Ben your comment about your trying to figure out the application for the 6.8. The 6.8 was drsigned for weekend warriors towing a camper and needing extra payload and braking power that the f150 doesnt have. And the 7.3 was created because so many people wanted a heavier duty gas rig for more of everyday pulling eith out having to buy a diesal and deal with all the emmission garbage. I think that the 6.8 is going to be a great engine and if you absoutley had to you could get the 4.30 rear end in it.
@MooTuberyt
@MooTuberyt 21 день назад
I agree. I’m the weekend warrior. Had a F150 5.0 that was great but everything is getting bigger and heavier to tow. The F250 with the 6.8 gives me that little bit more that I needed without spending $100k. My F250 cost maybe $5k more then a new F150. Gas mileage is maybe 2-3 mpg less than my F150 (leveling kit and 33’s). So far so good.
@davep4610
@davep4610 24 дня назад
To me the 6.8 would be the obvious choice. A little less money and theoretically a hair better MPG than the 7.3. Unless you tow “big” or carry a large camper often.

Ben, how does the 6.8 compare to mpg and engine performance on Chevy/GMC 6.6 gasser?
@SkylarRace
@SkylarRace 24 дня назад
6.8L is for the person who wants a SuperDuty for the size and payload but doesn’t need to tow more than 14,000 pounds. And probably doesn’t plan on towing that often.

Ive driven and worked on all the new superdutys, and the gas engine is BY FAR the best to work on. They had some delaminating lifter issues in the early 7.3 which has since been fixed. The engine bay is given alot of room and overall the engine size is comparable to an old 351 windsor you would see in like a 80's LTD or a 90's ford pickup. Even the new 6.8 has more hp and the same torque as some of the older diesels people buy to tow with, its more expensive but also unsuprisingly has a more robust drivetrain compared to yesterdays trucks. The 6.7 powerstroke is an absolute pain in the ass to work on. Even as a former ford tech i much prefered working on the cummins trucks. If only they werent surrounded by a pile of dodge i would be 100% into them instead. But fords overall chassis ans body quality is superb to anything else sold today. The gas engine is a great option for most anybody. They get just as good fuel mileage as a tuned and deleted 6.7, when you account for the cost of fuel. Factor in that the diesel is a 10-15k option, and the tune / delete kits are another 10 grand, you wouldnt come out ahead on fuel economy for many many years. Plus the labor to work on them is very high, you have to lift the cab to change most major components simple because of how stuffed the engine is under the hood. If you arent towing more then 15,000-20,000 on a regular basis, the gas engine is fine for anybody. Unless you want to spend a bunch of extra money trying to impress other people with your "NeW dIeSeL tRuCk", thats your money to blow. For me, im more impressed with the gas engine then anything. Its no suprise to me that a v8 turbo diesel larger then 400 cubic inches can make 800 hp and 1500 ft lbs torque. What does impress me is the fact a nearly stock 6.8 or 7.3 doesnt even need turbos and can do the same work with the same chassis for half the price. Alsl if you read this far and your looking to buy a new truck, a word of advice from somebody who bought a new one: do your research, and order online. Go to the dealerships, look at the window stickers, drive them. Look at the options. Ask about them. Compare the cost. Is it really worth an extra $20,000 to get a trim package that includes a heated steering wheel when you can option out a Lariat with all the same options for $15,000 less? Are you buying a truck for the name thats written on it, or are you buying a truck because you need a truck? I spent an entire year and a half evaluating and researching before i purchased. I wound uo buying a 2024 F250, single cab. I am 6' 1" and i have to slide the seat up a solid bit to reach the pedals. I dont normally have people riding with me but i have a good ole bench seat for 2 more people, i can fit 4 or 5 in the cab if 2 people dont mimd sharing a seatbelt. I have the 6.8L gas engine. Its a solid unit. It will spin the tires if i want. I have 4.30 gears, a carli lift kit and 37" tires. I got the 4.30 gears because i knew where i live, theres alot of clay and mud and sand and snow, and I would need bigger mud tires to get through the PNW terrain I live in. The only boxes i checked were 4x4, tailgate step, and wheel well liners. The truck was 49,378. I put 5000 down and my payments are 700 ish /mo @ 5% intrest. I didnt need a crew cab long bed platinum f450 dually. I dont have to make a statement, im not trying to show off and impress people. That shit dont matter, im gonna die one day anyways. Im gonna do whats best for me, and thats not a $1500/mo payment on a depreciating asset thats gonna break down anyways. It tows my gooseneck container trailer and 10,000-15,000 lbs of farm equipment without trouble. Everything else either gets hauled by the semi or can drive itself because it stays on the farm, and is old enough i dont have to take it to the dealership for repairs. Evaluate what you need, drive them, figure out whats best for you. Not what is best to impress people. The gas engine is reliable, cheaper maintanence, and cheaper to own and insure for a very very long time. The ONLY downside to a gas engine i see is a lower towing capacity (which is still very high) and a lower resale value. But lets be honest, its cheaper to purchase, and you didnt buy a new truck to sell for a profit anyways.

The 6.8 exists for fleets and commercial contractors that don’t need 430 Hp in their basic truck. The 6.8 should be more durable due to thicker cylinder walls,which improves head gasket sealing and heat transfer.I’d like to see side by side towing comparisons ,mpg and performance testing.The few 6.8s I’ve seen do 0-60 times are much quicker than the 7.3l . Is that a fluke or does the lighter duty transmission,and lower option truck combination more than make up for the 25 hp difference?
@proudam3969
@proudam3969 23 дня назад
The 2024 & 2025 models 6.8L can run on E85 fuel and higher while the 7.3L doesn't. I run all my vehicles with 91 or higher octane premium fuel so doesn't matter to me. The exterior of this truck looks really good with the STX package.

6.8 replaced the old reliable 6.2 that was in every work truck, van etc. So they want it widespread to have it show it’s a solid engine. Just a detuned 7.3. Same block.
@79dent
@79dent 14 дней назад
Not even de tuned, just de stroked. They also have a cast crank vs a forged crank and longer piston rods. They also have the 10R100 vs the 7.3 which has the 10R140. Both are solid transmissions and the 10r100 is rated for 1000 nm torque, or 737.5 ft lbs which would be enough for the 7.3 to be honest. I beleive the 6.8L XL is the only way to get a new 2wd super duty, all the rest are 4x4 standard with no 2wd option. The 10r100 is the same transmission behind the high output 3.5 ecoboost and 5.0 coyote albeit with a different input shaft for the converter, the bellhousing is the same but the 6.8 has a more robust converter.

Have you shopped for houses, apartments, groceries, or insurance recently? Everything is extremely expensive the average new car sale in America is $40,000. You can get a base model F150 XL for 40K or an F250 XL for 47K. But you get 10x more technology, safety and convenience features standard now then you did 5 years ago.

I have a 2023 F350 XL STX CC with the 6.8. I love the truck so far ; have about7500 miles on it. Drove it on vacation this year driving about 400 miles 4 different days so about 1600 miles total. On one 435mile leg, averaged 18.0 mpg. The other 3 legs averaged right around 17.5 with the lowest being 17.3. This was all in the northern Indiana and Michigan area and on highways so pretty ideal . Actually averaged 19 mpg on the first 100 miles or so of one leg I believe due the lower speed limits in Indiana. Seems to get the best mpg when driving in that 55-60 mph range. My overall mpg since I bought the truck is now at about 15.6 mpg. This includes a lot of short trips (3-4 miles) and even some towing our 12’ stock trailer. Very happy with mpg, as well as overall performance so far. Plenty of power for what I do and will do in the future. Thanks for reviewing the 6.8. ! Look forward to hearing others experience with it.

“Underpowered” Lol. You can’t even touch the towing capacity of this truck with an F-150. You can’t even make the comparison…what are you saying? I’d love to see a power boost pull just 10k at 80mph: interstate vs this F-250. Watch the trans temps, EG temp, oil temp, and rear diff temp skyrocket. Definitely one of the dumber comments I’ve seen.
@handyman2183
@handyman2183 24 дня назад
Comparing “apples to oranges.” Even the best mechanical watch is inaccurate when compared to a cheap quartz. The value proposition in each case is different. Forced induction produces more power but that comes at a cost. I would venture to guess that towing a heavy trailer or driving over the speed limit brings the MPG difference much closer.
@alexsmba
@alexsmba 24 дня назад
@@braddenr.4778 dude the PowerBoost is rated to tow 14k lbs. it will do 10k just fine. But yes, the F250 has a bigger frame, bigger stronger axles, beefier tranny, bigger brakes, and more robust suspension. That being said, if I were towing 10,000 lbs, and it was just pulling occasionally, I’d still take the F150.
