In the 17th Century, the mighty Huron Confederacy, or Wendat Confederacy consisted of several Iroquoian speaking nations who held a monopoly on the fur trade from all points North and West headed to New France. Both the French and the Wendat became economically dependent on one another and the acceptance of Jesuit missionaries into the lands of the Confederacy in the 1630's a French precondition to keep the Fur flowing. Despite their best intentions the Jesuits cause a rift among the Wendat and and the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy) seeks to assimilate the Wendat, take over their territory and monopolize the trade for themselves. The ensuing war has left us with perhaps the most graphically depicted acts of torture from the Colonial Period, not for the faint of heart.

My 8th GGF was Atseña, last Great War Chief of the Huron Bear Nation. My mitochondrial DNA traces to his daughter, 8uenta. Their baptisms are recorded 25 Nov 1651 at St-Marie. He perished at the hands of the Iroquois on 3 Aug 1657, after negotiating surrender of the last remnants of the Bear Nation. This is mentioned at 52:05. Baptized Catherine Pillard, 8uenta was raised French and lived to age 66, bearing 12 children with husband, Pierre Charron.

Ngl I always found the Iroquois Confederacy way more interesting since so much was able to be recorded from them, including even the titles of all 50 sachem offices that were part of their grand council, so I was never able to appreciate the complexities and strength and history of the Huron Confederacy as well. Thank you so much for highlighting the other colonial powers in the continental US but MOST especially the Native powers of the US as well.

I really agree, this is an awesome channel, it deserves a lot more viewers and subs... it fills in a lot of knowledge pn the early history or America... it's not as popular an interest, I think because people prefer the "glorious" histories of monarchies, enpires and aristocrats... that's always received the most attention, often time they are propaganda or even vanity pieces dedicated to kings and great men. I find such things very interesting too but it is overemphasized. For anyone interested in Universal History - study of history that moves between the big picture and zooming in on detailed historical episodes to tell of the age old struggle of two broad competing systems: that of empire, hereditary privileges, bondage/exploitation of the masses/sub-classes, monopolies, court intrigues vs that of more meritocratic and/or egalitarian systems, natural law, cooperation between peoples and individuals, greater freedom and/or the quest for (attaining a state closer to) liberty, public minded policy, more harmony and cooperation - then check out historians Matthew Ehret and Cynthia Chung and their work at the Rising Tide Foundation and other outlets. It's actually impressive that history can be followed from this lense without too much pattern-forcing. It's inspiring and gives hope even thoughit also looks at some of themost odious things that parts of humanity have committed/fallen into.

If the Huron were able to trade their furs for muskets then they would have been a formidable enemy of the Iroquois. The French, however, were reluctant to give Hurons fire sticks. The French were too obsessed about converting the Huron to Christianity. Their Jesuits equally brought disease into Huronia thus weakening the nation (ref. Isaac Jogues, Saint in the Wilderness). The Iroquois were constantly trading with the Dutch to secure muskets thus by the end of the Beaver War 1649 the Huron Confederacy was pretty well fragmented and dissolved.

Another fun thought is that “sennecock, Senneca,” etc could be “seneschal” in French meaning and also as important as “palisades” were and the palatines that guarded them.. ask a Louisiana Creole to say “palatine” or even “Palestine” and you hear “Powhatan” everytime. Those contexts are important since those creole shipmen were the exact go betweens for a time, between what we know now and what they heard back then.. Or more to the point the Creole shipmen heard one thing from the “native” and said it back to the literate scribe maybe quite another way. Then there’s the punishment of tongue tip removal for criminals and I’d bet 20 that most the shipmen and indentured settlers were once considered criminals in the lands they came from. So I always pinch my tongue and repeat a word over and over if I wanna vibe best it’s meaning or parallel to a language etc. Thanks so much for your hard work this is an amazing channel I’m just loving it!

I’m actually deeep into connections between babylon and the Iroquois and it would not surprise me if their name has everything to do with the Eric the red character that was “lost” to the Roman authorities at a point after traveling to this area. The origin of the knights were in a parallel history of guru chilcat types for most of the year in areas relative to such.. and the other portion of time collecting tribute and smashing rebellions etc in the other parts of the world relative to such. This links to the allemani and 8th century massacre of their boys. They don’t reappear in strength until the Norman invasion. I can tell you with confidence that England maybe didn’t rob India at first but that India rather robbed back wealth stolen by the Mongolians/Assyrian/Tibetans of Tang and song that firstly robbed indias goodies before founding Scotland.. But the most interesting to me is what the Sikh know about all that. I love everyone but I love truth more. Have fun exploring those gems and I’m available to aid searches if anyone needs such. Did you know “David” can be reverse translated into “Tibet” through Germanic to Latin sound changes? I don’t think the scots genealogies are myth at all. I think they tell a story the Bible itself is trying to tell if only the reader can see with honest empirical eyes to see. Anyway the Allemani revenged carloman with the sack of Nalanda and then the Sikh revenged and then the Mughals revenge and then the ottomans revenge the French and we arrive at the Barbary wars… where all the key players from the descendants of powhattan fame get Re-planted into Libya, Syria and the Levant only later to be resettled into the mandate of Palestine. So today as sad as this sounds in context, we are still killing those same Indians. Just wait til the world finds out we bombed Pocahontas great grandkids…

The pattern forcing, although masked, is ever so present. There isn't one lense. Villainizing one tribe over another, one religion over another, as done here, serves only to sell a "lense'.

Was the Iroquois the most feared, the most dominant tribe on the west coast? were they dominant over all Canadian western tribes? And what are primary sources that highlight native torture in the greatest scope? What years in the Jesuit Relations capture the most amount of native torture and warfare?
@safeysmith6720

The Jesuits are infuriating!! They are the biggest reason for the Wendat downfall. The Jesuits basically paved the way for the Iroquois to come in and destroy the Wendat. At one time, the five nations feared the power and might of the Wendats, and dreaded the thought of running into their war parties.
@jonsmith3664

My family tree branches in early Rus and several “tribes” both sides the pond. I think sea travel was 💯 the daily life of the stock of those mothered the “native” cultures. So they saw europes coasts once a year just as the cycle of their life went. Many “hordes” took to the sea as such and specifically those of Rome back when they were limited to septs and numbered groups, probably what fit on the junk ship. I can’t prove this yet but I think that Ashur means “ashore” and that Syrians were the sea-dwellers and the Ace-rens or ashurians Assyrians or Ace-hurrians were the ones that got to live on shore. And to that point the Barbary wars showed a recorded linkage to many of the 17-19th century tribal folks from Canada and the Americas in service of our country and in relocation to Syria and Levant etc. it’s not a joke when I say pÅmun’qee folks may be in Palestine today. Or were or however that’s working out. Revenge is a immortal spiritual experience for the Utare and related old blood cats. Serious long-range plans for revenge are like heroin to those in the ancient know. Did you know that “Ainu” means “I knew Moses”? Not kidding. They don’t specific say Moses but is Mus or something to that effect. Sorry I live this stuff 22 hours a day and am still happily married so.. I promise I’m not a cooky weirdo lol I just love to learn and have no one to share it with… one reason I’m still happily married.. I have decent sense of when to shut up.. except these damn thumbs could type all day lol K I’m out!

The Dutch reformation is represented in names as Der, dero, dar, de re, dura, de vere and even van diver. It sounds weird but when the allemani princes/males were killed by carloman in 8th century, the only allemani to carry on the Parthian stock was the women. So the y haplogroup narrows indefinitely and yet the maternal haplogroups remain consistent with allemani tribes of multiple stocks. At this point Persians and Vergians become bersians and Deer-sons. Now at this time orange hair and larger builds come of the children of the two different “stocks” coming together for the first time. In botany it’s called F1-hybrid and it’s amazing. The first seed start from a cross of 2 sorta different stocks yield the biggest and baddest of the possibly future descendants. “Giants in the land” was not a myth a think but a time sensitive recording of actual happening. Imagine the first time a huge Norwegian stock mixed to a Siberian stock? Holy hell it would be awesome to behold. Scotland forms this way it seems on my genealogy deep search. And I can even show how California and caledonia may be connected in origin. The tale of Cali coming over and kicking butt on some palace mayor.. I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t a revenge for the allemani princes massacre. No joke. Suddenly seapeople swarm europe and writing stops. Kind of. Well.. China records such. China has a clean record of everything from here to there. No one ever burned their books it would seem.. Perry mason might wonder if they are just amazing at hiding stuff or if they were holding the matchbook…? Either way I think if I was to bank on a center point for world geography it would be where the Han bury their mums.. then set your cardinal points from there. California and maybe original cali-Doña was actually “far-east” as in where the Dawn comes from… when waking in China.. Japan is “east” and the Americas “far-east”. Kinda crazy but could be in context to the Romances of China. And chinas dynasty records are of multiple “stocks” and races etc. And same as some Egyptian and euro dynasties. Just all the winners. They keep track of all the winners. It’s funny but I set out once to prove that every Edgar caycee prophecy or whatever was actually true and the one that seemed most far fetched was that China would become Roman Catholic. But after careful polymath hunt I can say with confidence that “China” was already Rome. If not always Rome in every stage, absolutely Rome in Empire stage and all sides of it. The invasions of Ireland book matches up perfectly with the romance of the 3 kingdoms. And I think that’s a tongue in cheek Wei of saying “rough wooing”. But on the Subject of early Scouts and the name caledonia…

Dude you got me rethinking about carlomans massacre of the allemani men and how the jesuits might have been involved… I link the jesuits to the Sikh and tang in Roman Empire days as parallel knights and monks. Cathars really eventually or always whatever. So no judgements to them but ya know so I look up where the massacre happens and it’s en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Cannstatt They added the “bad” in 1933… Interesting here for badica vatika and Bathika as this is the reason for the “bad” (German for bath I guess) but… scroll down that link to their “logo” lol it says shit backwards ya know like the jesuits “logo”.. hmmm.. Were the “suitors” massacred and thusly they now have been revenging against the ones that massacred them? … Or.. Like any other Roman tribute naming trend, where the conqueror takes the name of the conquered.. were the jesuits the extension of the knights that did the Massa-curing? You touched on a matter that holds physical numbers in the billions of deaths at the hands of such “curing” methods of theirs. If you consider the link to as far back as Chinese Eunuch intrigues and the Camorra monk/knights/spies… this is a serious problem that gets overlooked in history coverage. And one “of that IIk” is literally head of the world rn as the world turns to utter hell. But he’s so nice.. cue classic serial killers neighbor interview news clip..
