years) into a Mesa Stereo Power amp. Def Leppard recorded all the guitars on Hysteria with Rockmans. If someone made one of these Bluetooth (5.3 has almost zero latency), I’d buy one.
I think you're right. It's almost like you need some sort of hybrid of the two. Visually the pedals with appropriate colour schemes and detail will appeal to old school stomp fans but the vagueness of precise parameter settings could end up grating.
@@GarethBond-dh4ho Sure it is- just buy an adapter to adapt the 1/8th headphone jack to a 1/4 inch- then plug it into a cab box or a D.I. box- and then out to speakers. You could try going straight from the headphone out to an FRFR speaker- without using a DI or a cab box- sometimes that sounds fine, it depends on the cab sim they installed on it.
@@imacmadman22 I plug into Ultimate Ears Megaboom 1 bluetooth speaker because it has the 3.5 mm aux input. Mr. Lee said use bluetooth connection but that's not a good idea because of latency.
For anyone interested, I just got one and you can connect Bluetooth headphones using one of those airplane transmitting dongle things - as expected, the Bluetooth latency is terrible though. Not a Fender issue, just posting for anyone complaining that it doesn’t connect to Bluetooth headphones out of the box, there’s a good reason why!
I bought the older Mustang Micro last year while I was traveling abroad for practice. The amazing tones, beautiful app UI, intuitive usage, and Bluetooth connectivity was mind blowing and made it an easy choice to buy the Fender Mustang GTX100 amp for my home practice and eventually jamming with a friend. Bringing the same Fender Tone app used by the Mustang GTX to the Micro Plus is genius and I'll definitely be buying the new model if I travel again.
The massive improvement is getting rid of the coloured lights, 50 percent of men in the world suffer from some form of coloured blindness, all the pretty lights on the previous one meant jack to people like myself, kudos for getting that right on this iteration.
Pete! Lol... Some of us were lucky to get the Katana GO before it got cancelled for "production issues". While I enjoyed the Micro V1 ok, I gave my Micro to my family once I got the Katana GO and I use the GO Clean amp with OD/Boosts a lot (and skip the combo for home use). Now it looks like Micro Plus has way more clean amps than the Micro did and the GO does now, and the Plus cleans sound really good. Bonus for the BT phone app. Have to get one. BTW Fender got the swivel way better than BOSS, with the GO's weird half angle.
I just bought a NuX for my daughter to learn bass on, but after 'testing' it myself, i want another one like it. I'd definitely try this one if it's in the same price range
Iv'e been using the mustang micro for years, best purchase ever. Had a set of DJ Sony headphones, but recently got the Joyo over the ears on amazon. Crazy good for the price. Can't wait to try this new micro. Better than a Mustang amp-terrible bluetooth connection issues. Micro is flawless-however with the new built in tuner, I don't have to stream youtube to tune anymore lol
I really like this but what does become annoying is the lack of thought about the old kit, surely a small discount for trading in the previous model would be good for loyalty and for recycling.
Hey this looks like an improvement. Had the first one, but didn't love it. I do love that companies are catering more to the average consumer now more than just professionals.
They’re great when they work…mine cuts in and out all the time and you have to wiggle it to get any sound. I’ve heard of other people having the same complaints.
I have Mustang Micro, Nux MP-3, and Katana:GO. I find myself playing the Katana the most because each bank has 3 preset that I can toggle back and forth. The MP-3 comes with 7 presets cycle toggle switch which can be annoying when I have to cycle throgh them to find the sound I want to use on spot. Of course the Mustang is kinda collecting dust at this point. I'd probably get the Mustang Micro Plus, replacing the Mustang micro. It'd be better if I can hook up a wireless foot switch like the Katana does I think. Personally I use this kind of devices for practicing songs so bank switching is important to me. If you're just jamming along with backing track, any of those would be fine given that you're only using one sound IMHO.
The real benefit of this release is that Boss will have to pull their finger out with regard to getting a new version of the now defunct Katana Go out with a new hardware supplier. They wont want to let Fender steal to much of a march on them. It's perfect timing from Fender too as they can potentially scoop up all those who were going to get the Katana Go but were left high and dry by it's sudden production issues.
I already have the original Mustang Micro, which I love for great sound, simple controls, long battery life. I also have the Katana Go, which can sound spectacular, but you need the app a lot, but multiple mods, delays etc make it a tinkerers delight. And I like the app because it's easy to use with poor eyesight. The Micro Plus? Pretty sure it will sound epic, but that app is going to be a nightmare, like the Positive Grid one, with my poor vision. Will I buy one? Of course, because, er, reasons 😂 Price feels about right, but let's wait until the first firmware update is available.
So nice to see this plug-thing tested on my offset tele, sounds very good together. How about noise? Nice review, always so funny with you, thanks a lot.
I wanted to buy the Boss Katana Go device, but they apparently discontinued it just weeks after release for some reason. So I guess this might be the next best option.
For someone that has made his career as a business owner and a salesman this is not a sales job but Lee "I hate my job and I had to come to work today I'm out of here as soon as possibly".
I've been saying for a while that these headphone amps should really have an effects modify button (I like getting that "whoosh" sound when changing the delay time on my Mustang Micro, and if the app is unavailable for some reason, I still can turn an effect on and off and have a bit of control over it). Nice to see Fender actually added one! I also liked that they included an Orange amp, and it looks far more intuitive than the Katana Go (just looking at the buttons I pretty much know how I'd use the Mustang Micro Plus). The only item on my wish list still missing is having one of Fender's Jubilee models available. I wonder if, with the app and the screen being less limiting the colored lights, they'd be able to add more amps in an update. 🤔
Might I suggest, from experience, that you take in the headphones you’re going to be using if you want a proper test. Can make a huge difference to the sound. P.S. Went in months ago for a headphone amp… and bought a Spark Go instead
@@TheKSH991 I know, its just that there are other ways how to do this with speaker, magic of this is combo of options with compactibility (is that word? :D )
The Fender Mustang + will take all the sales lost for Boss as they discontinued the Katana Go, hardly anyone mentions this, they said is due to sourcing parts but it's also likely price increases, they were offering a lot for less than 120 euros, when they release their new version for sure it'll have a much higher price, I had the Nux mp3, sold it and got the Katana Go, much better sounding amps and better FXs
I recently bought 1st version of Mustang micro. Love it but this is so much more awesome Please take 29usd from me with the old mustang micro & give me new one 😢
I really like that all amps and pedals only have the controls that the original versions. I wish Boss would put a similar mode in the Katana Apps. I don't want all the low and highpass and eq adjustments everywhere 😅
I hope u guys can soon do another video, more about this fabulous headphone amp's Bluetooth abilities, ie, whether it is able to select presets via a Bluetooth Footswitch pedal, like the Hotone Ampero Control 4, etc...
@@MattSwain1I think there was some sort of chip shortage that limited production, but every one they released sold out before they could get the new version going.
I read somewhere that Katana hope to re-start production of the Go in November, with chips from a different supplier. I've also heard mention of a "new model", but I'm wondering how new it will be. Maybe they've used the downtime to make a few tweaks, but I can't imagine anything more than that.
Needs a lightning usb 3 camera adaptor to connect to my iPad Pro and iphone as it says device needs more power when I tried to connect to GarageBand. Despite 90% of default presets being not that great, I have easily created some great tones. Fender tone app better than Boss but limited to only one type of effect per patch.
I may buy one of these just to freak my bandmates out. All of that coming out of that tiny little thing- wth? And let's be honest- it sounds great. Not great for what it is, just great- as good as my headrush MX5 used to sound. Think about that- that was a 400 dollar modeler- this is a little match book thingy you plug straight into the guitar. Now part of it also is that we're hearing it played over immensely expensive monitors right now- Lee and Pete use some of the best monitors on the market to demo this stuff. It's not going to sound quiet as good over your 400-dollar FRFR speaker or 30-dollar headphones, but it would still sound good.
Considered the previous version but ended up with a tonex one instead. Ehich you can also plug in headphones, or add it to a pedal board or into the chain of a modeller..
New Fender Tone app upgrade appears to force horizontal as opposed to vertical screen view if using app on phone. It’s horrible. Hope it’s just a short-term issue and that they fix it quickly with an update
Great little gizmo. Late night or apartment practice or just fun noodling... Love it ! I love the Mocha Squier FSR Paranormal Offset Tele ....sadly it's not available in the U.S....and shipping from the U.K. would be too dear ! Gorgeous guitar...curious the weight ?
I think the NUX Mighty Plug Pro is much better than the Mustang Micro (original version). You have a lot more effects available and I think you can tailor the tone more effectively. I do like the dial volume knob on the Mustang - not sure why NUX went for the click button as it’s not as easy to adjust.
