Today we're highlighting a couple new items that we recently got in from Kujo Yardwear, Ballard Inc and Darwins Grip. We're finishing mowing a dozen lawns today and before we wrapped up, I wanted to share the latest and greatest from these guys.
This week has been pretty smooth, all things being said. We got a couple solid inches of rain both Tuesday and Wednesday night (1-2 inches), but thankfully we're on schedule to finish by Friday. We also have a nice little 3.5 yard mulch job that came in, which will help put the final touches on a good week of production.
This week didn't come with it's own issues though. We did have a busted tail light unfortunately, as well as some issues with the mowers. We got them all fixed up but downtime like this brutal when you're dodging rain drops!
How did your guys week go? Let us know in the comments down below! If you want to check out the items we talked about at the end, we'll have links down below.

Really appreciate these videos. Showing the gear and how you use it plus, watching your process! I wonder so often, "am I the only one that deals with this like u do?" And then see you doing it is helps me learn but also know that I'm not the only one that faces yard battles, like those tree roots you were trimming. Thanks brother!

We just plug our tires, run them till they won’t hold air. As a solo owner operator, I’m always on the truck so I do all the repairs. Yes I understand down time, but a plug is a nice banded till you buy your $100+ dollar mower tire. Also Brian you can order that size tire through michelin.

I absolutely love my tweels. Never have a flat it's great on the turf I see that I don't really tear up turf either. I'm never stuck great on hills and I have no complaints on it. Great tweels

Great video! I recommend 511 taclite pro pants and love them. They are fancy $50-$60 tactical cargo pants. With pouch for a magazine, ah hem I mean cell phone😂 . Plus tons of other great pockets. They stay cool and have a ton of color options. Tdu green is my go to, and absolute all time favorite. In fact i wear them all year long everyday in that color. I dont wear jeans anymore because these are 1 million times better. For boots I wear Carolina steel toe logging boots. Spruce model I believe. The hanes cool dri shirt is legit!! 100% polyester and its hands down the coolest (no pun intended) shirt I’ve tried. I rock the orange one. Blocks the sun and looks professional.

I use tire plugs for quick on-site repairs, and tire tubes for permanent repairs that will probably out last the mower. No tweels for me ever...I'm all about minimizing expenses and maximizing profits. It takes me no more than 5-10 minutes to plug a tire, or 15-30 minutes to put a tube in a tires. I'm running 2 severely dry rotted tires on my old mower and they don't leak a bit of air.

Oh yea!!!! I have the pants coming. I bought the tan pants. And did buy a 3 pack of Darwin Grips for the trimmers. WOW I almost forgot...... the TORO 52 inch has some electrical problems. So I bought a 54 inch Cub Cadet stander. The dealer had it as a demo, so I got 1600 dollars off the MSRP. It is soooo fast. I love it.

I would consider buying a new mower with tweels if it was an option but I’d have a hard time swapping out good tires and rims at that expense. Maybe waiting until you wear out the original tires is the way to go I don’t know. Plugging is just so quick and easy. I doubt we have enough downtime with flat drive tires to justify the cost.

If you can't afford the no flat tires yet they make a product call green slime. It is a liquid you put in your tires that won't let tires go flat with a small puncture like that. I run it in all 4 tires

Cool Video. I had to do the samething this season just a few days ago. New wheel for my riding mower that kept going flat and leveling the deck. We wear Dickies cargo pants black and tan here in VA. The sweat resist shirts like you guys where also. Our shoes are hiking boots from Bass pro. They are comfortable for going between lawn and pavement. Also, they are water proof. Keep grinding Brian and Crew from Brians Lawn Service here in VA.

I prefer the older design of the Darwin. That new one places the grip directly over the shaft. The older models have the 90 degree bend at the base which offsets the grip to the left or right. I have my grip offset all the way to the left .

While tweels are like $1200 and a good value for the price from what I've read, a good plug l it is under $50 and can be used on mower and vehicle tires. An under 5min repair that can be done by you or anyone of your employees without leaving a jobsite and driving anywhere to have a repair done.

You can buy a lot of tire plugs for the price of tweels. Even more when you do them yourself. So easy and you’re back to mowing in a few minutes vs running to the dealer. Holy roots Batman on that one lawn. That’s so annoying. Gotta sell them on a 40’ mulch ring.

@glslawnservices1905
@glslawnservices1905 2 года назад
Tweels look super awesome no doubt. I have never run them and probably never will and here is why.. 1200$ for Tweels when a flat tire takes me no more than 15 minutes to fix on-site. Time plus material to fix 25$ total per flat. If I have 1 flat a month for the 8 months we use machines here in Michigan the total cost for not running Tweels for 1 season is 200$. So it would be 6 years of flats or 48 total flat tires for me to just break even buying Tweels. In 6 years those Tweels will be needing replacement. So for someone who fixes flats on-site doesn't make sense to me. As a solo owner/operator it's a necessity to fix them on-site.
@BriansLawnMaintenance
@BriansLawnMaintenance 2 года назад
Sure, that math checks out. Now factor 2-3 employees on a crew, X $18-$24 an hour, times 2 hours (6 labor hours) to go to a shop and back to get them fixed. Also, factor in $225 a labor hour for production that each crew isn’t making per hour of down time ($550). In that example, Tweels or Tractus pay for them selves in 2-3 flats time. Oh, and our one Tractus has 650 hours on it now, literally looks brand new on the tread. (Regular tires are $300 a pop, and require an additional 2 hours to change out a tire at a shop). As you can see, the lines cross in less than a year. Just my .02! No skin in the game. But anyone who runs the numbers and gives them a fair shake will understand this. However, plugging your own tires is still a good skill to have 😎👊
@glslawnservices1905
@glslawnservices1905 2 года назад
Brian, if your 2-3 man crew could fix on-site, 2 guys continue working while 1 fixes the tire. No need to take a 3 man crew to the shop to have the tire plugged. Plugging a tire is an extremely simple task most of the time.. Plus, it comes in extremely handy in your personal life flat tires. I carry a plug kit and small air inflator in every vehicle. 3 weeks ago I fixed a Softball parents front tire in the parking lot of Armada High School in less than 15 minutes without having to take the tire off the vehicle. I have 700 and 500 hours on factory tires that look great. Hopefully they last 1200 hrs and then time to trade in the machine..
@BriansLawnMaintenance
@BriansLawnMaintenance 2 года назад
@@glslawnservices1905 I don’t disagree with plugging a tire, but think a little logically brother, half of your flats will not even be repairable. If it’s on the sidewalk, the tire is toast. Also, and not that I don’t believe you, but what tire is getting 500-700 hrs. I don’t know of any person getting more than 300 hours on a commercial tire especially with employees. Just the facts. 🤷‍♂️
@glslawnservices1905
@glslawnservices1905 2 года назад
@@BriansLawnMaintenance Employees are hard on equipment for sure but I currently don't have them. So I don't ride them like I stole it. 😆 I'm a firm believer if you treat the machine right it will treat you the same.. 35 -50 residential lawns for the last 4 seasons and not 1 flat tire. 🤞 I probably just jinxed myself though. I also don't pivot on client's driveway or side walks. Hard on tires and leaves black marks.. Side wall flats are a bummer.. I currently run 3 Ferris'. 2 stand on, and a ZTR.
