Yay! Finally a new video. You guys, we had so much fun editing this. We really hope you like it! Let us know what you think here in the comments. We are so sorrt this video did not get uploaded sooner, we had problems with storage so we couldn't upload and then we lost the video and had to somehow get the footage and editing back. So thank you for your patience as we struggled with technology! Hopefully this doesn't happen again and you guys don't go a month without a video. Thanks so much for watching! ❤
Ik this video's a bit older so excuse my late comment haha but I just find it so funny how all these burd broducts are so great for hermies but a lot of them are either useless or even somewhat dangerous for birds. Just a really interesting occurence. These commanies should rebrand their products!
My crabs are in love with their cork round. I have mine upright and they use it like the front door to all their little underground tunnels. Love putting moss in it too.
You know what would be fun? A monthly box that people order for their hermit crab. Just random items worth a certain amount and this gives the crabs new things all the time to discover and also gives the owner items they never thought of using
You guys are awesome! Love your food video! May I caution you on the bendy branch. I read somewhere due to crabbie picking it may be unsafe bc its gluey and foamy but I just heard on the video you are already aware and will be watching 😊 cant wait to see ur crabitat when its finished!
You can bake coco huts and wood at a low temp to sanitize it. It will kill all the ants and ant eggs. A lot of forums and blogs on hermit crabs have instructions on what temp and how long to bake the wood for! Luv ur channel btw
Thank you! From the research in our group, the advised to toss it because you can never be to sure! And re doing the tank isn’t the most pocket friendly job! We’d rather redo it one time and be sure the ants are gone, rather than have to redo it again if they come back! Just extra precautionary measures I guess! Thanks for enjoying our channel!
I had ant problems when I kept tarantulas in NorCal. Anything made from wood and natural fibers just bake it at 140F for 20-30 min and that'll destroy any egg without damaging the wood and fiber.
Love this idea! We have a few tricks that we use in our tanks! Currently, we have a video on our channel that showcases us creating a 3D background! This adds great climbing space and features a little ledge for food bowls ect. We will be working on this video for a future addition to out Chat Tat series! In the meantime check out the 3D background video!
If you can fit your wood items in your oven cook them at 350° F for 5-10 min and anything living in it will die. Just for future reference. I did it when my lizards got mites works like a charm. Make sure there's no plastic though.
@@CharliStar It depends how much. In my experience it almost always effectively kills it but with mould specifically it's difficult to remove everything from the wood even when it's dead
@@reddragon7622 Thankyou / it’s actually mushrooms that is my issue - the mushrooms aren’t growing from the items I made for the crabs - but they are close to them, so I guess the spores might have embedded themselves in the wood/cork/twine!? I have no idea about mushrooms, not sure how they attach to stuff.
Hello! Welcome to Crab Central Station! Here are a couple ideas for hanging your coconut hut: suction cups, command hook, hang from a climbing limb or structure using a zip tie.
I have a hermit crab and I had two but one died so I am planning on getting another one when I go in my vacation this year like I did with the one that is still alive and I was just wondering if you could use a natural bendable hamster bridge for the crabatat
Yes! As long as it is not made of unsafe materials. No dyes, metals, or unsafe woods. Here is a list of safe and unsafe woods: crabstreetjournal.org/blog/2014/02/18/safe-and-unsafe-wood/
I have a question! my hermet crab stays under the substrate by the heating pad and he barely comes out. when I take him out her goes right back. is he getting ready to molt or does he just need to eat foods to give him energy???
If your heat mat is on the bottom of your tank you need to turn it off. Your heat mat should be on the back of your tank. Your crab is probably going down for warmth, but if he/she molts on the heatmat, they can burn and die. The heat mat heats the air of the tank 75°F. The substrate should be 6" deep for them to molt in. You will need a closed lid so that the humidity can stay between 75-85%.
Hi there. I purchased the lizard lounger net last week and it already has mold growth starting on the bottom of it. Did you have this issue? I’m wondering if I should throw it out or try to get the mold off somehow. Do you have any advice? Thank you in advance 😊
I'm sorry you're having trouble with your lizard lounger. We have not had that problem with ours. Here are a couple suggestions. 1. Soak it in hermit crab safe salt water (i even sprinkle the salt on the net itself). I soak it over night, or 8-10 hours. Then bake it on the lowest setting until it is dry. 2. Hang it as far from the pools as possible. 3. Do not have it sitting on the sub at all. Use a wood structure or plant or some other climbing structure for them to get to the lounger. I use the little wood and rope ladders. I hope this helps!
Hello I ordered the cork round and I’m wondering if I should boil it before putting it in my crabitat. Same with the fluker bend a branches & natural wood ladder bridge. Thank you!
You can add it in right away or you can boil it. I wouldn’t boil the bend a branch because it has foam in it. With the bend a branch keep an eye on it, if it seems like your crabs are eating or pinching it you may want to take it out!
Crab Central Station oh ok thank you did you notice your crabs pinching at your bend a branch? And what about the wooden ladder bridge should I just put it in without boiling it?
Fairly new hermit crab mom here. I bought the lizard hang mats before and they end up molding pretty fast in the hermit crab tank. Do I need to boil all the mats, wood, coconut hut, rope bridges and dry them before I put them on the tank?
Yes, that seems to help. The best way to keep the lizard mats from molding is to hang them off the substrate, use a ladder to help them climb up. Hang them away from your water source, against the wall with the heat mat. Doing those few things have kept our mats mold free and lasting several years!
I love love love your videos they’re so cool to watch because I had two hermit crabs at home I already got them all their stuff but I don’t have all that they need
Three questions, I need your assistance with: 1. Are the plastic toys safe for the crabs? They won't try to eat it, I'm guessing. 2. How do I sanitize all of the new toys (i.e. coconut hut, cork, etc.)? 3. Could you, PLEASE tell me how you attach all of this stuff and hang it, etc. I'm trying to upgrade my son's tiny tank, for Christmas. But, I have NO idea how to set up any bridges or dangle-y toys for the crabs. The top of the tank is just a screen top, that I'm going to have to tape both sides of, to keep the moisture in and the gnats out. PLEASE, SEND HELP! Lol
Plastic toys are safe for crabs! You may find claw marks in them at that is just because they climb on them. They most likely aren’t going to eat it. If you see them try to eat a plastic toy, you can just take it out. For sanitizing, we bake any new wood or oven safe items on the lowest setting our oven has for a few hours. For plastic toys, you can just rinse them if you want to clean them. We love using tension rods that are wrapped in jute rope (so no metal is exposed) to hang things! They’re fantastic to loop things to the top of the tank and add dimension! If you want to keep gnats out and humidity in, a solid lid works best. You could put plexiglass on top to do that or buy an aquarium lid. If you do get gnats in your tank you can put some petroleum jelly on a paper plate and wave it in the tank to catch the gnats Let us know if you have any more questions ❤️
We are sorry to hear that! That happens sometimes. If you have the correct ratio of play sand to eco earth and your humidity is not super high there isn’t much you can change in your tank itself. You can try washing and soaking the lounger in salt water, sometimes that helps!
I would love to make different levels and make my tank more creative for my crabs, what do people use for making different levels and what can I use to hang things from in the tank?
We like using shower curtain rods to hang things! They can go from side to side and are perfect for hanging! Just wrap in a rope or safe material to cover the metal or silicone (with regular 100% silicone, not the mold free kind) the metal and it’s ready to use! Then you can hook things on and layer them up.
Crab Central Station shower curtain rod? Wouldn’t I have to cut a shower curtain rod down wouldn’t it be real long? I have a 55 gallon... can you show me an example of a picture of a shower rod you’ve used and give me an idea lol
You sure can. Check out our video on foraging goods. We talk you through how to sanitize items properly. We have tons of links in the description of that video of foraging things too.
Unfortunately we do not give away hermit crabs unless you live in our area and get approved! However, if you look up hermit crab adoption center on Facebook, they run a page that helps adopt hermit crabs out in your area. So if you are serious about getting some, they can help you out! Sorry for the late response, RU-vid held your comment as spam for some reason.
