Farmers Weekly's Oliver Mark and James Andrews put one of Massey Ferguson's leading four-cylinder tractors, the 6616, up against New Holland's T7, a popular six-potter. Full review appears in Farmers Weekly, 27 March 2015.
I own a New Holland and a Massey. Neither one of these tractors but I've been running both for years. These guys go out and drive a tractor for a couple of hours and now they have expert opinions. . Tractor performance and life are based on many factors. I've had good service from both and the reason why? It's because I take care of my shit. Preventive maintenance, service and not overloading them. Having someone to operate your equipment that knows what he's doing is the key to increased life and no down time.
I work at a NH/MF dealer and they both offer 3,4,6 cylinder engines MF offers a 7 cylinder as well and both brands offer small, medium and large frame tractors for different applications what you have here is a small frame 4 cyl 150hp vs a medium frame 150hp 6cyl tractor same HP meant for different applications A fair comparison to a T7 would have been a MF 7719 I think it would have been a lot better comparison and to be fair NH just made all their 6cyl T6 models except for the T6.180 all 4 cyl ... So a T6 could compare to the MF 6616 model .both are great brands I work on both
My first tractor to work with was a Massey Ferguson and I loved it until I got on a Ford tractor which had more horsepower and had power steering also. The first tractor I purchased for myself was a John Deere and it is great for what I do and since 2002 when I got it new the tractor have yet to be in the shop. If I was farming like those two tractors was designed for the 6 cylinder would be my choice with the plows they are pulling.
Im pretty sure this was not an equal competition. The T7 is a much heavier tractor than the 6600 series massey. Correct me if im wrong but they should be comparing the 7600 series from massey
What is the fuel consumption during this test? "Could have done with some more weight" = the test wasn't setup for an even comparison. Great production value, just need to nail down the format of the test IMO. Maybe DLG have the numbers?
NH wins hands down. Its much better for the job with its power and that interior is bog standard yet you still get much more for standard that others offer. Massey is equipped with more extras, thats why it looked better. NH improved has the best seats for comfort and you can get nicer displays inside.
Just like the tractor pull where two tractors are hooked together a tractor could have missed its traction some how and the other tractor wins . NEWHOLLAND FORD CASE best they ever made
I really don't understand what farmers weekly were doing when they conducted thus test, it's 2 completely different tractors from 2 different manufacturers, so basically threw the rule book on fair testing out before they even started. Using 2 NH or 2 massey would of been a better comparison
I appreciated the comparison. We're buying a new tractor and MF have been saying the 4cyl was the future. This video supported my scepticism. We'll buy a 6cyl. Thanks Farmers Weekly.
Massy Ferguson I absolutely love the massy Ferguson but like they said New Holland would be the one to go with if you want to do heavy cultivating but massy Ferguson is the one to do Hay work with
A bit stupid to compare those tractors as that New Holland is basic model of T7.185 and doesn't have any optional extras like that Massey. Nice video anyway!
+Kepuuu Massey talk is like talking to fend has it all and everything new holand and he tells you more at home there are 3 new holand t7 280 and 195 tvt but nothing to do, different worlds.
If either of them lads knew what they were on about they would realise that the massey is lighter... So ofcourse the new holland is getting better traction because it has the weight to put the power down
Jentrecx Swala I'm Kenyan too but in Australia, probably easier to go to a farm machinery outlet in Kenya and they will order one for you nd do all th paper work for you. I don't think you need to pay until it arrives
Jentrecx Swala They will tell you when you can have it. Moreover, I'm sure there are some already in Kenyan market already, if you are really serious and saying the truth about wanting to buy one you should know about places to get one in Kenya. They sell even bigger ones than these ones
Surprising that if they wee equal in hp and tongue you could feel the difference. I just upgraded from my 2010 4320 to a NX6010. Went from 48hp four cylinder to a 60hp 3 cylinder. I was worried at first but the kioti feels much more powerful to me than considering its only 12hp difference. I shopped all the tractors Massey and New Holland but found my nx6010 for price I could not pass up. Thank you for the video.
That depends, if one has a wider torque curve than the other, it'll feel "beefier", for a lack of better term. Torque matters immensely, in a tractor - It's almost more important than total power.
american new hollands are built in america because in new holland pa is where the emissions are built transmissions are built the whole tractor is built the eurpe tractors are made in basildon so new holland is american and european but there mainly built in the u.s.
Unprofessional comparison, bog standard spec NH v High spec MF, NH has a 1ton weight hanging all the way out off a front linkage(never mind the added weight of the 2 extra cylinders). Of course it's going to perform better. They obviously sourced the two machines from dealers without caring too much about the differences apart from the engine.
Why would they put a 4 banger in a tractor that large? I 6 cylinders were always the choice of farmers for heavy dirt work in all but the biggest center articulating tractors. The old IH used a V8 and the I6 was way better, then they conned ford who already had a great I6 diesel into buying them for their pickups. lol
