Hi I'm still using the good old X-T20 and I am very happy with it. The results are amazing and I was paying new sFr. 1.090.- for it (~ 1000 $) including 2 zoom lenses (OIS). I never would pay more than 1000 $ for a body with APS-C. ... 🇨🇭
The long and the short of it is this. Invest in the "Glass". Is 26mp enough, for most people it is. $1600 is in the rang of many of the competitors. From 20 miles north of London, be lucky stay safe.
Thank you for bringing up these alternatives. If I were in the market, I'd opt for X-T5 with 16-80mm f4, though - especially with the low bundle prices still around. But, actually, I'll stay with my X-Pro3 and my stable of prime lenses. For my very own use cases, of course.
I don't need extra megapixels. My X-T30 has more than enough. I use the drive dial a lot, so I'd be lost without it. I don't often change film sims. When I do, I'm happy to use the Q-menu. The price is high, especially when one compares the new camera with the X-T5. I wonder if Fuji is making a few mistakes with this one. As to the lens -- it looks underwhelming to me.
I just don't see the rationale for getting the x-t50 vs the x-t5. The additional features of the x-t5 make it seem like a bargain compared to the projected x-t50 price and feature set. The only thing you are giving up with the x-t5 is a bit of size and weight while gaining weather sealing (!) and a larger battery (!). When I want a smaller kit, the x-e3 and Sigma 18-50 are better fit for me. Too bad there is no x-e5 on the horizon.
You'd be surprised how much that "a bit of size and weight" factors into it, especially if you're looking at a camera that you lug around for a whole day while traveling or doing street photography.
Think of this XT50 as an updated XE3 having 40mp and in camera stabilization. Focusing may also be faster. Light weight, small size, and high Mp is an unusual combination that to me, is worth the extra $$.
No way that I am interested in the X-T50. I would be better off purchasing a used X-T4 for less $. The new lens, that depends on the price. I use Tamron's 17-70mm 2.8 for my main lens, so I will wait and see. The upside of the Fuji 18-50mm will be its 40 megapixel resolving ability. The biggest deal breaker for the new camera is that it will use the old batteries. Once I have used the new batteries, I will never go back.
Stan I kind of feel the same way. I’m starting to rethink getting the camera. I’m not interested in the lens at all. I really am interested in the X-Pro4 if it’s on the horizon.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography I shoot both Nikon Z and the Fuji X systems. Fuji's film simulations and their beautiful jpegs are second to none! I generally shoot jpegs with Fuji and RAW for Nikon in difficult theater lighting for dance performances. My Fuji X-T5 is my favorite travel and nature camera of all time.
Price is very steep when considering the body is not weather sealed and only one card slot, both of which my XT3 has. Here in Gibraltar I can get the xt5 and 16-80 f4 lens for GBP1849. If Fuji are asking such a steep price for the xt50, I shudder to think what they may charge for a future xpro4.
Fujifilm makes some pretty good cameras, but some times they stub OUR toes. Unless you like to crop significantly, a 24 mp will do just fine. When I was looking for a new camera, the first thing I used to disqualify a camera is the LCD screen fully articulating. It isn't on many cameras of various brands. That also disqualified the Fujifilm GFX 100II. The X-4 would have been my choice, but the Fujifilm X-s20 blew the socks off just about everything else. the GFX 100II should have been built this way, but with a 100 mp imager. So what it means, I don't put up with equipment that fights with me and I won't spend a penny more to undo something stupid, such an not having a fully articulating screen. To fix that blunder would cost me about $1,000 or more. T-50 has older technology and the way it is configured should have been priced around $500. I'm surprised that it didn't go back to the old orthicon tube for imaging. For my purposes the only thing the X-s20 lacks is a paper manual. It's almost impossible to make notes on a digital manual. Printing 400+ pages (200+ sheets) would make the manual the size of a New York phone book. Talk about wasting paper! There are better alternatives with better pricing than the Fujifilm T-50. Fujifilm will definitely loose money on this boat anchor. Good video. Be safe.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography Actually I think they should make these cameras with both options. But you can keep a fully articulating screen tucked into the camera. I would have to buy all the equipment and adaptors to add an outboard screen. One of the main concerns about fully articulating screens is that they will break. I have never had one break on me. One camera, a video camer,a is 20 years old. the jacks are failing, but the screen is sturdy as ever. Of course, with enough force anything will break except elected officials. But I get your point. So camera makers, make your cameras both ways. Be safe.
When I switched over to Fuji I purchased an X-T30 for a backup to my XT3. It was the perfect choice. The sensor was the same and most of the controls. Much less expensive at the time I think it was $699 or $799. Not so much any more for the XT50. I may forego the XT50 if rumors start coming out for an XPro4.
I've applied for a ticket for the consumer day at the X Summit in Sydney on the 18th so I'm hoping to go along and get a close look at the X-T50. I love my X-T30, the size and weight are great for my arthritic hands, and I was really excited about the X-T50 because I like a lot of the features but I'll think twice about it if the drive dial changes to film simulation. I've got used to using my drive dial and it would be more of a pain to access those functions through the Q menu than it would be to change film sims.
@@KirkWilliamsonphotography If the Fuji Rumors guy is even in the ballpark with that estimated price, it's still way more than I'd be willing to spend on an X-Txx.
It may also be a tactic to kill the xtx0 line. With the x100v/vi back orders they changed unfulfilled vs to vi’s automatically. Odd they cancelled it outright.
No on camera-happy w/xt-5. Maybe on lens- looking for a lighter zoom for hiking/travel that is about this range. But the Sigma might be a better choice. Cost of lens alone? Quality compared to Sigma 18-50?
Hey krik , well you have a amazing content out there!! Needed a small suggestion 🙂 from you , I am not a beginner been using Nikon cameras!! Wants to shift to fuji But i am confused about xt5 and xt30 mark ii I am somone who is purely into Street photography But also needs a small edge in cinematography too !! So which camera i would go for !!! Cheers thanks in advance
Thanks! If I were you I would go for the X-T5 it’s a much better camera. The video specs are great and it has IBIS which the X-T30ll does not have. So handholding video is great. Still photography is fab with this camera so you can’t go wrong. Like the X-T4 it has a stills/video switch on top!
My latest Fuji is the Xt-3. I have been wanting a camera with IBIS, 40 meg, and better auto focus for nature photography with my Sigma 100-400. Will the IBIS work well with the IBIS in the long lens, or will it just default to the lens IBIS only? I hope the auto focus is even better than the Xt-5 since it is newer. I like that it used the older battery because that matches my other Fujis. The price is a disappointment.
Nah. We've entered the nutso zone thanks to the viral blitzkrieg over the X100V / VI. Fuji is simply playing musical chairs with features to keep the upgraders brand-loyal at this point. Besides, the beauty of the XT-series bodies and f2 lenses is their small size and ease of use - true grab-n-go stuff with solid image quality. The X-T series 2/3/4/5 are still smaller than a comparable DSLR and some MILCs too. The X-T3 does video just fine, and 26mp is more than adequate for most enthusiasts who don't repetitively crop and/or print large. The price Fuji is asking for this XT-50 Frankenstein Jr. kit will plummet within a few months, if not sooner. $2k can buy some solid, lightly used or last-gen wonder gear, including a mildly used X-T5 for those clamoring for more, more, more but don't want to go broke in the process. FYI...I own the X-E1 (bought it and the 18-55 when first introduced, still love em both), X-T3 and XT-30, X-T4, and a host of Fuji branded primes and zooms - it's my APS-C system (Nikon FF DSLR being the other). So I'm into Fuji - I like what they've done for the most part with the sensible diversity of their lineup, performance and manual controls, though it seems they've come undone somewhat after the change-ups starting with the XT-30ii and X-E4. Now we're into wondering if certain lenses are good enough for the 40mp sensor no one asked for (but Sony's R-series guys seem to thrive on). Let's keep photography FUN. A buddy of mine introduced me to a new acrostic recently: "JOMO" - the "JOY of Missing Out".... let's just say no to the lunacy and shoot what was more than adequate a couple years ago and invest in making better exposures with that stuff.
. . I spoke to a store owner yesterday who has been in touch with a Fujifilm rep and I've been told that the XT30 II is being discontinued, to focus sales on the new XT50 model. 😣
@@vaynovak Fuji are screwed then re serious photographers. Guess they’ve always got the you tubers. As I said more and more like bad side of Sony. They’ll be Olympus/ OM in 5 years.
@@alexbenstead5922 I hear you. It's a bad sales tactic considering the popularity of the XT30 II. My back order for the XT30 II was cancelled yesterday. I am so disappointed, I was really looking forward to picking it up for a long trip to Europe. Maybe they'll reconsider production of the XT30-II when they see sales dropping.
Yes, I will be purchasing this camera with the new 16-50mm lens. I already have an XT3 and XE3, which are both fab, so why another camera? Answer: the 40mp, IBIS, and the latest processor, but most importantly...the 40mp for cropping! I also considered the stacked sensor XH2S. It has faster readout for BIF shooting, but the image quality would be the same as the XT3, so no, I will pass on the XH2S until the IQ is significantly improved via future models. Recently, I used the XE3 every day at the Florida Renaissance Fair, and appreciated the light weight and inconspicuous size. I will get ALL of that with the XT50! So, thanks Fuji for another winning camera!
We paid less for a new X-T5... the X-T50 will not sell to informed buyers if it is priced the same (or within 10%) of the X-T5 OIS not needed on a lens that ships as a kit lens as all new cameras will have IBIS. The battery would not bother me, as I still shoot an X-T3 too, (and now also an X-100 VI) We're not likely to buy an X-TXX camera. I did love my X-T10 that I recently sold (it was just gathering dust) , however if an X-T3 failed (unlikely as is still like brand new, even though it is 4 years old) we'd be looking at a replacement, and justifying whether we need another X-Tx camera or if the X-Txx will do. At the current projected price, it would be just get another X-T5
I love my 2017 X-T20 at 749 $US if I remember correctly. 1600$ for the X-T50 is more 200% increase. Its insane. I prefer find an IBIS X-H1. It's ... ... not for me for this price. I hope it will be australian dollars not us dollars.
I have X T 20 Fujifilm. And this design pushed me to learn taking photography. I used my X T 20 in super cold Sweden and in the desert of Al ula suudi Arabia. I think that fuji makes durable cameras. I worried a lot during the process of taking photos. I think that you get X T 5 camera image quality with this camera so I think that it is worth of paying. I am archaeologist and I used X T 20 in Turkey and I am so happy with results and we will get great image quality. If your work in studio and cant afford the other fujifilm cameras then this is a good choice.
I wouldn’t be too fussed about the battery as although it’s nice to have a larger battery in a small camera I just take a spare. I have no desire to have 40mp. My hope would be maybe update my x-t30 to a used x-t30ii if there was a bargain maybe
Love the film simulation dial, plan on using it for jpgs, and with the versatility of film sims dial, makes me very Intrested. But wow that price will stop allot of people from buying this, esp if they have the xt5 already. The only real difference for me at this range is the smaller form factor of XT50
That price is steep, definitely agree on that and they definitely made some weird choices while upgrading it, if you could call it that. I just got a little used X100T so that's going to be my travel/street photography camera, I'll still keep the X-T3 as my main camera and all my lenses, but down the line will probably upgrade to X-T5. The prices of the latest and greatest I just feel aren't worth it when the older models are still plenty enough for me to use for my photography.
Newer models will have the advantage of incorporated AI, especially for bird/animal detection and lock on focus with moving objects. The last thing I want is a "new" older camera at discount.
maybe since Fuji X-T50 put almost everything inside X-T5 inside smaller body, this might be just an excuse to sell a more expensive camera add expensive 40MP sensor+IBIS to a 2 digit X-T body Is Fujifilm slowly turning into Leica this time?
A lot of stuff Fuji is doing seems like inventing new cameras that don't really advance the lineup. Fix the focus! I need to replace my old bodies and seriously thinking about Sony..... Shouldn't be the case. Been with Fuji since they released the XE1. But they are sadly falling behind the competition where it matters.... And focusing on what? Film simulations that don't matter to many of us
To be honest I don't mind the old battery. I think they kept it to keep the camera compact and light. I was hopeful about the x-t50 until I learned about the price and the 'film simulations dial'. Oh boi 😮💨 Scrapped the x-t50 plans, just grabbed an xt30.
I love my x-t30. It’s what made me swap to Fuji. The only downside is that I can’t do quite a film simulations as I don’t have the base ones to amend but not a big deal but it such a great little walk around camera
Over the years I bought a X-T10, X-T20, and X-T30. In each case, the body price dropped a lot, especially on the used market. At the rumored $1600 price point and the lack of WR, I think I rather save up a little more and buy the X-T5. That lack of WR really gets to me. Sure some of the lens I currently use, including Sigma 18-50/2.8 and Tamron 11-20/2.8 also don't have WR; but, those lens are cheap enough I can live with the risk. Not so with the X-T50.
The camera sounds nice and is what people were hoping would happened in the progression of Fuji cameras. The X-T30 II was not significant for me to consider an upgrade from the original X-T30. They released this instead of what people hoped was an X-T40. But the price point for body only is too salty, if true. I will hang onto the X-T30 longer. It’s been great thus far.
I have the XT5 and will buy this as well. Much smaller, lighter and with a lot more megapixels for street photography where the XT5 is just too big. For me it's a no-brainer. Everyone is different.
Thank for the video Kirk. I won't be purchasing the XT50 since I'm pretty set right now with my current Fuji camera lineup (still paying for my X100VI ;-) ). For video, I purchased the X-S20 and I'm very happy with that camera. Among other things, it has the bigger battery which makes it pair nicely with the X-T5. Have you considered that for your video needs?
If the price of the camera comes in at around $1380 US I will consider it. Mainly because my X-T30 is long in the tooth for good video work. Price is still and obstacle.
I'm with Nikon FX and got myself as a second gear for everyday photography an x-s10 with the 18-55 plus a Fringer to use my Nikon lenses - which works perfectly. An upgrade to the rumoured x-t50 with the same battery (life) at a price tag higher than € 1.200,- does not make sense for me.
The lens, yes, I am interested, though the lack of an OIS and slower f-stop on the 50mm end are my two major gripes. That said, the weather sealing and internal zoom are the two major positives. I love my 18-55 and it is going nowhere, even if I do purchase the 16-50, at least for the foreseeable future. As for the X-T50, huge pass….the price point, the lack of weather sealing, the same battery, and 1 card slot, all pretty much kill any interest that I might have had in it. Truth be told, I am an X-TX and X-Pro fanboy and throw in the X-E lineup for good measure. The X-TXX lineup for whatever reason, never really intrigued me, I don't know why, perhaps I felt that I was not getting any real “bang for my bucks”. Now, Fuji… bring on the X-Pro 4, I am saving my pennies as we speak (I am getting the vibe that this is going to cost some serious mega-bucks).
In my opinion the X-T50 (in case the rumors are true) is too close to the X-T5 price and not worth it. They should have added the OIS and a faster card slot to the X-T30II package and sell it for 1100. I'm lucky I got the X-T30II in beautiful silver for 899. I guess the price for the X-T30II is getting up pretty quick. All in all I hope the rumors are not true, especially with this high price tag.
I hoped the X-T50 would have 40mp though would have settled for 26mp, weather sealing, IBIS, 2 slots would have been nice and still small and light around £1350. The perfect camera, except no manufacturer can build the perfect camera cos no one would buy anything else! :(
agree that xt50 without wr,old battery and one sd card slot only is really stupid for the price they are asking, its like they are asking more for the 40MPX as we dont really know all about the camera,i was hopping for a price just a bit more than xs20 but muc lower than xt5...like that people would have a choice between xs20 that can do very well video and xt50 that has 40 MPx for photo..as for the dial i wouldnt mind but since the price is way to high ill pass(hopping for a promotion or something). I have a sony a7 mark3 with lens for 1500e,full frame camera so dont know...and im sure we can find xt( used for much less now
I think the X-T50 will flop. So much it doesn't change and a big increase in cost. Not for me without weather sealing. A secondhand X-T5 possibly or just stick to my X-H1 when it's wet.
I think that the 40MP sensor on the X-T50 is a mistake because that sensor doesn't work that well on the X-T5 and I think that is because it doesn't have the faster electronics that is on the X-H2.
I would skip the X-T50 and buy the X-T5. The cost of the two cameras is similar, so go with the X-T5. The X-T5 is not a Big camera, therefore I see no real advantage to the X-T50. Save your money and wait for the X-Pro 4 if you want something different than the X-T5. I have many Fujifilm cameras and I dearly love my X-T1. The X-T1 gets the job done for my casual photography needs.
Then i would get another XT5. Only 200 Euro more and you dont have to buy an extra handgrip. Plus you only have one Battery size you can switch easy. 1500 Euro is much too much for a non weather sealed camera anyway…
@@GMOsev3n you make some good points but it’d be better to have two different body types. Sometimes you don’t want the bigger form factor. The only valid argument that has no response is the fact that batteries are different
I’ll stick with my XT5! Makes absolutely no sense to buy a camera that isn’t weather sealed, has an old battery and no second SD card! For a few dollars more you can get the better XT5!
I think Fuji really missed the boat on this one, they are spending too much time listening to tik tokers. The film sim dial is a gimmick. Fear not Fuji, you won’t build enough to meet demand from the influenced. Oh yeah, this cameras price is insane. I would take the xs20 over this loser any day and yes I know there’s a megapixel difference but 26mp is more than enough for 90% of the users. My aged xpro3 produces great large prints with its 26mp. Or just go buy a Sony a6700, good color science, lots of lens options and it’s actually in stock. You’ll end up with a camera that’s also light years ahead of Fuji’s AF.
