The person Screamin Eagle kits are for is the person who bought a brand new bike, wants all the parts under financing, and comes with a full factory warranty. If you no longer have a warranty then yeah go aftermarket. On a brand new bike voiding your warranty with aftermarket performance parts is straight dumb.
@@Deaddriftbum I've got Vance & Hines short shots with a Wood Knight Prowler 22x cam installed by my local Harley dealer, all covered under the "warranty forever." In writing. Im also making right at 110hp with over 120ft/lbs torque, all for around $1500. The 131 is cool, but it isn't as cool as what they want for it.
@@Deaddriftbum There are plenty of third party warranties that cover aftermarket components. I bought one for 2k that lasts 5 years for my new 2020 roadglide that i have a bunch of motorwork done to. My buddy has one with his 208 bike that has a 124 that makes 140HP. The compensator broke several times and the clutch basket broke. Was all covered by the aftermarket warranty even though it is not Harley parts. The only stipulation is that the aftermarket parts have to be installed by a licensed mechanic or dealer and the cam can’t be over .600 lift.
Check out a Wood Knight Prowler 22x cam. I've got one in my 20 Breakout. 110hp with over 120ft/lbs torque. It will scare you. Far cheaper than this kit and it's covered under the warranty.
@@MattLaidlaw I made the move from Suckramento to Texas almost 8 yrs ago. You're right, CA offers great roads for adventures not seen anywhere else. Depending where you go in Texas, there are plenty places to ride...just different scenery. Oh..we also have 131 kits and Freedom lol
Been thinking about leaving commiefornia for awhile now. I just want to take the weather with me. Also want to leave the top speed limit off HDs. To get a 131 and have it limited at ~108 here is bs.
Definitely a crated 131 H-D engine for me. Although I must do more research on it. Seems like top notch power to me. Gotta find out if I can handle it in my little shop, could be confusing attachments. Crate engine wins ✅
Have talked to numerous dealers about doing a 131 crate or 128 and they have all told me to avoid the 131. 128 is said to be fine. Cylinder walls are too thin on the 131 and the base of the cylinder sleeves are cracking or breaking off completely on bikes with only a few thousand miles.
Apparently that is a problem plagued by speed shops boring out the cylinder sleeves way before Harley came out with their big bore kits. That's the first I heard about it with the Harley big bore kits.
...or, rather than buying a $30k + bike and spending another 10 to 15 thousand more you could just buy a low-milage late dyna/dresser Twin Cam from some Joe who always buys the latest factory nonsense and put an S&S 143 in it. Get it rebuilt by a good shop who can refine the engine to make over 150 bhp/torque, whilst doing other up-grades and you get a bike that'll leave an M8 for dead and ISN"T the same as everyone else's bike.... Yeah so you don't get a warranty that way but it seems the only bikes needing that warranty are the poorly built H-D factory bikes that are assembled in the USA from badly made parts probably from China ........
Here come the trolls hahah. Those Seismic rims look great and I like the initial look of those Rizoma mirrors. I'll have to see them in person. Keep up the good work brother!
Freaking ridiculous! Spend $25,000 a new Harley but then spend another $5000+ mods. No wonder why Harley Davidson is going out of business- their factory bikes stink
Dear Matt, I have a roadking special 114 2021 with jakell and hides , I am struggling with choosing between 122 and 131 kit ? what is the best ? I want faster acceleration from 60 mph to 90 mph
I’m checking the status of the SE kits with the German TÜV. No way to get third party parts through I’d bet so it’s SE or nothing. If SE is approved then I’ll order a low rider s with full SE stage IV and trade in good old Bob.
there use to be a time when increasing your engine size youd have to get a high performance clutch, is harley doing that at the factory now? those new wheels kick ass.
Heh Matt, I paid for a 131 stage Iv kit in Australia for my cvo limited 2020 , but it still hasn't come,,, we don't have restrictions on really what we buy here for warranty, nor any emission laws, nor the tuners we use,, I'm running a power vision tuner on my bike and supertrapp slip on stouts and catless headers,, I know the 131 kit comes with a 517 cam,, I want a torque cam option, and the American results on these kits are pretty low,,, Should I look for another cam, as I don't need top end revving, but I do want big torque and then horse power
I'd probably try the 131 kit with the default cam first and see how you like it. The 131 is still powerful even at the lower RPM. I will say you need to be careful with a aftermarket header pipe. We have had a lot of bad results with the M8 and hollowed out header pipes. You lose a lot of bottom end. Especially if it's a 2-1-2. We have better results with the stock header or a 2-1 pipe.
Yep no worries, will, see how the 517 cam goes, my headers although catless are supertrapp factory made, hopefully the dealer here and Dino can get some decent numbers in regards to torque at least
More power, more torque, yes beef things up, but still nothing from HD to complement this with increased stopping performance on models with single front disc brakes. Where's the twin disc conversion kit? And how about a rear brake on Softails that doesn't fade when hot and performs and feels as nice as those on touring models? Wouldn't that be nice? And you know what? A twin disc brake conversion kit don't need no EPA approval to delay things. BTW, if you are so keen to do adventure riding, for years, there have been fantastic bikes from BMW, Ducati and KTM available (tried and proven to be the best in the business), to me, it sounds more like you now getting into adventure bikes because 'it's a Harley'. Hah! Sorry, I don't buy it, just Laidlaw's way to market/sell the Harley product. How about doing a comparison of the 4 brands and letting us know which one is better/for what rider type? I personally know a handful of adventure bike riders, they don't give a damn about the 'Harley culture', they just want a bike that they are comfortable to ride, gets the job done and within their budget, they are not hung up on 'brand' (except the BMW rider). Unless the Panamerica outperforms the BMW/KTM on the dirt (including all the tech bits like electronic adjustable - on the fly adjustable suspension, ABS and riding modes), it will not sell in good numbers - and that's assuming HD doesn't price itself out of the market in the first instance. I hope the Panamerica is successful, but I am not confident about that.
That Fat Boy looks rad!!! Can't wait to ride the Pan American. Hope they make a mid size adventure one as well with like a 700cc displacement. *** If you are thinking about a 128/131 just want to relay that the engine and catalytic converter gets really, really hot. You don't want to be stuck on roads with a 30 mph limit or stop-n-go traffic. You definitely want to be moving when riding to cool that engine. The engine is meant to produce power between 3,500 - 6,000 rpms. If you don't ride like that, you are wasting your money. The M8 is supposedly designed to produce power in the upper RPM range and it's a TOTAL BLAST when you do.
Hey Matt. I just bought a 2020 Low Rider S at Emerald Coast Harley Davidson in Fort Walton Beach Florida. They had another 2020 Low Rider S on the floor that they just put a stage III 122 CI into with a fab28 pipe.
Hi, great video. I'm looking to purchase a new 114 next year and was happy with my choice until I seen this video and I am all confused now. Who is the 131 aimed at. I have no interest in getting my knee down, if I were I wouldn't be buying a fatboy. I want a bike that looks good, sounds great and has the pulling power to get me out of a jam quickly in overtaking for example. I was going to ask you what stage upgrade you would recommend for a brand new fatboy to get it sounding like a harley, deep sound but not so loud it sets of car alarms. Is the 131 something I should consider?
For all of you saying you are gonna but it. Stop lying lmao. You raid the comments demanding 131 and now that it's out where u guys at? I'm expecting soooo many youtube videos of u guys showing them off lol I'll wait.
Personally I would just get the T143, and buy an older model Harley bagger and drop that engine in it and still pay half of what this Bull S*** costs, Matt is the typical salesman, sell you a bunch of bs cause that is all he has been taught
Do you know why HD says the Stage III and Stage IV will not fit a Trike when it's the exact same engine as any other touring motorcycle? Thanks for all your informative videos.
Wow that Fatboy! Nicest one yet. Is that 2 tone denim a new color this year? Those wheels look like HD took a page from Indian and turned the tables copying their wheel on their elite model. HD took it up a notch though.
Hey Matt, I have a 2019 slim with a gen 1 stage 4. I would like to get the engine up to 128ci. Can I just get the bigger jugs and pistons and keep the gen 1 heads?
Love those wheels in the graphite. Matt are you able to install these kits on motorcycles outside of California or are you not allowed to install them on any bike since you are located in California?
There are substantial differences between the 114/117ci Stage III and the 119/122ci Stage III. First of course the bore. - 114/117ci: 4.075" - 119/122ci: 4.155" - 128/131ci: 4.310" Second, the cam: - 114/117ci: 0.492 lift (Stage III cam, requires swapping valve springs) - 119/122ci: 0.447 lift (Stage II Torque cam, stock valve springs) - 114/117ci: 0.515 lift (Stage IV cam, stronger valve springs included in ported heads) - 128/131ci: 0.517 lift (Stage IV cam, stronger valve springs included in ported heads) The 119/122ci Stage III produces more low end torque, the 114/117ci Stage III more high end horsepower. I would say the 119/122ci build is the better choice of the two Stage III versions, despite the tamer camshaft. The 119/122ci Stage III kit costs $100 more than the 114/117ci, but is easier to build since the valve springs don't need replacing, so labor should be cheaper. Depending on the hourly rate, a 119/122ci build could actually be cheaper in the end than a 114/117ci Stage III. Peak numbers on oil cooled touring bikes (according to H-D): 114ci Stage III: 118 ft-lb / 107 hp 117ci Stage III: 120 ft-lb / 108 hp 119ci Stage III: 122 ft-lb / 103 hp 122ci Stage III: 126 ft-lb / 105 hp 114ci Stage IV: 114 ft-lb / 120 hp 117ci Stage IV: 115 ft-lb / 123 hp 128ci Stage IV: 126 ft-lb / 121 hp 131ci Stage IV: 131 ft-lb / 121 hp I should note that the shape of the torque curve is more important than the peak numbers.
The stage 3 kits were designed with the 498 cam to compliment the power objective and higher 11-1 compression pistons. When the 119/122 came out they kept the 11-1 pistons but downgraded the cam. I wonder if it’s because with the cam designed for it you can get 95 percent of the performance at less than 50 percent of the parts & labor cost of the cash cow stage 4. Just substitute the 447 cam & springs for the 498 cam & springs. My stage 3 107 to 114 made 116HP. On the 119/122 it should fully utilize the stock heads & injectors and produce around 120HP 130TQ ie nearly that of the stage 4 kits.
Legitimate question here Matt: Correct me if I am wrong, but when you purchase a genuine HD part from a dealer and have it dealer installed it comes with a 12 month warranty, unless done within 60 days of bike purchase in which case you get the factory warranty coverage. If someone is past their factory warranty period, and has chosen to do a non-EPA compliant tune or exhaust, this would void a powertrain warranty if they still had one. So would upgrading to a Stage 3 or Stage 4 on the same bike no longer have any warranty on those new parts due to the system flagging your ECU? Thanks for the great content as always!
Matt, thank you for your review. Question with stage 3 upgrade for 114 m8 low rider s, you stated that kit cones with exhaust pipe in this package and i want to know if i can use existing pipe i currently have( s&s 2-1 50 state legal pipe) when this stage 3 for softail available?
I just ordered the 131 kit for my 2018 114 Heritage. just waiting for it to come in. cant wait. i live in florida so no problem. also got the S&S 2 into 1 with the race muffler. also went with a heavier clutch piece. should be cool to see how it feels. was so glad when they came out with the softail kit. the badging on it looks so cool. looking forward to it. ugggh on California. shesssh.
I don’t have enough experience with those to really comment to be honest. What I do know is they void warranty and aren’t R&D’ed by Harley-Davidson. The screamin’ Eagle stuff is nice, lots of power, warranty friendly, add value to your bike for resell purposes, and recognized by Harley Davidson. Those reasons alone all take the H-D genuine stuff every time.
Matt, you don’t mention Long Way Up with Ewan McGregor who uses the live wire for adventure touring ... going to be a great series, watching them ride up to LA...
I have a 2019 Sport Glide. On the Harley Website, it shows the 119 stage 3 kit fits my bike. So it might not just be for touring...or the website is wrong
@@MattLaidlaw I also own a 2019 FLSB Sport Glide. I just checked on Harley Davidson's website for parts that fit my bike and the 107 to 119 stage 3 kit shows up as a fit for my bike.
@@MattLaidlaw yeah, just look up parts for a 2019 Sport Glide, go under the Screamin Eagle tab and you'll find the 119. It got me real excited hoping it's true
@@MattLaidlaw Yeah sounds like it's really only the pipes that are the problem, there's no other reason I can think of; maybe can do it with a new pipe system? Let us know when you find out. Cheers, Matt
Matt Laidlaw the engines are the same right? I would say they’d fit. I saw guys putting the 131 in their softails before the “new” stage 4’s came out. PS thank you so much for teaching me so much. I started in a dealership a year ago not knowing very much about the new stuff, so I watched your videos for hours everyday. When I left I was considered one of the more knowledgeable guys in the building!
If you look at the Q&A section for the kit, someone from Harley responded and stated it was an error on their end by allowing it to pop when you search with a softail. You would think they would fix it already. It definitely still comes up when I search with my FXFBS. Same goes for the stage IV. That pops up on the search for me even though it does not apply.
@@simonhouel1984 The breakout, FXDR, and the deluxe are discontinued. Also no more CVO's are being produced the rest of this year. I work at a dealership in GA.
Kenneth Wise, "California emissions" has been around at least thirty years. This didn't happen over night. It's called "feel good politics" Even the parts that we buy in the rest of the country has that stupid California prop. warning. (This product is known to cause cancer in the state of California) It's kind of funny. All of the new automotive/motorcycle trends seem to come from the left coast.
@@PanM8 Still, damn shame... I wouldn't live in a place where you have dumb ass rules and restrictions of that nature. How much is a gallon of that special California has nowadays?
As soon as I start working again, I'm getting a road glide limited for sure. And I'll upgrade that engine to the stage 4. It gives me goose bumps just thinking of the rides. BTW I'm on a ninja 1000 right now.
Yesterday I bought a 2020 road glide limited and I was disappointed... Please read... Harley Davidson bikes are purely American heritage and the shock that surprised me is that 2020 or maybe the older Harley bikes are manufactured in Indian factories for Asia and I expect also to Europe. I do not underestimate India, but..... from my point of view you cannot enjoy Swiss cheese which is made in China or a French perfumes which are made in Taiwan. If I did know that the bikes are (MADE IN INDIA) I will never throw $33k on it. Maybe for less but not that much... In the end this remains my personal view.
It looks like they removed a bunch of timing from the stage 4 cam. The one they had earlier had no bottom end and the top was questionable. At least they offer something that's usable like the Zippers performance 124 Sleeper kit that makes 130 and 150tq to the tire. Not EPA compliant of course.
