Yes, at first I thought I was not praying it properly because at the beginning the Antiphon didn’t seem complete, but then it completed the thought at the end. I’m really enjoying that aspect now. God bless
Right? The first time I encountered the half-antiphon, I was distressed and confused-but now I love it! It’s like the tension of a cliff-hanger with a beautiful resolution.
Oh goodness, that first one is the epitome of "don't judge a book by its cover!" I bought my copy yesterday from a little local Catholic goods store and I was so excited to start today, but I was so genuinely confused! I don't even remember if the other versions were offered, though...
I purchased the first one (the Rotelle version). I also had my feisty toddler with me, so really spending time getting to know the book wasn't really a viable option at the time! 😅
Thank you for this! I just started praying the Angules Press edition (I’m new to this devotion and I apologize for all the questions). It is hard to tell when to insert the antiphon; I’ve been praying the ant. after each verse of the Psalms. Is that correct? Also what does the black star symbol mean? Is it ok if I can can only pray Matins and Compline- I’m homeschooling and it’s been a challenge to incorporate every hour into the day. 🙈I’m sorry again for all the questions but I would like to make sure I’m doing it correctly! Many thanks and blessings… I always look forward to your bright smile in these videos!😄❤️🙏
The Angelus Press edition is a little different. Your antiphons are all written in. In example, p 2 has all the “Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with thee”s written in the appropriate places. This is the Invitatory psalm and the only one with the antiphon used throughout. The example for the rest of the psalms can be found on p 6 : it has Ant 1 before psalm 8. It is also at the end of Psalm 8, but listed as just “Ant.” Basically, the repeated antiphon at the end of the psalm is not numbered. This is similar to the 4 Volume Liturgy of the Hours and Christian Prayer. I believe the black star is where you should be taking a short pause, just a breath long. And yes, the Secular Franciscans recommend that we pray two offices daily, but even that is just a recommendation. The daytime hours are pretty short, you may be able to use them with Grace before lunch or snack ;) but seriously, our Lady see our little efforts. Thank you for praying them.
My Baronius Little Office book hasn't been so durable, but then, it is the one I've used the most and although it's rather beaten up, it's still usable. Also, it's been out of stock - I'm guessing they'll be doing a new print run soon.
Deanna, have you ever seen the Caritas Publishing edition of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary? It's a bit larger than these, it's the traditional office, in English only aside from a few Antiphons, and it had an Aqua Blue leatherette Cover with Gold writing, and one blue ribbon. I just started praying the little office using this version. I would enjoy seeing a video about this version to see what you think of it compared with the other two traditional versions.
Thank you for these walk through videos. Our parish will be using the one by Angelus Press. Can you include some notes on how to use it also. God bless you!
Here is the first video for you. It is unlisted for now, but you can share the link. Let me know what you think: Ep 1 Angelus Press Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Getting Ready! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r7KGA4XzLGM.html
Have you seen the version published by St Bonaventure, it's the 1904 version? I can't find much information about it. It's a little more expensive than other versions but it looks good quality. I was thinking of getting for Christmas. I'm in the UK and I can only find one seller over here.
