Ibanez has been selling their AZ model guitars for a few years now and I always lust after them hard. But now they have BUDGET MODELS! $300 for the hard tail and $320 for the tremolo model. Same great AZ neck shape and looks but with non roasted neck woods and build/hardware thats more appropriate for sub $500 guitars.

Not sure why I’m watching a video about beginner guitars, but the background setting is so beautiful I don’t want to turn it off. Love the blue and purple house and the tall grass. Beginners have so many great guitar choices now.

kinda wish squier bullets were string through, I have one that is surprisingly good aside from that, the high e saddle kinda wobbles around sometimes needs more downward pressure

@@Healcraft Suggestion. Stretch the high E string saddle spring out a teeny bit for more pressure to hold it in place ✌

@@Healcraft I had the same problem with a new Bullet Tele. Cheap saddles and the set screws would move around, too loose. After you get it adjusted where you want it put a little dab of clear nail polish on the set screws, they won't move on you then. Mine seems like the diameter of the set screws is 1 size too small. The culprit

Just as a note, the player series strats need the teflon tape tremolo fix as well, and they're like twice as much money.

Little screw holes are very important if you lower the saddles so low that the sharp screw heads poke up and catch your hand when palm muting etc..... I sometimes have to change to shorter screws.... Nut slots with a bit of a tight fit can be eased with the bit of guitar string you cut off. Just slacken the string to get the string out of the slot, and use the piece of string as a file - the nut material is usually soft enough. Only wound strings, obviously.......

Ibanez has them listed on their site now. That switching arrangement is pretty nifty, if you're a wiring nerd. It does everything but phase-reversal, yet that's still a lot of fancy-schmancy trickeration. I guess for home-modders, this saves having to hotrod your guitar. Also: Ryan, did you find the switch tip, or did you have to cough up the $3 for a new one?

I traded some gear for one of these yesterday; got the hard tail one in hideous ivory color. I was looking for a cheap tele to mod and the AZ caught my eye because it has birdseye all over the neck. The frets weren’t as rough as the Fenders and even though the bridge needed adjustment it felt good and stayed close to in tune. I polished the frets a bit, conditioned fret board, tightened screws and nuts, setup, and I’ve been playing for hours. Once the neck is worn in some it will look and feel beautiful Pups are decent or a little better. I’m going to upgrade the tuners and electronics and it’ll be perfect!

Nice axe by Ibanez, but not my first pick. I'm going for a Gio GRX70QA and still get coil split from the HSH pup config. If I really want that bright twang of a strat, I'll get the AZES40.

Few outside builders ever get the Fender Fiesta shade right; it's the only red shade I like on guitars, and it takes some careful mixing to achieve it.

Ryan, I have a fix for that wiggle stick.......I added a spring to the wiggle stick on my my Squire Strat. Mine is threaded in like the Ibenez and a pain to position. Its fixed now..I ordered some springs on Amazon that were sized perfectly to control the stick. They sent me 10 springs....I can provide a link if you are interested.

Hi Ryan, Ibanez say the ES has medium frets. You said it has jumbo. Are they noticeably lower or taller than you would find on something like, say, a modern Fender or Squier?

I have that Truest blue Azes40. It definitely punches above its weight and is just a fantastic playing and sounding guitar. Also still very much enjoying the Yamaha Pacifica you sent me. It definitely does a thing.

The fretboard is jatoba. I have a GSR206 with the same fretboard. I like it; it's more midrangey than rosewood.

This would seem to be directly in Fender's Squier ballpark, with more tonal options. But how do they compare to the GIO series? I own a great HSS strat-style GRG-140. The trem is fairly useless (FAT-10?) but I don't use it. Fretboard is New Zealand Pine/Resin, not the Jatoba that you have on these. But other than the additional tone switches on these AZs, does it justify the $150 price difference?

rattling trem arms happen even to fender strats that why fender sells these little spring to put in when you screw in the arm and it is much tighter.

Great video. They sound good but look like early Ibanez strat copies , at least the first one does. I do prefer the blue HSS model with the whammy. Question, how do you think these at $300-$325 compare to other budgets for even less, primarily a Harley Benton or a Firefly strat type! I mean the AZ essentials look like what they are, kind of beginner to midlevel player models, what do you think? THANKS!

That switch is what Gretsch players call THE MUD SWITCH! But what would you call that color? Traffic cone orange? I like the sound of these Ibanez AZ series guitars, so I ordered the second one you demo a few days ago from Sweetwater. I’ll be replacing the Jack plate with a REAL one if the plastic one has a problem. And I’ve been playing since before YOU were BORN! I bought the blue one for my guitar students who always want to make noise on my REAL Strat. Instead, I’ll be able to hand them the blue one you’re holding.

First and foremost you should know about the Ibanez AZES, that this is Vaporware. After the announcements on 31st August/1 September I ordered it immediately, but after several delays I was informed today by Thomann again, that it will still not be delivered before February 2022. Needless to say, I canceled my order. What a pity. Maybe in a year or two these will be really available.

They knocked this one out of the park. The guitar, the price. Add to that when you are on stage no one knows its a budget guitar. Unlike Fenders imitation Fender with the Squier warning sign. The true purpose of the Squier brand is to give players in the crowd at your gig a good snicker

How does a person not know how to tighten a nut on an output jack? I thought everything went to hell when nobody could change their own car’s oil anymore-I never expected there’d come a day when peop;e couldn’t even sort out how to operate a crescent wrench or a nut-driver bit.
