What a thing of beauty and comparative simplicity ! Many thanks for the detailed exposition. It immediately answered two concerns I had raised with dealers in the UK but got no clarity from. The first concerned weather sealing on lenses and the body. The dealers didn't know - perhaps because they don't have a copy yet. It appears that the system can now be used like the GFX for outdoor and mountain photography. The second concerned the customisable nature of moving the single AF point. Shooting landscape I don't mind that there is just one point. This video has allayed my concern about a cumbersome and silly system of only using the touch screen to adjust position when using the EVF. It appears I will be fine to use the command dials but it is still far less convenient than a decent joy stick as per SL2. Loud applause to Hasselblad for putting the higher magnification and higher resolution EVF in. Completely retrograde of Fuji to equip the 100s with the noticeably inferior version. I had the 100 and enjoyed its EVF far more than the low res bunged into the 100S. If you don't use the lCD for most framing and composition or checking the EVF quality is important. Is the experience of looking through this eVF comparable to the superb implementation in SL2 ? The new lenses once again look like wonderful instruments.
I love your videos . Some of the best most comprehensive info on the different cameras. The most informative I have ever seen. You mentioned a screen protector in this video. I am wondering what protector you use for your screen protector. Thanks for the great sharing of you knowledge .
Thanks a lot Math for a very nice introduction video. I was patiently waiting for this video to come out. Could you please inform us more on AF, specifically the AF speed. How it is compared to GFX 100S? It would be even amazing if you could make a dedicated comparison video of X2D 100C against the GFX 100S. BTW, as you mentioned, X2D does not have Eye AF or any kind of focus tracking for now, however this might change in near future with a firmware update, at least this is what the rumors are saying :)
Your insight is much appreciated. As I have invested in a number of XCD lenses (5) I would really appreciate - i) how they perform on the X2D and ii) IQ 'old' vs 'new' lenses (does one have to invest in the new lenses in order to have the full benefit of the X2D - short of focusing speed perhaps). Lastly still no auto iso in M ? all the best
Nice in depth preview, looking forward your next video about that x2d. Highly desirable medium format camera. According Karl Taylor review focus tracking is to be expected in future firmware updates.
Thank you for this video! I would LOVE to see more videos on this X2D. Also hope to see more samples w/the new 38mm XCD V lens & the 90mm XCD V lens (when it becomes available). Finally, I just ordered an X2D & the new 38 mm XCD lens from Hasselblad (will definitely take it w/me when I go to Paris & Barcelona next month ;) I hope to get to Switzerland one day--it looks absolutely beautiful there!
@@mathphotographerI used to have a neighbor who would go on and on about how if he could live anywhere he'd pick Switzerland (so naturally I'm intrigued!). Thank you so much for the upcoming videos.
Dear Matt - nic video. How would you compare the sharpness on hand holding between this camera and the gfx100s? I would be interested to know as I noted high failure rate on the gfx100s
Hi Math, would you care to make a video on-using the Nikon SB700 or similar with the X2D. The confusing is caused by Nikons clever flash settings and metering modes. Basically I would like to underexpose the ambient exposure in Manual exposure mode by about 2 stops and not have that ever changed by any of Nikons optional settings unless I change it on purpose. It appears that depending on your camera metering mode you could end up using Standard TTL or TTL -BL which both want to interfere with the ambient exposure which is not what I want to happen. Once my ambient is fixed, I now wish to add TTL flash to expose my subjects face correctly, this is the method I use for my Sony cameras and Godox speedlights. Which method of On camera TTL flash do I choose, also which X2D metering mode do I use ? Apparently the X2D metering mode dictates the whether I use Standard TTL or TTL-BL, I am so confused and many others like me, can you please help? I do wish hasselblad could use Godox flash and not use 😮Nikons complicated system. Regards Michael
I think they made them primarily new for matching the new Phase Detection AF. The former XCD lenses can all resolve 100MP easily, I am sure but will try out.
Thanks for sharing, I will love to see the AF system workin in the real world, I know it's not your bead and butter, but if you could include people it will be great, if not, just showing it will be great. Thanks.
hello. thank you very much for the amazing review , can you tell me if it is possible to shoot in raw but with lower resolution? does the camera have a raw small? thanks
I checked it again, and you are absolutely right, Stephan. I made a comment yesterday in the infobox below the video: the 90mm will have 1/4000sec, the other too have 1/2000sec.
Beautiful video, thank you! Would love to see you use your Hasselblad zoom lens on this new body and your reactions/experience. From quality of pics to practical use of hand holding re weight etc. Thank you again!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Great video!! -> My main question was the older xcd 35-70 and you did that. Does that zoom have a rubber gasket (sorry to ask if you covered this in a prior video, but don't recall it coming up)? I assume you can set the front trigger area ring to aperture and the rear to shutter and then do perhaps auto ISO? I like to shoot "manual" in this manner.... May I ask you to please do some example photos with that zoom? Do you have a L bracket that will work with the camera. I use L brackets to protect the body more than anything else to be honest....to not worry...
Thanks Jeffrey, so many questions :) I use L-brackets sometimes but not on the X2D yet, so will have to watch out for that. I am happy to shoot the X2D with older XCD lenses like the XCD 35-75 and posting them then on the channel. The XCD 35-75 has a rubber sealing on the mount side like all XCD lenses. The X1D system and the X2D system are fully weather sealed.
@@mathphotographer Super thank you. I ask because I am leaning toward the zoom and x2d and that will have to be my main unit/kit for a while given the costs. Perhaps 24m before another lens can be obtained...so I wanted to make sure I'd be happy. Have an xpro3 now and just want better image quality.
The X2D looks stunning! I lust for one. I don’t know if it’s such a bad thing it doesn’t have video. Video would have meant a more cluttered design and it seems the rolling shutter is quite severe on that 100mp sensor. Not everything has to be hybrid and nobody would dream of complaining about an Arri cinema camera not being able to shoot stills.
Its a camera for stills for sure - MF video was a bit foa miss due to its high res and as you say rolling shutter artefacts - not having to have the heatsink for video is prob how they freed up space for a 1tb internal memory??? Although unclear on that as long exposure might use same power???
Hi Math I am interested to purchase a Camera for travel and street photographers I am a beginner I interested is Leica Q3 or M10R and now I see yr video reviews on this Hasselblad X2D 100 so I need yr recommendation because you try both camera Leica Q3 and X2D 100 which is better image and easy to use functionality, hope ur advice and recommendations can make me decide to choose the right camera. After I finish viewing this video I notice the X2D Don’t provide video recording except the old X system X1D|| did the X1D|| have upgrade the firmware or software . and for yr info I looking for camera with video recording .Tks you
1,700 megabits per second? That's 1,700 Mbps or Mb/s. As there are 8 bits in a byte this equals 212.5 megabytes per second or 212.5 MB/s. Those cards really can do 1,700 MB/s. Megabytes. The snake in the grass is that read speed is meaningless when we're shooting. And, 2nd snake, write speed on the card's label can only be sustained during short bursts. So, when a card's speed might throttle the camera, then we need to figure out the sustained minim write speed for sequential data (files are so large we need to look at sequential). As this Hassy has an SSD, this all may be less relevant, until you shoot the card as backup and the camera does a kind of RAID 1.
Is it just me, but Hasselblad dropping video features like this is an idiotic decision? Leica did that too with the Leica M10, and already back then i was furious about that. If you have a modern BSI-CMOS sensor, why would you intentionally cripple it like that. You don't need video? Fine, just don't use it. But now we don't really even have the choice. X2D is beautiful camera, but I admit I'd be little upset for giving up the video like this. Just my 0.02€.
I see a lot of mathphotographer videos, chiefly those relating to Hasselblad X2D and X1Dii as well as Leica M and Leica Q. I very much look forward to a video on Hasselblad 907x 50c camera .... ! As the moniker would suggest, these videos are clinically precise. The videos also tend to judge a camera or lens on its own merits, seldom drawing a direct comparison with another brand. All of that is for the good. But sometimes, not having the variety that our friend mathphotographer has, whether a particular camera is preferable to another with similar specs though vastly different prices. Or to put the question in a rather pedestrian fashion: how much is one paying for the brand, and is it wholly or partially worth it in terms of quality of construction and reliability in use?
hmm, the IBIS is not locked when it is off? Hasselblad should update the firmware to lock the IBIS when off to prevent vibration during transport. There were reports of other camera brands without IBIS locked having issues that had to be repaired.
I bought the XD2 and 3.5/45XCD in march and after 3 months I have screen burn in on EVF of the info display. Also seems like heavy vignetting. Anyone else have these issues?
Can someone share what is the difference between the AF point "Small" & "Large" and which one to select when shooting between portraits/glamour and nature/landscapes?
Hands up all those people who knew about this and were waiting for THIS review and this review only? As an X1Dii and 907x wedding and portrait pro I am truly excited
I hope Hasselblad doesn't take long to release the successor of the 907x. I know they have limited resources, even with. DJI help, but it will be great. Many people just love going out with the 907 as a creative triggering machine.
@@jaimeduncan6167 I will have two X1D2's eventually but won't pull that trigger until I can replace the 907x as well - wedding shooter here - in the Bridal Boudoir, or bedroom on the day the 907 is king - as it is just so small - I have a specially adapted Hasselblad hood for it replete with a Hass badge on the front - looks cools as mustard - I also adapted the finder optic bracket as a mount for a strobe commander -be warned you can get it stuck!!!! All epic stuff - but coming down from 100mp Fuji GFX100 was not an easy move - going back up with Hass will be!!!!
You mention that you would a longer teach video on the 100c and possibly one on the tricks you can do with it. I cannot find them on You Tube though I was sure I saw and commented ecstatically on it. Patrick
I bought a Hasselblad 500C in 1965 and used it successfully for a number of years..... have not been interested in more recent models until this X2D 100c was announced... ordered it instantly....
Hello, how do you think this system compares to the phase one iq4 150 in terms of perceptive resolution and sharpness. Is the phase one really THAT much better?
Here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wD3An09hmjU.html. I hope it helps, but the difference in price is so wide, it's difficult to compare them, and the X2D is not going to help you with film for example.
Phase One IQ4 is unbeatable in terms of sharpness and image quality, nothing comes close. But the price tag for an IQ4 is 50k - also an unbeatable price tag ;)
what the F..... its looks amazing , just now thinking to buy the canon r5c ...but now ....i start thinking , to wait .....! du ist aus deutschland right :) , super nice review !!!!!!!!
I just received my X2D and the 55v….. the lens is loose and rocks left to right… Hasselblad thinks it’s normal and we should just except this. It just infuriates me. They made a good camera and sell defective lenses, it just doesn’t make any sense!
Thanks for the excellent video! Would love to see a tips and tricks video. I have the X2D and 38V on order. I didn't feel compelled to get the 55V because it's fairly close in focal length to the 38V and with the crop ability of the X2D I think I can make do with the 38mm (and pick up the 90V when it becomes available). Did you see any performance difference between the 38V and the 55V? Regarding the electronic shutter, I had read that the rolling shutter effect is lessened when you shoot in 14 v. 16 bit mode. Wonder if there is any truth to that? Last question - you seemed to have gotten nice depth of field shooting at f/8 with the the 55mm in the first panorama you show - can you let us know where your focus point was? Thanks!!
Maybe they will have a video function variation model with kess megapixel abd less rolling shutter like other camera manufraturers? That explain the microphone holes at the frobt of the camera abd also seem like too empty on the side opening doors which can fit in some headphone and microphone jacks?
with the controls/ Set mode to A then the front control;;er changes aperture. Its wort mentioning that the rear wheel will change the shutter speed under some circumstances. Its something to look at when you do your full review. 🙏
in A the rear wheel cycles 40 30 20 --- I was also in Auto ISO. I wonder if the shutter control is to give additional control when the exposure is wrong??
Great video which I enjoyed watching waiting for my X2D to arrive and I wanted to say I am also using a 1TB Compact B card without problems from Integral - Ultima Pro X - keep the videos coming
Ian Morison: Just to say that increasing the number of pixels from 50 to 100 Megapixels only increase the resolution by a factor of ~ root 2 = 1,412 not times 2, It depend on the pixel size which is reduced by about 1.4 - from 5.3 microns down to 3.76 microns . (Ratio is 1.409)
You forgot to mention one of the biggest features: the EVF has x1.0 magnification, this is absolutely gorgeous. Also, we really have to wait for the Eye-AF to be released and how fast it will be. Now that we have so much megapixels in those cameras, the quality of the image depends a lot on lenses and AF performance. This is even more true since megapixels is not an issue for landscape or anything still: I can use my fullframe camera and a tripod and make a 1000Mp image if I want to.
Another wonderful look at the camera...it's funny the fact that this is a Sony sensor..makes you think...Fuji should has been in their own lane when it comes to "medium format" and "aps-c" for a long time..but in the sense if Sony wanted to go "after them" in the medium format game..they absolutely can and this "sensor" shows that they have the tech if they wanted to..but maybe the body design is still getting worked on if or when they will ever make a Sony Medium Format Camera..in my opinion maybe they should..because lets say some Sony photographers want to move up to "Medium Format" and if there no choice inside the Sony line..people will jump to Fuji for that need...business wise your going to lose some people in that sense, why not keep them in the Sony "camp" and have that "Medium Format" line...Fuji is probably not worried for now..but they know Sony maybe developing something in the future..I hope they do..
Around 25:30, the HxD models have a feature called True Focus, does the X2D have such a feature? IMHO, nothing can compete the joystick, except an excellent working face and eye detection 😌
So I will not be able to use the main selling point of this camera compared to its predecessor (phase detect AF) with my old XCD Lenses? Biggest let down ever from Hasselblad. fatal flaw
I noticed by now that when I shoot older XCD lenses on the X2D that autofocus speed improved. I will post next weeks a video where I shoot a bunch of older XCD lenses on the X2D and test how they perform and play together.
I would like to have you confirm what happens when you are in manual focusing mode and set the focus to a certain distance per the focusing distance scale and then turn off the camera. When you turn it on again, I’m assuming that the camera stays in the same manual focus distance position? I’m also assuming that the new lenses have a manual focusing “hard stop”, otherwise the first question - for the camera to turn on and off and maintain the same focal distance - would not be possible? Thank you.
Why they don’t make a span adapter that come with pogo pin to identify the lens and some connection deceive to see if the lens is focusing( make the view finder get x3/x6 view just like some Sony camera)
Awesome, thank you so much! We know the read-out on the sensor is the same as GFX 100s, and without a mechanical shutter the results will be just like the X1D II when adapting lenses, which is only useful for static scenes. Would love if you have any older XCD lenses to test AF, or if you could even show a bit more on 35-75 AF performance. Perhaps one of the older, slower generation of XCD lenses like the 80 1.9 / 65 2.8..? I'm curious to see how the improvement is when racking focus from minimum to infinity. Have you heard anything about how a cable release is supposed to work with no microphone port?
I believe they want you to use Phocus mobile 2 to do cable release via the USB-C port. That is probably superior. The X1D has a different implementation than the X1DII and the remote shutter release was a bit strange. I have done a ton of testing. I think they tried to use some aspects of the headphone jack to make the remote shutter release and I bet it had to be implemented differently with each mechanical jack and headphone chip. (X1D required like 500 Ohms and X1DII required like 10 Ohms to trigger the shutter.) Also, having used the headphone jack for timelapses with the Pluto trigger on the X1D I can tell you it is strangely unreliable. (1 out of 100 shots simply doesn’t trigger)
Thank you for your excellent review. Do you believe that a future firmware upgrade will incorporate the ibis system to bring multi shot capability to the x2d?
I am more attracted to hassleblad than Fuji in terms of the design and its simplicity, and the leaf shutter is just an amazing thing, I have it on my Bronica GS1 and is perfect to damp the mirror slap or just use MLU or to sync flash. The only thing that blocks me for the moment is the price (need to sell a lot of my film and digital gear to get the camera and 2 lenses) and the fact that I just purchased a second hand D850 for half the price with only 450 shutter count !
Thank you for the review! Curious to see an upcoming face off with the gfx 100s. Any idea if Hasselblad is planning to introduce a multi shot feature as they do on their h6d? Greetings from Kanton SZ :)
Excellent presentation and Introduction to the H2d- c100. I was hesitant as to get it, I own the X1Dii-50C, but you sold me on the stabilization feature of this one.
I am curious to know if the 80mm 1.9 focus at the same speed on the x1dii and x2d? I am trying to decide between the 90v 2,5 which may be further delayed and the 80 1,9 hmmm
@@mathphotographer I will get one of the other but debating the relative more generally useful nature of the 80 fov vs the slightly more flattering fov of 90 mm considering that I am trying to replace the qualities of my GF 110
Hi Math. I was wondering when you would show us your X2D hehehehe. You should have a look at the review from Karl Taylor from 9 sept 2022 (Great guy, extreme good photographer) He had the camera for a while and does a great side by side comparison with his H6D 100. Thanks for sharing and a great weekend!!
Sony-Camera, Zeiss-Lens and Leica Filter. 🙂 Nice Review, thanks for that, Math. Now we are all waiting - remember, you promised us a mirrorless Leica S3 replacement. Greetings from Frankfurt - Andreas
Hmmm...wonder how this beast competes with the Fujifilm GFX? Yes, the X2D is a gem indeed, native lens option so so. 100m will eat into your CF cards like petrol pumped in your car. Never the less, another excellent review again Bro
Thanks John! You can directly focus the stars manually, switch magnification on and turn the focus ring towards far distance until stars become sharp points and are no longer blurry spheres ... did it many times, works well. All the best!
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO , A LOT OF INFORMATION AND WAS MOSTLY EASILY TO UNDERSTUD :) IN THE NEXT VIDEOS I HOPE YOU WILL SPEAK A BIT-SLOWLY . THANK YOU FOR SHARING :) I DID A THUMB-UP ABOUT THE VIDEO AND SUBSCRIBED TO THE CHANNEL :) THANK YOU FROM ISRAEL :)
