The original Gordie Howe Bridge Construction playlist:
• Gordie Howe Internatio...
Detroit, Michigan/Windsor, Ontario
The construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge is a major infrastructure project spanning both the United States and Canada. The bridge is named after Gordie Howe, a Canadian ice hockey player who was one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. The bridge connects Detroit, Michigan with Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
The project involves a significant workforce, including engineers, construction workers, project managers, environmental specialists, and various other professionals. These workers come from both sides of the border and collaborate to ensure the successful completion of the bridge.
Gordie Howe International Bridge facts:
Length
The bridge is about 1.5 miles long and will be one of the five longest bridges in North America when it's completed.
Design
The bridge is cable-stayed and has a main span of 0.53 miles, which is the longest of any cable-stayed bridge in North America. It also has the longest composite steel and concrete bridge deck of any cable-stayed bridge in the world.
Towers
The bridge's Canadian and US towers are each over 625 feet tall, but will eventually reach a height of 722 feet.
Bridge deck
Construction of the bridge deck began in December 2022 and was expected to be completed by the end of June 2024. The deck is made up of 54 segments, including a custom-built mid-span closure that takes four to six weeks to install.
Cables
The bridge has 216 stay cables, and all but 10 were installed by mid-June 2024.
Path
The bridge will have a 12-foot-wide path for pedestrians and cyclists, which will be the first legal way to cross the Detroit River on foot. The path will connect to local trails and streets on both sides of the bridge.
Connections
In the US, the bridge will connect to Interstate 75 with dedicated ramps, and 1.9 miles of the highway will be widened and rebuilt.

Those shots looking down the tower are really awesome - they really give a feel of the height. Also, I'd imagine by now the construction workers are pretty used to seeing your drone buzzing around!

I think I got it now… The precast deck panels are placed on top of the beams, leaving the studs we see on the beam tops, between the panels. Then the gaps between them all get concreted in, thus tying in the panels to each other and the beams. Must be the night crew that does the panel placement. Great drone flights ! 👏🤙

@SteveR59
@SteveR59 Месяц назад
There are vertical ladders in the towers. Within the two angled legs of each tower, upon reaching the top of a ladder, there is a platform and then the next ladder is offset. Ladders also take workers to the landings where where each stay cable is anchored. The towers also have elevators.

@michaelanthonyvideos
@michaelanthonyvideos Месяц назад
🙏 Thank you! I think that plastic pipe will protect it hopefully.
@SteveR59
@SteveR59 Месяц назад
The white HDPE pipe is a weather cover for the steel strands. The rings on the white pipe, spaced a foot apart, are to prevent ice from forming and potentially falling onto the bridge deck.
@paulavery366
@paulavery366 Месяц назад
@@SteveR59Thanks. I read that strand corrosion and failure has been a major problem on other cable stayed bridges. Various strand coatings have been tried and I wanted to know if any had been chosen for this bridge.

@SteveR59
@SteveR59 Месяц назад
@@michaelanthonyvideos I heard a long time ago, on another drone operator's video, that Canada insisted the Ambassador bridge had to be demoilished within 5 years of the opening of the GHIB. Then I heard a few months ago that repairs were made and the Ambassador bridge was brought back up to code, so now it will not have to be demolished. The Morouns certainly wil lose revenue, at least from the truckers who will be able to travel from Hwy 401 to I-75 without having to go through Windsor city streets.
