adam the moment the teferis protection was on the stack you should have sacked your two creatures that die to elesh norn into jahenni so that no creatures of you die with erebos on the field which would have menat that elesh norn would not have to be sacked which means joshs board dies to the noorn

Ugh looking back I see that this game could've been way better if Adam decided to sacrifice his creatures to yaheeni before the dictate of erabos hit the field, if he would've done this dictate wouldn't trigger a single time letting elesh stay and then have teferis protection go off and having all his creatures die.

This is a year late, but Craig also not used his Bounty agent since he only ended up having to sac one creature. There's a little bit of foresight needed for that, but Adam was definitely going to give Yaheeni indestructible.

Actually, I'm thinking that even with the Yahenni play, Craig still misplayed it: He should have sacrificed Aurelia, and kept Elesh Norn on the table -- that way, Josh phases back in, his stuff dies. It was an answer not given enough consideration.

Josh is an artist. He plays fast enough for it not to be annoying with all the complexity, and he really shows the full depth of magic. I think Commander is best enjoyed from the "stands", not at the table. "How much can Josh do in a turn?"

Knowledgable players like Josh are actually pretty common. The problem is that he seems to have lots more experience than opponents he faces in Game Knights. Which often skews games in his favour. Take a look at one of their earliest episodes with Kessler. He's just as much a player and a deckbuilder as Josh, and watching someone like them play off each other is more fun that having Josh artfully stomp the unsuspecting table "in style".

At 35:40, Adam could have sacrificed his zombie token to Yahenni prior to Dictate of Erebos resolving, then when Elesh Norn resolved none of his creatures would die, meaning no Dictate of Erebos trigger. When Josh pashed back in, his creatures would die.

Rule of Game Knights I think everyone should follow: No matter how behind or ahead he is, Always Finish Off Josh First. Cuz if you don't, he could just combo off later and potentially win the game or if not, make everyone miserable. Good game though.

Made the Boros deck discard all of his hand, the Golgari deck gets mana screwed and the Dimir deck did practically nothing. I know this is how some games go but man was it hard to watch.

to be fair, the golgari player was facilitating some of that. He knows elesh norn is going to wipe josh's board and that josh has the most threatening board on the field. So, what does he do? he flashes in dictate and basically screwed the elesh norn play up. when the guy with the best engine is online, maybe hold off on making powermoves (especially when you've been mana starved for a bit) and let the elesh norn do the work

I like games in which I can see each person’s deck in action rather than just the deck of one person working. For an episode dedicated to Ravnica, we didn’t get to see that many new cards because people couldn’t do much.

Sometimes you get bad beats. I've seen games where Karametra just runs everyone over. Though in all fairness, these guys seriously should be playing more boardwipes and removal. Command Zone's own content even suggests this in several episodes.

He almost lost it though to Elesh Norn. If it had properly landed, and Adam had not tried to milk some extra value out of it, Craig would have easily come back to kill Josh. Any board-wipe (which are generally pretty common in EDH) would have also been really bad for Josh.

It’s not even particularly powerful by counterspell standards it’s just the absolute surprise of playing a counter in a nonblue deck that makes it absolutely worth it. I also got a foil one from the mystery boosters so that’s in whatever white deck I like the most.

amazing how no one except josh played card draw, board wipes, or artifact/enchantment removal. spoiler alert, the guy who played card draw, board wipes and artifact/enchantment removal wins. and correct me if i'm wrong, but couldn't Adam have sacrificed all his creatures that would die to elesh norn to yahenni before norn resolves? then Craig would not have to sac elesh norn josh likely wouldnt be able to rebuild for several turns!!!

exactly my thoughts, if Adam would have sacced his 2/2 zombie to Yahenni, while Elesh Norn was on the stack, things would have gone way different ;)

They had 8 missed land drops in the most important stage of the game...even if they had those thing they wouldnt have been able to do anything.

zeth fox i dont think they would have eliminated josh if they had played that way, i just think that would have prevented him from doing his solitaire value engine for a turn or two, giving them time to do other things

@@michaelm.5148 You're not quite getting how crippling a mana screw is dude. Youre only doing 1 thing while your opponent is able to do 2 or 3. Difference in value and impact alone are enough to trounce what that one thing is. The only thing that wouldve saved everyone was a boardwipe. Truth be told I think Dimir player got a tad greedy tutoring for a land and not just going for the damnation I hope was in her deck...

i was recently introduced to Magic and I found this channel. i have been watching game knights everyday since all day from the playlist and I really liked how time was taken to explain the really complicated stack mechanic! I like this channel takes time to explain these complicated things (at least for a new player like me) because I really want to learn how to play Magic properly so I can continue to play with the friends who introduced me to it! i really wished the more recent videos did something similar to what was done in this episode, but these videos have been so fun to watch and so insightful! i cant wait to have a deck, or decks, of my own to use against my friends.

Forget the misplay, the entire time I watched, I was wondering; How on God's green one did nobody recognize that Paradise Mantle was the single most important card on the board. The only time Mantle wasn't the most important card on board was when it WASN'T ON THE BATTLEFIELD. Those tokens gave the lifelink to pad the Sylvan Library, those tokens used Mentor and Skullclamp to draw Josh cards, and those tokens powered the Gaea's Cradle from Ixilan (tm) that gave him mana to cast those cards. and Quest for Renewal allowed Josh to make tokens on everyone else's turn. The only reason Josh was ever able to make those tokens was thanks to Paradise Mantle. Without it, Josh would have had to attack to get his commander tapped, which on a board where his commander would die if blocked would have never happened. Even if he survived to get Reconnaissance, he would still have had to use lands to pay for Mentor of the Meek and would have been limited to one token per turn. Still great value, but Reconnaissance was still many turns out and without any way to put pressure on the board it's entirely possible Craig could have steamrolled him before he got there. The longer Josh had access to these things (Read: the longer Josh had access to Paradise Mantle and by extension free tokens), the worse it got for our protagonists, and it's not like nobody had an answer for it either, Bounty Agent was on the board for nearly half the game! Craig could have zapped Paradise Mantle on turn 4 or 5 and saved everyone a massive L. Hell, even after it had done work, getting rid of is still advantageous because, without a way to make tokens, eventually Josh would have run out of tokens, either from clamping them trying to draw cards or losing them to combat. Paradise Mantle was the MVP of this game, without a doubt.

Seriously, why does no one learn? You never make a deal with Josh. He's slippery, and only does deals if he's buying time to win. I don't care about repercussions. He needs to die first or else he will dominate the board. He did the same in Dominaria's brawl episode, manipulating the Izzet player to win uncontested.

There's a rule in EDH politics wherein how the deal gets introduced is 90% of the deal itself. Anyone who starts negotiations with "so you wanna cut a deal" isnt looking to deal, they're looking to survive something. The best deals are the ones that start with "So what do you need to do X?" *on their turn.* My monoblue control deck does it all the time. "What do you need to swing into this person? Alright, they're bounced..." All I could think when craig was trying to get infect damage into josh was "A good boomerang would do work here and make an ally for as long as you need to win."

Not a big fan of this episode. Felt like a game of archenemy. Really wish the decks were more balanced. Still a great episode with great people. Just wish the power levels were more in sync.

I wouldn't say this time it was because of lack of balance, but rather this is how certain games go sometimes. Someone gets their engine going and the others just don't draw the cards they need to disrupt it/have dead draws for too long

@@treycuret nah man at 8 missed drops thats just awful to watch... These are the guys that give us lessons on how to play and how to act... This would be something i see Josh saying "2 players missing 4 lands each is jist not fun offer a restart" To say just play it out is awful, i would not put my friends through this...turn 10 stalled at 4 lands each on the other side of the table... That's when you scope and shuffle.

It's multiplayer, so you always have some odd decisions. Not sure why Adam would attack Olivia just because "he cant get to Josh". Threat assessment should tell him he needs her in the game as long as possible in order to break down Josh's board state... Reminds me of a game we played last week. The mono red Neheb player got down Godo and some powerful equipment and then threatened to go infinite attack steps, but luckily the blue player and I cast two instants to hold off the combo buying us another turn. The mono red player still ended the turn with a 30 point fireball to me and the blue player because we stopped his combo, killing the blue player in the process before passing the turn. The 4th player then takes his turn by swinging his hydra into me for lethal just because," Neheb could block him" and he killed me... Now unbeknownst to him, I had an instant card in hand to give the hydra double strike that could have killed Mono Red player if he attacked in. That probably would have given the green player the win the following turn as I was at top deck mode at that point and he still had 30+ life... But nope, I died and the Mono Red player went infinite next turn... /shrug.

Kinda a let down in this episode. The politics were weird, Josh was the only one to get any kind of engine going, and omg ALL THE MISSED LAND DROPS. At that point, just start over and give your fans an enjoyable game that isn't so one sided. Got my hopes up for a new episode... not a one sided bloodfest. :(

These games and coordination and time frame to do these are really difficult to setup. Unless you'd rather not have a Guilds of Ravnica episode, this is what you get. Games of magic happen like this all the time. In all honesty, it wasn't a terrible game. I would've preferred to see better play in reference to the commander choices. Etrada and Izoni were really strange choices. Lazaav as commander probably would've played better.

Couldn't Adam just sac anything that would of died to Elesh before Elesh resolves but after dictate with Yaheni, meaning Elesh hits the table with no dictate triggers and wipes Joshs board next turn.

Gameplay mistakes happen. I wonder if they could have just replayed and re-filmed that one part so that Elesh Norn actually succeeded vs. Josh. That would lead to a more interesting game.

Wow, those extra convenient circumstances with the dictate really made Josh spiral out. Proof you need more removal / wipes so you could cut out that crazy card draw. After that play and especially w/ reconnaisance (i think needs a rules change) it looked super unfair for the table

Damnation is 4 mana yet nobody had that and wrath of god makes no sense in craig's deck. I think the real winner was deckbuilding mistakes here.
