New Forgotten Pond Holds Massive PIKE!

Well this session started off a bit slow. I went out in search of a hidden pond i discovered on google maps. After fighting my way through 20 yards of brambles i eventually got to the wild pond. It had hardly any access to fish, so i started off with the topwater in the hopes that might tempt a toothy predator from the margins, but nothing. After switching to a small handmade soft plastic bait thats when the session took a great turn!

As a pike fisherman myself it is awesome to get a good pike in a new water. I know of a small pond here in Scotland 10mins from my home and the pike are monsterous and so are the perch. My favourite type of fishing 🎣🎣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Gary have you ever fished the hidden big pond behind hamilton services just off the m74 ? Some fairly massive pike in there for it not being a big Loch caught quite a few big boys there on an orange and yellow 10cm lure spent a few hours and caught 10 pike in the one session

I live just north of you in NW Ontario. One thing that always blows me away is seeing large pike in small channels and ponds in the U.K. Over here in Canada any river or pond that small has no fish really. Our winters are too brutal to allow fish to live there, never mind big fish. Cheers.

I've lure fished a couple of decades around my local drains system and had two two doubles ever, and consider a session eventful if I even get one take or one follow! Catching a couple of jacks in the same session is a red letter day! I watch brilliant clips like this and think I must be bloody useless at the game!
@WolfmanWoody
@WolfmanWoody 3 года назад
No, you're not useless. As Dick Walker would say, in order to catch big fish you must fish where there are big fish. This Chris is very lucky finding two ponds that seemingly no one else knows about and they have some nice pike in them. You keep trying with different baits, fast and slow retrieve, up and down the water column, stick at it and you never know! I think he's very lucky indeed especially with the little streams.

Yet other local gravel pits I would be upset if I didn't have a busy morning. I also have other canals that will produce loads of pike and zander with upper doubles pike and even 20lb pike. Growing up, I had two small lakes on my doorstep, which my dad and I used to fish. Both had Roach, Rudd, Perch, Tench, Eels, Crucian Carp and of course, Pike. This was when you could still use live bait, so you’d catch half a dozen small Roach and then see if you could tempt one of the many pike, which ran up to around 20lbs. Great place to spend a childhood.

That's BEAUTIFUL Pike!!!! I'm 63 and I've only ever caught one on Lake Ontario in Canada when I was about 13 years old. Caught it. Cleaned it. Cooked it. And, of course, ATE IT!!!! The story behind it is CRAZY!!! I hadn't had any experience fishing before this catch. Was in the foster care system. The guardians took us (I was the only kid of color and the other guys were just young, dumb BIGOTS) camping at one of those KOA camp grounds. Woke up early in the morning; took the boat and went to the lake. It was early dawn and there was thick fog over the lake. I had set my rod between my legs and started rowing. Next thing I know my rod seems like it's gonna fly out. In my panic and fear I'd accidentally thrown one of the oars to grab my rod. When I regained my composure (as a first-time experience) I thought OUT LOUD that I was going to "drown" this fish for scaring me so bad. So I used the motor thinking I would drag this fish to death. Obviously, THAT didn't happen. I'll tell you the other part AFTER I finish watch your video.

Nice big pike Ginger. I'll ask you the same question that I've asked a couple of other YT anglers and didn't get reply's. What happens to all the lost plastic lures and bits ( like the tail of your blue shad ) when you don't get them back? Hmm?? Did that lovely Pike eat it and what is it going to do to the fish's body? We, as fishermen and conservationists want to keep our waterways cleaner and more productive than before and what are you all still doing?? Deliberately throwing plastic into the water?? 🤔 I don't own any plastic lures and refuse to use them. I've only ever used natural bait, polished metal spoons, wooden minnows ( I even worry about the paint flakes coming off them ) and carbon steel hooks. Hand carved wooden lures with no paint still catch good fish if they are presented well and have natural action. And forget about turbid water being no good for lures. Fish have lateral lines so they can 'see and feel' vibrations in the water. Cheers from downunda. :)

BRO!! WHEN YOU ARE FISHING FROM SPOTS THAT ARE CONGESTED WIYH OVERGROWTH THAT HAS NO ROOM TO PROPERLY CAST,, you always bring a brush rod only a foot long w micro reel. If not do this trick!! It works best with open Bell wheels though but you hold the line with one finger on the rod grab the back hook on the curve pull and launch like a slingshot and release you'd be surprised yourself how far it'll throw any size lure give it a try the flex of the rod will actually launch really nicely

FYI . When walking in the woods,I started carrying my rods (1 or 2 pieces)backwards.years ago. Doesn’t get hung on as many bushes ect. Carry all of them butt end forward now. Even when surf fishing on a beach with no bushes and trees. The barometric pressure drops when T’s raining,takes pressure off of fish swim bladders,turns on their appetite. That’s what I was told a long time ago anyway. Rain seems to turn them on for whatever reason. Imagine it knocks a lot of bugs down in the water too. Hey from NC. USA

I can't even describe how much I envy you, just simply catching fish instead of performing one futile attempt after another. In part of Poland where I live, we have a funny situation, since big fish are almost all either: - caught by so called meaters (they eat everything they can and there are enough of those to basically remove all the fish from every water near populated area) - caught by poachers (a true plague in less populated areas and due to almost 0 Fishing Guard presence throughout the country - the risk is minimal). As a result, a guy I know who caught 12 pikes (in the entire season and BTW that is considered a good result around my city) hasn't caught even 1 that would meet the "minimum length criteria" (you can basically take anything above the minimum length) of 50cm around the place I live. Why? All above 50cm when caught are eaten (the meaters are KINDA law abiding). And since we have a daily limit of 4 pike OR zander or trout or eel or asp or barbel, basically a few retired meaters who have nothing else to do can basically remove all predators above limit from a really big body of water. And we basically have no limit for perch, so perch is basically extremely difficult to catch too. There's plenty of non-predator fish (that are mostly considered not-so-tasty), so predators have a lot to eat, unfortunately, predators are mostly considered a delicacy. So we have some of the most barrren waters in Europe. Great success, high five.

telling anybody a real fisherman goes out in all kinds of weather. I was fishing when I was 10-11 years old. I go out on the jetties on Staten Island. Dead winter time snow . I'd make a fire on top of the jetty water was splash over and put the fire out. That's when it got rough. But I was catching bluefish snappers which are baby blues . Because the little must be snapping. Flounder porgie's. I'll never forget I was the only one out there. My dad used to come down to the jetty. He wouldn't walk on that Jetty. Because the water was splashing all over the place. I had to wait when it hit I run underneath it so I wouldn't get wet. That's how hard it hit. Then it would be like two three inches of water coming over the top. My daddy's like come on let's go home.. I look at him like I'm having fun Mr Chicken. But he was right. It was getting worse and worse. I caught fish too. I wouldn't go home with no less than 10. And I was out there for a while probably 2 hours maybe three. Using bloodworm sand worms. Killies. Those were the days. That's back in the 60s. Late 60s. South Beach jetties. You don't fishing bad weather you ain't no fisherman. My God! Those were the days

JV24+4CX Doncaster put this in Google maps, I would love to see you fish this place, caught some good pike in here when I was a young un it used to be run by international harvesters but I don’t think anyone has run it for the last 30years or so, I had a walk round a few months ago but It was totally overgrown.

Nice technique hauling that big fish out by hand! Probably not recommended, but you clearly know how to do it. That is unbelievable how big those pike get.

It's amazing to watch this fishing and the size of those Pike! Wow. You need to get a bigger boat. (from the movie "Jaws") These Pike can be dangerous, be careful. from Scotland

not to rain on your parade..great fish..but hes STARVING his head should be in proportion to his body mass..this one clearly is not in proportion..means hes old and limited to his food supply....take some bait fish that thrive and relese them there..will help to restock this pond and make ur pike buddy much much bigger

Great fish from a rarely fished pond. Some exploration with the float tube could prove fruitfull. . .

I'm surprised that such good sized fish surrender so quickly. Just a couple of minutes and they are in. They look strong but seem to have little endurance. Wonderful fun just the same.

Brings back fond memories of my youth, when my friends and I would go fishing for pike in a beaver pond close to my home. They were never this big, but they were abundant. Mom never let us bring them home. They were not that good eating; boney and tasted like mud. But we enjoyed our selves, and it was a Damm site better than being glued to some silly video game.

You should be a little carefull lol, all the sticks and stuff could get you, as well as the pike in trouble with the line and on top of that a possible thunderstorm in the heavy rain. If you get hit by lightning you can't tell stories any more and with the rod in your hands you're only raising those negative odds. *Edit: Those pikes could be sisters!

Catching 15+ lbs. In the rain? Ya its all worth it mate. You can maybe use live bait, like possible sunfish or bluegills.

The problem with these 'forgotten' ponds is someone inevitably owns the land they are situated on so there is always the risk of trespass.

Do you try and carry your rod behind you. I snapped a bute of my Hardy cane pike rod. Just the top. It will cost more to replace a new top secdion but it's a bute rod so yip I will get it fixed. I'm old school cane and steal brass even wood reels..

Always exciting fishing places like that, who would have thought a small pond like that could harbour pike of that size.

How cold do you usually fish your topwater on the other side of the pond? They get real big in some small water over there! Was there a creek leading to it? Great video!
