It really needs like, 3 things max for it to be used more: more flashy moves, more damage, and some streamlining on the song system (not NEARLY as much as in Rise though). Not really expecting it to be top 5 or even top half really, but a bump in power and popularity would always be nice. I've seen the kind of love a weapon gets from Capcom when it's popular *cough**cough*Longsword*cough* and I'd love some of that to come our way sometime.

It cannot be ignored how many more people played Rise horn; it went from the least played weapon to somewhere in the middle.
@KPlaysHere
@KPlaysHere 3 месяца назад
It jumped usage rates from 1-2% in Iceborne to the 3rd most used weapon in the demo, then 9th a few months after Rise released, before settling at 3.6% usage (12th place overall , beating GL and Lance) by the end of Sunbreak. Over triple the Iceborne numbers, sure, but there were definitely a few factors that stopped it from being as popular as they initially expected.
@BarderBetterFasterStronger

I think it also can't be ignored how much the very passionate World HH community "did not enjoy" the Rise HH changes. I'm still not convinced the changes didn't literally boil down to screen UI issues. Or at least play a serious role in the decision.
@KPlaysHere
@KPlaysHere 3 месяца назад
@@BarderBetterFasterStrongerMost of the polling I've seen funnily enough has more people in favor of Rise HH than World's. What you can't get through those numbers though is how strongly people feel towards 1 version or the other, and imo with a niche weapon like HH the opinion of the more dedicated group kinda matters more than pulling in more numbers/new fans
@BarderBetterFasterStronger
@BarderBetterFasterStronger 3 месяца назад
@@KPlaysHere More dedicated is a good way to put it. I'm sure Rise HH did have a larger following and did poll better. A music analogy seems apt: I'm sure that today's pop music would probably poll better than something by Mozart or Bach. The argument for whether it's better comes down to the lens - are you trying to make something more deeply designed and therein niche or something simple that pleases the most people. I hope Capcom decides on the former.
@waraidako
@waraidako 3 месяца назад
It can absolutely be ignored. Making it less for HH fans and more for people who just want to hit stuff with big stick is taking away something from one part of the community to give something else to another part of the community. Problem is that this other part of the community already has literally every other weapon to pick from, whereas HH mains only have the one.

For me Hunting Horn was always a slow Weapon like Hammer and Greatsword, and while I dont think it has to be a slow/heavy weapon (MHGU had some very fast paced playstyles like Adept), I still want my fight to be focused around playing songs, like how in World (not Iceborne) the main DPS came from playig songs/ recitals. HH for me is a very methodical Weapon almost like a dance with the monster (In Rise the Hunter dances but not with the monster, if you know what I mean). Rise made the HH super fast and flashy but in doing that the focus on the Songs was lost. I hope to see a more Song focused Playstyle in WIlds again.
@KPlaysHere
@KPlaysHere 3 месяца назад
I like it with a bit of a faster pace. We already have a big heavy blunt club, so making HH heavy blunt club that plays music gives it juuuust a bit of an issue with having a totally unique identity. Not saying they're hard to tell apart, just that HH having a little more differences in gameplay/concept is good for it. World making recitals the main damage dealer did a good job of this. Personally though, I like how Iceborne and Sunbreak make it a 'fast' weapon with the added sound waves. That way you can have it not look like it swings all that quickly, but still put out a lot of hits. As long as the songs are still a focus, if they brought something like Echo Attack or Silkbind Shockwave in I'd be happy
@eolendes6432
@eolendes6432 3 месяца назад
I just want the recital to be fast. I don't want to have to run to the corner to even access the main part of my weapon. I don't mind having to queue songs, notes or having to play the songs. I just don't want the song play to be these lengthy long, immobile animations in a game where standing still is a death sentence.
@Omega-cy6fs
@Omega-cy6fs 3 месяца назад
@@eolendes6432 and that’s also something that I like about the HH. I understand how you feel because honestly, I get pretty annoyed when I’m interrupted whilst playing a song. However having this long animation makes it so much more rewarding when you can play a song in the middle of a fight without worrying that you’ll take damage. Thai was sort of what I meant with Worlds playstyle: if the monster was down the best DPS you could do was playing a song and then the recital. Iceborne changed it so that the echo attack is better and thus leaving no time for the important songs.
@eolendes6432
@eolendes6432 3 месяца назад
@@Omega-cy6fs My problem with world recitals is that the songs wouldn't last long enough to warrant this slow methodical approach. If your recital is slow and immobilie it would stand to reason that its damage would compensate for it. World's recitals, even with the blast waves did not deal that much damage (They dealt a lot of exhaust though, which was useless against elder dragons). Slow recitals also make corner dooting a justified strategy, which is not something you want to encourage.

Rise's HH was a bit of a double-edged sword for me. On the one hand, I liked that the weapon was made a little less cumbersome. But on the other I really disliked just how much of the weapon's utility and complexity was taken from it as a result. The way I interpret what they're saying is that World's HH is going to be used as the base-line for Wilds, which is something I'm glad to hear. Hopefully, they'll be able to bring us the utility of World's HH with some of the less cumbersome aspects of Rise's. That said, hoping that we still get to keep the breakdance recital move.
@KPlaysHere
@KPlaysHere 3 месяца назад
More like a no edged sword cuz HH is a blunt weapon, unless you count the pointy hilt :p Lol but yeah, I feel like if they'd stopped streamlining at a point much earlier than what we ultimately ended up with, we would've been perfectly fine. Like maybe somewhere around smoother moveset+same song mechanics. The complexity didn't need to be touched for them to do a lot of the things they ended up doing, and that's the main thing that caused backlash against the changes. And yeah, the breakdance dodge recital NEEDS to stay. It just feels too good not to have in our toolkit, and HH has almost never had any sort of defensive/evasive options besides regular dodge rolling. It's been in 2 games now so I'm optimistic

Its a bit bitter sweet for me. I liked the idea of the changes with rise HH being a kind of faster blunt weapon apposed to the slower hammer but i dont think that destroying an iconic weapons style is the right choice either. Reverting the changes could also give way for a diffrent kind of fast blunt weapon like the some fist weapons players have wanted for ages
@KPlaysHere
@KPlaysHere 3 месяца назад
I think they were onto something with the Echo Attack and later on Silkbind Shockwaves. If they want to keep HH feeling like a big weighty weapon, having single movements deal secondary hits with sound waves is a nice workaround for making a sort of 'fast slow weapon'. I personally like the idea of it being a little quicker in general (we don't have a true fast blunt weapon yet, it adds style, and it sets HH further apart from Hammer), but the after hit effect works too.
@kura100

I think reverting it to Worldborne HH is an excellent decision. Because Rise HH really removed a lot of what makes the HH fun and satisfying to learn + master. BUT, what they REALLY need to fix is to actually give a good MV for the hunting horn and make attack up XL melody a standard to all kinds of horns. Because attack up melody is holding the HH back and discourages you to run other hunting horns. Preferably the attack melody doesnt require a meter to build. Or hell, I somewhat kinda agree a bit with a few people mentioning that attack up should be removed entirely but i only see that working if the HH itself gets a huge MV buff with the loss of attack up. I would love to see the HH not being bottom DPS for once...

It was so baffling to take the beauty and satisfaction of Iceborne's HH and do... that to it in Rise. Really shows a disconnect between the devs and the community. Maybe the Japanese HH community isn't comparable to the Western HH community? It just doesn't make sense to me. The HH community makes so much cult dedicated content that I can't understand the snub for an entire "mainline" game. At least we're back, baby.
@KPlaysHere
@KPlaysHere 3 месяца назад
I really couldn't say what the thought process was there for sure. HH has been handled oddly every few games or so. The OG version was pretty darn clunky, then they streamlined it in 3rd gen which was very appreciated by the community. Maybe they thought they were doing the same thing in Rise? That team's games are usually where MH sees the most experimental additions. There were some good ideas in there, but then you get to totally unnecessary parts like gutting the song mechanics and it makes it hard to appreciate the full package. What I'm hoping is they take both the fan feedback and what they were originally aiming for in Rise back to the drawing board and cook us up something more fitting this time around.

All im asking for is 2 things, 1) keep risebreaks ability to draw the weapon without attacking, it's an amazing addition that was on an iteration of the hh that didn't need it aanymore. And 2) please no triple song queue. I don't like it, in a perfect world GU's double note mechanic would return in some form. @KPlaysHere
@KPlaysHere 3 месяца назад
#1 I'm almost 99% sure will be a thing. It's a feature I always thought was built specifically for old style song mechanics so it's weird it showed up in Rise like you said. No note combos to avoid messing up there. For #2, if they're saying that we're going back to World mechanics as a base, I'd probably expect the song queue at bare minimum. It was like, the main thing that was new to the weapon in World, and it allowed for a lot of different technical uses of the song system. Double notes, if I had to guess, didn't end up being a mechanic that stuck around because they could sometimes be just as much a punishment as they could be a useful tool. For every player that enjoyed flawlessly chaining together songs, there were others that cringed every time they accidentally missed a swing and had to start the song combo over from scratch.

i would guess they are going back to the old horn mostly because the game was being worked on after iceborne, so the team probably started with that as a base since rise wasn't even out yet. and again, the main issue is how, no matter what they added to bow or longsword as you mentioned, they still could be played in the same manner as previous games whereas HH was changed so drastically, the combo changes were all messed up to a point where it's practically a different weapon. i would also like to point out that that cool dodge you mentioned came from MHGU. in fact, almost all of the moves in rise were just ripped directly from GU so they could be returning just in a different context in MHwilds. either way, i hope HH feels good

Even though I play like 99.9% HH (I really only swap in niche cases like farming Kulve Taroth with LBG nowadays), I would be really interested to see which parts of the Switch Skill feature make it into Wilds for all weapons. Modified movesets were a really cool idea, but if it doesn't come back the question will be which moves make it into the new baseline movesets.

Worlds adittions to HH were already great all it needs is universal attack songs, slightly sped up recitals and better MV. Maybe removing the spin or integrating it better. Hated the changes in Rise but that's also just a universal Rise thing for me.

100% down for universal Attack Up. If they don't go with the idea I mentioned in my wishlist series (no more Attack Up in the normal song selection, Self Improvement gives damage buffs instead so every HH gets it) I hope they keep Infernal Melody in some way. All that really needed was a way for you to maintain the buff and it would've been perfect. Recital speed is the next thing I'd change if I had to cut my wishlist down to a bare minimum. The little dance in place animation is iconic, but the more streamlined and fast paced the games get the more that feels like an unnecessary break in the action. HH is a pretty light on its feet weapon when it comes to mobility, so it's weird to have it randomly slow to a halt for several seconds several times per hunt by design. And MVs? Definitely. HH has to be balanced for supportive abilities, yeah, but that doesn't mean that there isn't room for it to be able to do SOME more damage. I'm not saying top 5 in speedruns or anything, just not always dead last/2nd to last.

The one thing i really found i loved was... The way they changed Gunlance in Rise and sunbreak, I hope they hold onto that, I was a previous HH Main from World... Rise's HH didn't impress me so much, felt like I wasn't playing music or buffing anyone... just felt like it was a side thing to a normal weapon so I didn't enjoy it.... I'd imagine that they'd keep a lot of the GL changes (minus maybe some Switch Skill stuff). That's a weapon where the changes were mostly additive instead of replacements, and pretty much all well liked unlike the whole Heat Gauge thing from Gen. Rise HH comes off more like a super experimental redesign of the concept--they threw it out there, saw what stuck and what didn't, and now they're using that to go back to the drawing board

If you want to see what I'm talking about look up gaijin hunters covering of wilds in Japan. A vast majority of the players are happy that the doot stick is goin back to its roots. But there are those who are fighting tooth and nail wanting it to stay simple like in sunrise. I'm in the worldborne for camp but can appreciate the changes made, I just want that complexity back that's what made HH HH
@KPlaysHere
@KPlaysHere 3 месяца назад
Same here. I loved the smoothness and streamlining of Rise's Horn, but not necessarily the simplifying. Getting people to play a weapon by removing the things that they may not like kinda screws over the ones that were already playing it and liked those exact same things. No need to do that in a game with 13 other options to choose from; there's something there for everyone. If they're gonna redesign HH--or any weapon for that matter--it should be mainly to build and improve on the core concept. You start changing that and you may as well just go all in and start designing weapon #15 instead

Songs holding over between weapon swaps is a tricky situation... because on 1 hand, you're right, it would kinda screw over HH users if their teams lost buffs whenever they swapped. On the other though, there's a chance that HH could end up being underused as an actual weapon if you can just buff up and then swap to the weapon you actually intend to use

I've always been in the camp of not liking the Rise changes. I'm happy for those who found new enjoyment of Hunting Horn in Rise, but for me it didn't scratch the same itch anymore. It lost the strategic feeling of considering your every action beforehand to get the right songs and finding the right times to play them while dealing damage as well. To me, the old one made me feel like a tactician, while the new one felt like a whacking stick where songs just kinda happened in the background without me even paying attention to them, no thoughts. HOWEVER, I would absolutely like to see some of the moveset additions from Rise. I'd happily see the breakdancing dodge and the neutral draw back. And Online's running recitals would be a very welcome addition, allowing positioning adjustments mid-song. Overall, I would just love to see a more mobile and fluid Hunting Horn without the massive changes to the feel of the core gameplay with the songs.

Imo World was too complex and Rise nailed it, but Rise was too flat and World nailed it. They need to find a mix of streamlined gameplay like Rise where you didn't need to read a combo list for 5 minutes before every hunt after upgrading a weapon, but they need to make more combos than ll, hh, and lh. Some middle ground like for insect glaive every monster has all 3 zones that are usually in the same areas, but sometimes in different spots. My idea is I get you want endgame horns to have more buffs, but that's just impractical. I think it's best if there's a % bonus to things like atk up, but instead if strictly the player receiving the buff, it's half the % but you also get that % of the horns stats. That way a high attack horn might work better with something like dual blades and a high buff % horn would work with things like greatsword. I do understand you don't want a single AND multi-player game to rely on teammates that much, but it's the hunting horn. That's its identity, lean into it.

I recently started replaying World and I have some tweaks and additions to my comment. I think the musical side of the horn in World is just about perfect, the issue is the swings themselves. I think if they have all buttons doing the same animations and have the animations decided by input direction, the horn could be a lot more dynamic but also beginner friendly. Of course we'd lose some moves because there's only 4 directions, but some can't follow other moves anyway, so they can stay as "phase 2 moves" like the hilt stab. It makes HH easier to get into because you can memorize songs with one hand and swings with the other instead of worrying if your swing will mess up your song queue. But it stays dynamic sine you'd still have 5 main attacks (6 or 7 if you count the recital attacks). Also I don't think there's any weapon that's this dynamic and technically would have hundreds of combos since all notes can be in any order with all directions so it remains the most complex by far this way. Basically the big loss I can see from this is no more flourish from neutral, it would have to be a "phase 2" move, but I don't see why a phase 2 move couldn't follow another one so you could still flourish into stab. There's even room here for a left facing flourish.

@@KPlaysHere yeah, mechanically they need to stick with the encore system. I wouldn't mind having something like slide beat for focus mode and the dance move for some i-frames but it would need to be linked into a combo somehow similar to how longswords i-frames are linked to moves only accessible through combos.
