The wide tires the explorer comes with are fine for highway and sand. But in most places in America and Canada you want mud and snow tires. Thinner and able to dig in. I took the michelins off and put on a set of bridgestone M/S 19" tires. By the way my explorer is a 2006 so frame and body compared to this new one. It has taken me up switchbacks in the rockies and breezed past snowplows on the highways. It's fine for town and country but not a serious off road vehicle.
Alia Alemadi : You don't know me. I was not insulting Dubai. Today's Exprlorer a CAR. I've driven over the deserts sands of Kuwait and Iraq, and beaches of America and never got stuck. I was implying the current Ford would fall apart on any remotely rough terrain being based on a sedan with no real thought on off- road ability.
If Ford wanted to keep to its SUV heritage, they should have at least kept the body-on-frame chassis with a longitudinal engine and transmission. A solid live rear axle would also be good. What really bothers me is that Ford still makes claims that the Explorer is still a superior off-roader. That was true before 2002.
I wouldnt want to visit the dealer after warranty if that digital screen interface control system fails.. thats just looks like big money problems in the future
Sand is soft, take it on a mountainous, rocky course, then try to talk about capability and durability then...Until then, it can barely manage a couple curbs in the parking lot (and has had major steering problems).
sand is soft yes ... have u tried driving in our deserts ? u wouldn't last a minute without drowning ur car... this kind of driving needs serious experience
@sarzamineiran haha i bet that u never drove explorer i have the 2006 explorer 6 years my father drove it for 5 years and now i am driving it 130K KM never had problem with it off road car AMAZING and till now no engine sound i think u never drove an explorer m8 :D
