@@HauntFreak13 It just makes it a bit jarring. The Phantom looming behind the bride, however, I like. Him in the window was less menacing, but now he's right up on her, about to pounce.
No, sorry.... but a lot of those people were talking loudly throughout the entire ride intro and stretching room scene. Often times people will “shhhh” you in the U.S. I think this might be a function of culture. Heck, I get mad if anyone even talks with the narrator (lip syncs) in the stretching room :/ Honestly just STFU.
My mom told me that he was a good actor. Next time you ⌚ "The 💕Boat", please recognize the late actor's appearance as a magician named The Amazing Almanzo who's actually referred to as Wendall Mordan (character's real name) from the episode, "🚢Of Ghouls" that aired on 📺 in the '70s.
Personally I think this change is for the better. While the old soundtrack is great, I personally thought it didn't really work well in those scenes. You could barely even hear the pipe organ in the original score.
@@spinlok3943 What are you talking about? The original score a theatrical piece very carefully crafted together, only to be chopped at the best parts and jointed with the american soundtrack which doesn't go at all with this because it was composed to go with other arrangements!
The upsides: 1. The story feels more wholesome and made more sense now 2. Love all the new arts created for this refurbishment! (I love the portrait of Henry and Melanie in the beginning that morphs into The Phantom and The Bride; Melanie looks very beautiful in that green dress in the stretching room - she just looks beautiful in general and the new artworks make it clear) 3. The foyer scene is ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING 4. Effects have improved 5. Vincent Price = Legend!!! Downside: 1. The THM music in the ballroom scene (I agree what most people have said about it so far). Hope that they change the music back to the original Phantom Manor soundtrack!
With the switch of the soundtrack it feels more like Haunted Mansion but overall with the brilliant new effects it's looks so awesome... excuse me I mean Ghoulish
Looks great! Love the slight changes and love the english/french story telling now. Cannot wait to go back and see it for myself. Thanks for the video!
Okay, so I don’t like most of the changes. Particularly the use of the American Haunted Mansion sounds in the hallway, the Music being changed to regular hm music in the Leota’s chamber and the ballroom. I liked the old zombie phantom in the canyon better. But I like the first half from the foyer to the load hall. Doesn’t matter how badly they’ve messed it up though. I’m still gonna fulfill my childhood dream of going on this ride one day. Seriously though, did they need to put the phantom behind her in the endless corridor, or move his position in the ballroom and make him a static figure?
I got it! In The changing portraits, the storm is occurring INSIDE the paintings. And since they all take place outside it makes sense. I say clever on there part. The only beef I have is that they took out the beautiful ballroom music. Please put it back Disney. Don't fix what is not broken
Wish the video was a bit clearer in some areas but from what I’ve seen the improvements on this ride are awesome! Not that it needed any. The only thing I miss is the Bride beckoning you at the beginning
Some of these changes are actually really good! I love that the Phantom at the end is the classic Skeleton in a trenchcoat, instead of the decomposing zombie it used to be. I love that the mayor moves his mouth when he speaks. I love how the Phantom Animatronic is much more alive and terrifying. I love how the Bride vanishes from the portraits before they stretch. And of course, the return of Vincent Price's voice, even giving us lines that I'd never heard before! However. The music lifted directly from the Haunted Mansion is very jarring. As much as I love that music, it just doesn't belong in this situation. Also, where was that crystal cavern with the Bride's dead body, giving us one last warning? Did they remove that scene entirely? Why? Finally, why swap the Phantom for the Bride as the Hitchhiking Ghost? Not to mention, having the Phantom BEHIND the Doom Buggy instead of inside it is much creepier, because you can't actually look to see if he's really there or not. Overall, this update? Mixed. Very, very mixed for me. Which is actually a vast improvement over recent projects the imagineers have done, where they're just flaw after flaw after flaw after flaw, and MAYBE a minuscule glimmer of light.
I'm kinda disappointed with this. They spent over a year for this?? Seriously? The haunted mansion music in the ballroom does not fit at all, and I honestly feel that the old paintings were better in the stretching room. The story is altered, which makes it less interesting and a little confusing for me. Also it looked better having the phantom loom over your doom buggy than Melanie sitting next to you at the end. Was really hoping for much better :/
i have...issues. bear something in mind, haunted mansion is my favorite ride of all time. shares a top spot with the e.t. adventure at universal (i know they’re totally different rides but because of sentimental reasons, you can’t make me pick between the two lol). so when i tell you i HATE the fact that they put the haunted mansion’s ballroom music here, that ought to say something. phantom manor has one of the most, if not the most gorgeous score of any theme park ride in the world. the way they made this simple, out-of-tune organ music into a bombastic waltz really made phantom manor feel unlike any haunted mansion before. to revert back to the normal haunted mansion music is really jarring, especially when they kept the majority of the score intact. also, it feels like they just added a lot more mannequins of the phantom, and really tried to scream “THE PHANTOM IS HENRY RAVENSWOOD” rather than letting riders come to that conclusion. everything story-wise is made a lot more obvious, as opposed to the aura of mystery the ride used to carry. and finally, really don’t like that they replaced the final decrepit phantom with the normal phantom. that last phantom made it scarier, we were in his realm and he’d show us his true form. and i don’t like how they made melanie into a constance-type character at the end there. oh and one more thing, they shouldn’t have had melanie sitting in the doombuggy with you, like the hitchhiking ghosts. it was so much scarier when it was the phantom looming over you, just out of your line of sight so it really sold that there could be something above you, as opposed to being able to see there’s nothing sitting next to you. i have very mixed feelings
I can see the reason for shoving the phantom in your face basically being because apparently guests don't want to have to figure out the story by themselves and just want to be given the story on a plate.
I love the foyer lighting effects and the new stretching portraits! Also, the precise lighting that makes people entering the doom buggies look like ghosts and the figure with the billowing veil on the stairs,. Then the bride "hitchhiking" at the end, intending you as her new spouse.

Visually, this looks absolutely stunning! However, I'm not too happy with inserting the HM music in the room with the piano and the ballroom especially. I don't think it really fits into the story
👌 The wallpaper changing 👌New Portraits 👌 Mealine standing in the loading area 👌Music in Stretching Room 👌 Colors & lighting 👌Updated animatronics (Mainly the phantom animatronic and the end of Thunder Mesa) 👌The Ghost Host voice in Thunder Mesa 👌 Mealine in the ballroom 👌 Updated Thunder Mesa 👌Mealine at the end (I can finally hold her hand)
ok im gonna list differences: bride on stairs where u get on the ride, the mirror bride looks into, the eyes of the laughing skull guy, photos in the first scene in elevator, head in the glass ball updated, colours more vibrant, bottles moving on their own at the end and the weird bride skeleton thing at the end has been removed
he was originally part of the ride but was taken out for some reason now they have him doing it in english and the guy who dubbed his movies in french doing the narration in french
First, the colors and texture made the ride really cool and frightening. Love the stretching room. Although, changing the séance room and the ballroom music to HM style is not well suited, it adds a nice tone change to the middle of the ride. Giving a little surprise to the spooky and dramatic atmosphere.
Getting to here Vincent Price's voice in the attraction again (Price-less and awesome), improved animatronics, enhanced visual effects .... definitely when will the right direction making sure you know the Ravenswood Family (the original name of this attraction was Ravenswood Manor)🖤🦇
It's quite nice to see the new and improved, Phantom Manor. Is it me or does it remind you a little bit of The Addams 👪🏠? You can see Old Melanie looking out the window on this spooky attraction. She used to be in the attic in the old version of this dark ride. My apologies for spoiling the magic and fantasy for you in the comment boards. 👍🏻 if you sadly agree with plenty of depression.
So they finally plugged in the old Vincent Price recordings they'd made for the attractions! They didn't do an especially great job with the new dialogue though, "IT APPEARS EVERYONE IS DOOMED IN PHANTOM MANOR!"--is sort of a "Hermione in the train" voice.
BlueRaccoon27 Well where to begin? Here’s a very long explanation: Vincent Price was a very well-known actor especially famous for his distinctive voice and roles in horror films. Toward the end of his life he did a few voices for Disney. One of the last recording sets he did was recording a full voice over for the planned “Phantom Manor.” But it wasn’t used for various reasons. And Phantom Manor opened without it. With this new version of the attraction, Disney has dusted off and used some of his recording! That’s Vincent Price’s narration in the foyer, stretching room and gallery. Which is neat! Imagineers decided to add something to the script that a Price hadn’t recorded-that line, “It appears everyone is doomed in Phantom Manor!” As Price is dead, they had some new actor record that line and they snuck it in. To me, that actor’s voice sounds very much not like Price’s especially famous one. Several years back, Universal Studios Florida opened Diagon Alley with two new attractions, “Escape from Gringotts” and “The Hogwarts Express.” Both of these attractions feature the character Hermione Granger. But Emma Watson, who played Hermione in the films was unwilling to record for Hermione at the time. Universal got a new actress to record Hermione’s voice, but (see the comments above) people really really dislike those recordings. So I’m saying that-to my hearing-the actor dubbing Vincent Price’s distinctive tones is just as bad as the Hermione voice’s replacement. The end. Another comment: Price recorded more lines than these: stuff for the hallway of doors, stuff for the ballroom. Stuff for Doom Buggy riding. I wonder why they didn’t use any of those bits as well.
@@hpotter29 I see. For a moment, I thought that really WAS Vincent Price saying the "everyone is doomed line". After it doesn't sound like very much like him when says "kindly step all the way in."
@@Crimson_Snake1 Not anymore. The original story has been changed over as ordinary guests didn't understand the narrative. In addition, this new story parallels Constance story (without the bride being the murderer of course)
@@Crimson_Snake1 Actually she isn't wandering anymore. In almost every scene she's in in the ride the phantom is "always behind her". Indicating her life have always been at the hands of her father especially who she marries. Foyer, endless hall, ballroom, boudoir shows this clearly.
Steve from accounting just so happens to be one of the most famous horror actors of all time. In fact, the maniacal laugh is Steve from accounting too. It always has been, since opening.
How is no one complaining about the change of her vanity mirror from the cobweb skulls to the phantom looking at her? The cobwebs in the shape of a skull was so poetic because it was her looking into her death but now they've completely changed it. The phantom didn't have to be looking at her through the vanity mirror.
Awesome they restored the Vincent Price narration to Phantom Manor, not to mention if you look at the altering gallery portraits, they added a new one. The one that finally shows who The Phantom really is! (although if you know the history of Phantom Manor then you already know who he is.)
Nice vid! All the new effects are actually amazing! Even tho I will miss the more mysterious and tragic old version I have to admit that the story makes more sense for new visitors. Will definetly miss the old music and old story but it is definetly an improvement PS: Made a short film in an old abandoned house similar to Phantom Manor if anyone interested ❤
Seems like Disney has 'updated' all the rides to include little more than state fair fun house type of cheesy/cartoony effects. What I loved about the re-refurb Haunted Mansion is that it had a realism about it ... it wasn't covered in black lights and fluorescent paint and while the characters were cartoon-ish, they didn't LOOK like plastic mannequins moving on motorized tracks. I think the rides are now visually a bit more 'stunning' now such as the giant video screen with the phantom bride at the start ... but they seem more like a series of things that you look at and then move on vs. being taken on a moving story ride in the way the original does. It feels more like the haunted houses you go in at state fairs vs. a unique experience. Less florescent purple and orange lights and more of a story are what's needed to bring back the realism.
The end's...kind of weird imo :/ Melanie's trying to get guests to be her new husband? But the whole point was that she was genuinely in love and was then kept in the manor and haunted by her father until she eventually died herself and was able to finally find peace. Why make Melanie...like this??? She wasn't malicious or crazy or anything. Well, she might've been driven crazy from the haunting, but it just feels weird.
When I was with great hope and joy again to see something of Phantom Manor was when I saw the Ride in the beginning very disappointed. Obviously Phantom Manor needs to be maintained as well, but the way some things have changed that just hurts my heart. And somehow I wish the old one back. That starts already in the foyer, where I miss the picture, the mirror, where öffters Melanie Ravenswood shows up. What I like to see the Melanie on the stairs when entering the Doombuggys. What I do not understand why suddenly the phantom is in the ballroom behind Melanie, I do not understand the meaning and what annoys me most and makes sad that the ghosts have disappeared, and suddenly Melanie partially accompanied the ride at the end of the ride. Also, how she speaks and laughs, that does not suit her and I think that was a part of the story destroyed. Nevertheless, I am and remain a fan of Phantom Manor and Melanie Ravenswood.
Wait...I was under the impression it was the same storyline. It’s not!! I’m confused cause the visuals aren’t strong enough to understand the new storyline help!
Basically the Phantom is Melanie's father, he is overprotective to a fault, and basically kills all of her 4 suitors, you can see that in the stretching room, basically Melanie grows old, dies and becomes a ghost waiting for somebody to marry her, even though we can see the Phantom behind her all the time so maybe that won't be that easy, at least that's what I get...
