Cygnus the Swan Constellation, also sometimes called the Northern Cross (as an asterism), is a beautiful star pattern to find in the summer months. It is part of the summer triangle asterism. The bright star Deneb, along with Vega and Altair, are the three stars the make up the summer triangle. If you can identify these stars, you can find Cygnus this way. Cygnus also sits within the Milky Way Galaxy. Be sure to look for this brilliant constellation in the summer sky.

I love how this channel combines the mythology of the constellations with the science of the astronomical objects in them.

Thank you for your comment! I am first and foremost a scientist and teacher, and I love learning about the scientific aspects of the constellations. But I also enjoy exploring the stories of the stars. There are so many of them!

I started to learn about constellations since I was a kid and Cygnus is the first contellation that make me into constellations' mythology. And I still don't know why but I love reading about Cygnus constellation. I even use the word 'Cygnus' for my online name.

Sometimes I feel like creators might take this as an insult, but it's absolutely not. I fall asleep to these videos every night for the past few months...and they are great. I plan on doing it for a full year. I just pick a video on a constellation that is visible for whatever current month it is. You still learn a lot just hearing the audio. Between work, and the kids and family, I don't get much time for actual stargazing, so I have to do most virtually or with audio. It really helps you get the most out of those rare nights you can stay up and watch the stars though.

I’ve been drawn to Cygnus ever since the word “Cygnus” came to me clear as day during a meditation. Fun fact: The most advanced stellar civilizations come from Cygnus and Lyra

When I look at a live feed webcam for the different Volcano's and I always look to see what stars are out know I know what I have been seeing in some of them. The aurora borealis areas sometime's have a beautiful clear night and the stars actually twinkle. It's so cool to watch. Living in the city during my golden year's I didn't see very many stars. Only the brightest that shine through all those city lights. Thank you for educating me .

I just discovered your wonderful, informative RU-vid channel. I got a great view of Cygnus last night - amazing how many countless faint stars you can see scattered throughout this constellation when viewed through binoculars.

Thanks Janine. You're my on-call lecturer I can go to at anytime but I have to be careful not to nod off because your delivery is just so darn soothing🙂. At the intersection of the Northern Cross lays the star Sadr, Arabic for "chest." Around Sadr is an asterism shaped like a heart. Simply beautiful. "Canst thou bind the sweet influences of the Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion." Job 38:31 Indeed, keep looking up and may Heaven help us all. Peace.

Thanks for the video. How come your pictures are opposite of what my star wheels says? For example, on the star wheel deneb is east/right of the "wings", where in your video it is to the west/right?
@learnthesky
@learnthesky 3 года назад
Hello! My guess is that is may be a southern hemisphere wheel? Are you able to tell? Most have a label on which latitudes they are. It might also be the orientation of your map.

Good morning I was wondering if you can make a video on the constellation of Tree. I have a hard time to find a good credible info. Unless it doesn’t even exist.
@learnthesky
@learnthesky 2 года назад
I have not heard of that constellation. I follow the constellation patterns designated by the International Astronomical Union, which is what astronomers use. However, it is possible that constellation exists in some culture/place in the world. If it does exist, I am not aware of it. I will add it to my list and see if I can find anything.

My first time at your channel; a very worthwhile visit! What is your opinion of the red nova that is supposed to be visible in the north wing of Cygnus this year? Location is KIC 9832227, as reported by Dr Lawrence Molnar, according to the Voyager RU-vid channel. Certainly seems like something worth watching for this summer. Red nova or red herring?
@learnthesky
@learnthesky 2 года назад
I'm not sure. My thoughts are it would be hard to predict when a star goes supernova. Thank you for sharing, I'm going to try and learn more about this.
