Almost all cars don't have spare tyres. That includes even Luxury SUVs like BMWs and Audi , which is ridiculous. Who wants to go off road without a spare tyre? Not me.
My dad used the boot as an ice cooler to take some drinks to the park, when he was done he emptied the water out of the compartment. Later on he got critical electric problems with the car. His steering locked up and the car went into limp home mode. The compartment is a gimmick and ford were being cheeky when he tried to return the car. They were refusing him a new car out right and only when he kept on at them did they offer to pay for repairs.
I've owned a Puma for one month and just came back from a road trip of nearly 1000km through Swiss Alps. Although the engine might suffer a little bit when it has to climb a mountain road, it is indeed a fun and versatile little car. The "all-terrains" driving mode works well and the boot is very practical (I definitely prefer the Megabox rather than a spare wheel that most of owners will never ever use). You can also effectively get a low fuel consumption if you drive responsibly. Go try the car if you're interested !
How is the car after a year? I'm planning to test drive it next week and I'm cautious of how tough the ride is, because of the "Sports suspencion" on the models I have my eye on. My other options I have my eye on are Skoda Kamiq and Hyundai Beyon.
@@Mifoe. It's alright, I have no major defects to report yet. As for the suspension, I think it's very subjective, depending on what your previous car was, but I wouldn't say the Puma's is too hard.
This man is good.Even though he drives some on the best cars in the world, he makes a review of the Puma seems as if he is genuinely excited. Shot out to the writers as well
Yes please! I currently drive a Honda Fit and since the next Fit isn't coming to America, eventually I will need to get a compact SUV (Hyundai Kona is currently high on the list). However, that is really cool talking about the boot with the drainplug which I think would be an awesome idea for tailgating.
Great review Rory and it's all spot on. Had ours for 4 months and the megabox is a game changer in a car this size. Lots of people have asked about it. Most compact SUVs have style but compromise on space. I've had 4 people in it plus a set of golf clubs, an upright vacuum cleaner (!) and other luggage. Averages 48mpg (155PS hybrid) and is so much fun to throw around. Hardly anything has a spare wheel now in Europe anyway...........
You're right, not very innovative just removing the spare, however as of mid 2020 the puma's megabox size grew, allowing for a mini spare wheel. I know because i have one. Though regarding the innovation part, giving the onwer the option to choose between more space and a spare wheel is innovative comparing to other models.
Kudos galore, Rory! Great review. Crisp and clear, comprehensive, fun to watch without being over the top. You are my fav car reviewer. Thank you, and: Keep up the good work.
Yesterday i picked up my blue Puma ST Line X 155 hp with Design package / 19 inch wheels. Car is very nice and makes a lot of fun 😍. All the assistants working very nice. Great car! Your Video helped me a lot buying this car! Its true what you are saying: the car puts a big smile on your face! Thank you! 😁😁😁😁
I probably sound a little old fashioned, but I would rather have a boot which can hold a spare wheel, than one which can hold a load of ice and a few bottles.
Rory I think you made a mistake. Mustang didn't BECOME an suv, Mach-E is added to the Mustang vehicle lineup. Or Mustang family, whatever, it's something like that
@@cameron4907 we not getting it because they can't sell it because people want suvs or crossovers, this is a crossover, they must scrap the ecosport and bring this beauty.
Actually the Suzuki Xbee has the same feature. It's a small removable bathtub so you can take it out and hose it down after you carried your soiled wellies, or live carp caught at your favourite fishing spot. Nifty anglers, those Japanese.
@@ZambonieDude Actually, the 3-cylinder engine with mild hybrid is ideal to be paired with the excellent 6-speed manual transmission. Ford should bring it to the U.S. with the ~150hp variant. Both the Ecosport and Escape have 3-cylinder engines, why not the Puma?
Ford USA needs to bring this Puma with Manual Transmission to the U.S./North American market. We desperately need a good Ford with manual gearbox in the lineup!
@@GhostOfAMachine Exactly why it's getting harder to find new manual cars here. And Ford makes the some of the best manual transmissions in the world, yet they dropped them from most cars here. For example, the Fusion (Mondeo) and Escape (Kuga) both have manual options in Europe; why not bring them back to us here?! I'd buy a Ford manual car as my daily driver for my next car
I currently own a 2018 Feista, and i like it a lot. So this Puma seems like a nice upgrade down the line, or maybe an electric version if that ever happens.
everthin said about this car in this review is what im looking for in the cars im currently driving... fun, economic, contemporary, practical... thats all of it
I like it and it's good looking like me. However as a SUV I'd expect it to tow a light caravan like the Swift Basecamp. It cannot as I understand because its maximum tow capacity is 750kg. I am willing to be corrected though.
I personally like the Titanium X (seems like there's no X in the UK, just Titanium) more than the ST-Line. I like the blockier grille and more SUV aesthetic. Don't understand getting a small SUV (or crossover if you intend on using marketing jargon) and then putting a body coloured sports bodykit on it.
ST-Line and ST-Line X do not have massaging seats. This option comes as standard for Titanium and Titanium X trim level only. According to the website.
Ford now do an option that you can buy a spacer wheel that is stored in half the deep box area-leaving a shallower box (I've seen it). Some of us DO value spare tyres/wheels that we can change and not rely on the gel system or rescue services that require a longish wait and transport to local garage of their choice that fleece you for the cost of a replacement tyre...been there, done that. :)
I agree! Please write or call FORD USA customer service and tell them we NEED the new Puma with 6-speed manual option in USA/North American market. Please don't let them neglect their home market. If all of their customers are telling them the same thing, they'll listen to us and bring it to the U.S.!
They should have named it the Flea, it rhymes and it makes sense and this is for people who have long commutes and/or do not like stopping at gas stations a lot.
I agree! Please contact Ford USA Customer Service and tell them we, their American customers, want the new Puma 6-speed manual to come to the North American/USA market. This is a perfect replacement for the frankly disappointing Ecosport that doesn't even offer a manual transmission option here. Thank you!
How is it for accelerating and motorway driving? I'm a musician looking for a slightly bigger car than my DS3, the boot seems perfect but don't want to skip the ability to drive the distances I do for size that ultimately bogs the car down
That hole in the floor is great for letting water out, but also if you forget to put that sucker back in then its going to be great or letting water in too and I’m not too sure anyone is going to want dirty road water in their new Puma
@@Simufreund309 On paper that might be true, but we all know Japanese cars built in Japan are always superior to Japanese cars built elsewhere. You cant expect other nations to have the same cultural attention to detail, honor, work ethic etc etc. Now matter how stringent the quality control procedure is.
I just helped my mum buy one of these in red. She got the ST Line 155bhp mild hybrid. It was a no brainer for her, as roomy inside as a focus but with a bigger boot and a slightly smaller footprint. And really good power and handling but amazing mpg. But what I don't understand is that it doesn't seem to have the automatic boot. I thought they all had that?
“Where’s the spare tyre” - Really? That’s the concern? My last 6 cars have covered 250,000 miles and none of them had a spare. I’ve had 1 puncture in that time (pothole annihilated the tyre) & the breakdown van took me to a tyre place & I got a new one, all done within the hour. With the shit jack& tools you normally get with a spare, it’d take nearly as long to change a wheel & you still need a new tyre. Pointless.

@@danielleroux6490 Ditto Daniel .... but why stop there ... I want the new Focus ST ... (loved my 2013 Focus ST) ... I WILL travel to Germany or somewhere in Europe to buy one ... even with Kilometers as the speedo, as long as it is left-hand drive ... I WILL GET ONE. The Honda Fitt/ Jazz deserves the praise this car gets for a versatile/ usable/ great use of interior but no car reviewer will ever do that cause they don’t want to seen as “boring”. The Honda Fitt/ Jazz punches far above its class for interior space, usability and practicality.
I so want to start a car review channel and collaborate with you and auto trader. Amazing. I do have a small ask. Would love you to check out my Chanel and feed back how I can improve. Strange ask but respect your opt. Ben.
Mild Hybrid. Or "Slap on a tiny electric motor to increase torque when accelerating". Not a true hybrid, but a nice innovation. And the extra-torque is right there when you need it, believe me.
