YES, Chris, you made a great choice, they are a cichlid that is to too aggressive and is beautiful, I have 3 of them and I love the, you can have them with other cichlids, angels, larger tetras, medium sized catfish and lots of other stuff, just make sure you don't add anything to small, they are very curious and will probably start attacking any small fish
That is a beautiful hand-crafted stand and lid! I love seeing homemade wooden stands that looks so good. Shows that people really put a lot of effort into their tank. For a smaller schooling fish, I would suggest Black Neon tetras. I'm slightly partial to them because I have my own school, but they're less flashy than green neons so they would look better in a more plant-heavy and brown-toned tank. They have beautiful black and white iridescent stripes that stand out really well in dark waters! They're big enough to not get swallowed by your parrot cichlid as they can grow about 2 inches long.
Not to here to spoil but I have the same fish and she was literally staring at me during the reveal. You don't know how excited I was to see her Chris! Congrats! :)
My guess is a blood parrot cichlid, mostly due to the fact that Chris mentioned that he wanted hardy plants cause the fish may tear them and because of the thumbnail, I've kept blood parrots a good portion of my life and no matter how much you pixelate one I can still identify it due to it's shape and color.
Lol I never knew you had a tank this big I have a 65 gallon with a single betta ( I know it's very over stocked I'm working on myself) which I will send for ftr
I would say that is way too big for a betta maybe go with a nice school of neons nicely planted maybe some shrimp and ottos perfect and get a nice 10 gal for the betta
@@Mahakalsahai7890 nice my betta is currently living in a 5 gallon bucket cuase her ten gallon has my harlequin rasboras in it cuase my 20 gallon cracked sadness my betta has live in the bucket until I can get another tank for the harlequin rasboras
She's adorable!! Love it! I would AVOID ANGELFISH!! I bought two angel's as dither's for my bp's, bad bad bad idea. The angels literally fin nipped the bp's almost to death one night. Angels have the same aggression level as the bp's and don't tolerate the bp's pushing them around. Bp's are like toddlers with their tank mates. They will push them around and try to get them to stay where they want them. Congo tetra's might be a safer fish with her tantrums.
My birthday is coming up next Monday! I'm going to treat myself by going to the fish super store in my area. It's an hour drive but usually the things they have are worth it. Some nice plants, substrate, and hopefully some dario dario. Then I can watch FTR while I scape with my new goodies 🐱
I was gonna say you could've made that stand super snazzy by sanding and re staining and sealing it, but they hand crafted it so I can see why you'd keep it as is. 😌🌱
Axolotl, angelfish, or a big brain goldfish (that’s what I call an Oranda) Edit: If Chris would have gotten the tetras instead of the ciclid he should have named it tetrasic park.
My guess is several arowanas, that tank would be the perfect size for about five or so! And maybe some goldfish for feeder fish, I heard they are great for the ammonia levels in the tank
I feel you about the lights. I've been out of aquariums for a long time. Been keeping koi. Got my daughter a tank and I'd trade an old florescent for any of these Aqueon led lights. I have 2 lights doing what one did back in the day.
Awesome new tank and cute blood parrot! I have 3 of them in a 125g with a bunch of corys a bunch of rummy nose tetras, 8congo tetras, 12 Giant danios, a few types of rainbow fish, 4 roseline sharks, 1 high fin leopard pleco, 10 glolight tetras, 10 silver tip tetras. The tank is heavily planted but the parrots do dig a lot and move things around to there liking. Lol
I have a female blood parrot. She's a really fun and personable fish, though she was extremely shy at first. They're highly trainable, I taught mine to swim through a hoop. And if yours is truly a female, it will become apparent when she starts laying eggs every few months.
The blurred image looks like a blood parrot cichlid and the flower pots makes me think that you’re getting one. (Cuz they love hides) And ofc, you mentioned that you wanted it but a little hesitant abt it. I think it’s because BPCs are artificial fish? So my strong guess is BPC. Can be wrong.
Standing next to that tank, i can see my pond is 50 gallons. Good to know. Here in a month or 2, ill set up 3 more so each of my goldfish will have their own ponds in time. (2-3 inches atm, not an immediate concern)
Despite moving into a college dorm and going broke I am slowly being brainwashed from these videos to enter this hobby. Found myself doing a ton of research on random fish and I took a liking to Clown Killifish since I’m more likely to buy a 5 gallon than a 10 gallon and I want to do a dedicated tank and they are t i n y little guys! They’re colorful, and apparently just love to show off with an awesome African swamp climate to match. Only problem is that they breed pretty fast and have a habit of eating their young, so I’d probably need to get a back up tank prepared if I let them breed. And if I keep them in a smaller tank with a filter they might get stressed if it’s not low flow and I’m not sure how much bank I need to break on that yet. Alternatively I could go without a filter and just let plants do the work with floaters at the top but I’d need to do at least 50% water changes every 2-3 days which I’m not if I’d have the time for that. I can handle the live prey thing since they eat really small things and I helped my friend on multiple occasions take care of his snake (which was fed…you know.) Either way I’m obviously taking all the tips I can and filter or not I’m gonna do my best to keep live plants which I’m told are a bit more difficult but they seem to have a lot of benefits that I can’t ignore. But basically, I already have my dream tank set when I finish college!
Wow those plant pots were enough to convince me it wad some sort of chiclid. By the thumbnail, i guessed it was a parrot chiclid. I was actually correct 🤩.
I have a BP cichlid named daisy and she is the sweetest thing, and she is full of personality. She used to be super shy when I first got her 2 years ago, but she is now not shy at all. Although she hates my sister so much she will attack the other fish in the tank because she can't hurt her.
Love the vintage tank, Chris. And love that you rescued fish for it. If I'm ever able to get a bigger tank like this, I'd love to take some of those poor sad fish you see on Craigslist or Kijiji etc, and give them a good home. Hope Tamago comes out of her shell (get it? 🤣) over time, she seems like she'll be a great water puppy friend for you.
Chris if you want anubia... I have a plant as big as a soccer ball And all of the parts I broke of for other tanks had to cut it down every few months because this monster grows... Fast
Ha! I know I am late viewing this so I didn't post a guess. I did think parrot as soon as you mentioned the plants needing to be hardy and then put in the clay pots, those were my dead give away. She's wonderful! Will love seeing them all grow.
Me sat here with my 7ft aquarium knowing water change and gravel vac day is approaching, like dude I have to almost get in my tank to clean it or rearrange 😆 I do remember when I got my first 55 thinking it was so much work 😅 wait until your next upgrade 😆 This looks amazing BTW, brilliant composition ^_^
I'm watched this at the park on a nature walk/ supply shopping for hard scape, found an awesome rock and a branch that will make an awesome root scape maybe...idk but I got a ton of cleaning for the day now
Giant danios are a great dither i find. They’re a little more on the “aggressive” side only judging from keeping them. My danios are super active and stay near the top of the tank. I’m not sure angels will be the best as they have longer fins but I may be wrong
NO WAY! I also have a parrot cichlid! He's been with me for just around a year and does a little dance every time I come up to the tank, literally a water dog...
1.buenos Aires tetras( probably not coz they you know....eat plants) so some kind of gourami? Like a chocolate one? 2.butterfly splitfish? ( I know you will stock the tank with dark fish and splitfish are endangered in the wild and I know you like serpa design who recently made that video) 3.idk some kind of freaking tetra
I love her, I love her, she is so amazing, oh, my God, she's the best, blood parrots are my favorite, they are so weird looking and unique, every individual has personality 😍💕 I can't wait for updates on her I'm so excited I had a feeling it was gonna be a blood parrot, but I wasn't completely sure damn, I wish I said something
My guesses at the beginning of the video: Shell Dwellers, Rainbow Fish, and Congo Tetras. Guesses at 12:55: Angel Fish, Dwarf Puffers, African Chichlids
Cute little one, i call them hybrids, jellybean cichlids. I only recognize the South American parrot cichlid (Hoplarchus psittacus) as parrot cichlids.
Aww...I remember when my water lettuce looked that good. My LFS got in a shipment of some big health water lettuce so I picked some up a few months ago, but now the ones that are left are all flat (but still producing babies). I am new to floating plants and have a 13-year-old common pleco who likes to nom on them, so not surprised that they haven't done well.
Great choice for the 55 gallon! I love parrot cichlids and have a few myself. They are incredibly hardy and extremely intellegent as they will recognize you when you feed them more frequently and watch them. Also btw I think your parrot cichlid is a male bc usually males have pointed dorsal and anal fins. Keep him in good condition and he should be happy!
HELLO CHRIS! I’m on vacation. But I do watch your videos! Haha. Also! I see you use wood from the wild.. There’s so much fking wood out here but I never take it cause I get afraid something on or in it will kill the fish. Any tips? Priming: fill up the canister.. Put all hoses in the aquarium. PUT the the inlet in your mouth.. Suck on it strong a few times, when you taste something plug power in. If it doesn’t go, leave it in and suck on it once more. Trust me , I’m not an engineer. But I do know ext filters
I didn't put a guess down BUT parrot cichlid was what I thought when I saw you doing the terracotta pots in a 55g. Good looking setup though! She'll be quite comfy in there. My only complaint... You shouldn't have skimped on the aquasoil. I abhor root tabs. They only last a few months at most. You should've used that whole bag. As for tank mates, you could do another parrot cichlid, but they can be aggressive toward one another. Unless you got an XL/"king" variety, she probably won't get much bigger. They are super cool fish with loads of personality. Mine is in a tank in my living room and he follows me around all the time lol. Maybe some blue eyed tenellus rainbows?
Blood Parrots can be super bullies, I've found that they can be kept in large tanks with other fish or with armored catfish. That algae eater may be fine now but when the parrot gets bigger it could become an issue. Great setup though! I look forward to seeing it grow out.
@@HelloThere-zf8ke My parents have one in their retail shop that has killed over $100 worth of fish just this summer alone. Mean thing, bullies anything slightly smaller, frankly probably one of the meanest fish I've worked with next to a Jaguar Cichlid.
I love seeing you set up a tank , it deffinitly inspires me to redo my turtles tank with plants & a then a 3.5g grow out tank so she doesn't eat all the planta before they thrive .. Maybe, I'll get some 🦐 😊I like the new music but, you need more 👍🏻❤️ Epidemic Sound is free for a month .. Stream beats seems ok as well 😊 Looks fantastic ! I need to rewatch it again to see what the plants were again 🤣 I have a plant pot in her tank as well .. It isn't artificial it's made out of natural stuff right ? 🤣
