I'm on the market for another iceco. I have the go20 already and I love that thing. But need more room for food. For me it's between the jp50 pro and this one.
Thanks for keeping it real Matt! I wish an Iceco would fit u see my JTs tonneau cover. Bet I could find was a 34L that is 14.5” high. Just arrived today
Hmmm...Looks a lot like the ARB zero. Engel uses a completely diffrent style compressor. Just a electromagnet that bounces between two springs to push coolant. Snomaster and National Luna have their own compressor. Comparing a Iceco to a Engel, Snomaster or National Luna is assenine. Engels and National Luna have a pedigree of lasting years in Africa and Australia. There are Engels that are 40+ years old still running.
I recently purchased the VL60 ProS, and like almost everything about it. My only gripe is how you open it by ‘pushing’ the handle down, instead of‘ pulling’ the handle up. It’s a bit counterintuitive to me, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually. Otherwise, great fridge; it sits on the Goose Gear rear seat delete kit, as does my Anker 757 power supply, and I still have lots of room for more stuff! We have too much stuff…
Matt, another great video thanks for sharing. After owning both of these which would you recommend if you were just buying one? I do like the size of the VL75 Pro but I also like the smaller size and convince of the apl55. My thoughts are it's better to have more and have the space rather than needing it. Looking to purchase one of them soon, just up in the air.
I like the look of the jp50 pro also. I'm ready to pull the trigger on this one or the jp50 pro. Only thing about the jp50 pro I saw a review where he said the lid is cheap and finicky. Is that your experience as well?
@12:42 National Luna makes a dual zone 50L and a dual zone 60L. They are also Danfos and don't take up as much room. But significantly more expensive than iceco. I don't think you can beat ICECO's value.
Matt, What tray do you have that mounted to? I have been looking at this fridge and am pretty sure this is the one, but I have been looking at trays..and I like how yours looks.
It just depends on your rig and where you put the fridge. For my Gladiator I like this lid better than the side opening ones. It's easier for me to access.
Excellent video as always man! I do have a question tho.. can you stick a magnet to the side of it?? haha I ask because im curious if the iceco branded portable power bank that they released for the jppro units, will magnetically attach to this unit as well.
Yes! It can! I just watched a video about this model on ICECO official channel, it has a specialized panel for placing the magnetic power bank. Pretty cool!👍
The top only opens in that one direction correct? Or does it have the dual open like your 75 did? With that said - I like how you did the intro to the video. Creative and fun
It just opens from the front. You can have the soft closing hinge and it open both ways. I don't really see a need for it to open both ways since it opens from the front.
I was sold until you said the price, I have a lot of begging and honey do lists to perform. Ummm, where is your tent?????? Been researching cause I'm in the market and not completely sold on yours but seeing in this video, Sully is a little light in the hip area on those shots.
A fridge was one of the last pieces of overlanding gear I needed to get before starting out on my own adventures and I was about to spend the $1300 on the ICECO VL90, then I saw this video and I'm sold on this new fridge. Your gear reviews and recommendations have been a huge help to me thanks for doing them.
Man, somehow they made it look cheaper than the older models (which may not reflect on camera, could be better in person). The only thing I don’t like, it the rear opening lid. They hit the park w/ the lid that side opens and can flip sides depending on how your rig is situated
Stop doing these reviews 😂 I love our ARB, but now you made me buy this one.🤷♂️😂 But now we can keep the ARB in my wife’s 4Runner and put the bigger Iceco in my Land Cruiser
Drain holes? I have one of the iceco discontinued plastic models (looks like a yeti), and love the ability to rinse out and drain. Used it on a cross country trek with my Bluetti 500w power bank - great combo in my jk. I agree with your assessment about black vs silver or white… especially if exposed to sun. Bring back the desert sand color. LOL as always, great video. Thanks Matt!
Thanks as always for posting these videos which help all in our community. Wish industry would make more units that meet the height requirements to fit under our locking tonneau covers on the Gladiator. I know people travel differently, but I often stay in hotels and other places on trips where the bed is exposed to the elements or theft. If the fridge is too tall, I can't engage the tonneau cover. Lower the height below 17" and extend the length.
Not bad. I love iceco. I have a iceco vl60pro now from a dometic. Like the new features. Some kind of moly panel or replaceable Velcro sides would be a cool feature too.
HI MATT 👋 THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THE ICECO DOUBLE FRIDG / FREEZER . JUST ONE MORE THING I'VE BEEN LOOKING INTO & GETTING DOWN THE ROAD . ONE THING AT A TIME . BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! ENJOYED 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU 🙏
I've owned the 45 ltr Iceco for 3+ years, SECOP compressor, the unit uses so little power. It's a great fridge and perfect size. I've been contemplating the APL 55 for some time, this review is helpful with good information.
Thanks for the great review! I’m planning on getting a fridge for my Gladiator soon. How is this one holding up? Is it worth the price? Is the black finish holding up better/worse than you expected? Would you still recommend the silver over the black?
Thanks for this! Great review. Right down my alley with being in the rear of my Tacoma and having a family of 3 so that I have more freeze/fridge options for them. Now, to make the decision...😂
Thank you for this! Nice review. Answered all my questions. Contained a lot of useful information. And a discount code to boot. What is not to like. I need a dual for my field work and almost pulled the trigger on the Iceco VL75 dual, but it was so large! This fits much better in the back of my X and better meats my fridge/freeze needs. Reasonable size beats 2 lids in my opinion. Other gear needs stowing also.
I see a birthday present in my future! And it is available for pre-order now and ships April 8th per their website. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.
I just got a vl 60/65 iceco it’s got the very nice cover I’ve plugged it in and made sure it worked and all is good it took about 25 mins to get cold empty but it’s up at my office grid cabin I’m gonna give it a work out this weekend
I think this is going to be the fridge i go with. I definitely want a dual zone but i definitely don't want to go bigger than this one. I have found dual zones smaller than this but they seem to be ridiculously smaller and won't work for me. Everyone I've found talking on this fridge has nothing bad to say.
It’s a nice looking fridge. I still like my VL45pro s. The ability to open it from any side and remove top quickly is way better than this top. If they did that then I would really consider on changing mine out
What fridge slide is that? I recently bought one and didn’t realize Iceco has yet to make a slide for it. So if you could let me know what skid it sits on, I’d be very happy 😄
Looks great thanks for the review. Will put this at the top of the list when I finally decide to buy a fridge. Was thinking the black would absorb heat from the sun if not in a covered bed/or in a cover itself. Think that might make the fridge work harder to stay cool.
Interested in this. I currently own a Dometic CFX3 55im, about 3 years old, that has started giving me problems the the manufacturer hasn't been able to help with. I have a 2016 JKU and run the fridge on a Jackery 1000. I works great in a controlled environment, i.e. house or running vehicle. But last summer, I noticed when I would turn off and leave the vehicle, within an hour, the temperature inside the fridge would rise from 36 deg F to 45 - 50 deg F. Over Spring Break, it got as high as 70 deg F. My wife has dietary restrictions and I purchased this to keep her food cold, but of couse, as soon as the temperature is above 50 deg, she throws everything out, making this fridge useless to me. I guess I'm asking if this is a normal scenario that is to be expected with these refrigerators or should I expect these to stay at 36 deg F ( or at least below 40 deg F). Kind of upset with the Dometic...loved it at first, but at the price to only get 3 years out of it is disappointing. But, then again, am I expecting to much from these types of refridgerators. What are the highest temperatures you've seen on yours, both running vehicle and non running vehicle enclosed?
I watched one of your earlier video's where you pointed out a high clearance rear bumper with hitch relocate and spare tire mount. If you recall could you point me towards the manufacturer. Thank you, stay safe.
Have any of your fridges ever shut off in freezing temperatures when sitting in the back of your truck? I had 2 instances where mine shut down but I’m not sure if it was the fridge or my jackery got too cold
The Engel will outlast it. I have two MT45's. And I have a BEAST of a Snomaster 85L Expedition Series. I have it in my Peterbilt. I like Engels as a single cavity. Those combi's are a little eratic temperature wise on the fridge side. Cause it's just a bleed over design. Engels are expensive but they last forever. And are completely serviceable units. None of the cooling lines are impregnated into the insulation. So it is not a throwaway design. I love my Snomaster Expedition 85L. As far as true dual zones go I think they are the best. It's a power hungry ole girl. It'll pull 88w at times. But it cools way faster than any other 12v fridge I've ever seen. It'll run 58-63 hours on my Bluetti EB200 with the freezer set at 0 degree and the fridge set at 35 degrees.
I would say it's water resistant. It's been living in the back of my gladiator since I made this video running non stop in all weather conditions and it's been doing great!!
They need to send that to me for testing. I live in Southern AZ, and I went through 3 of the iceco vl75prod, probably too hot here for dual zones. After the 3rd, they sent out an old-school 50 & 30 instead. The 50 stays in my rig full time
Try to find a Snomaster Expedition series. Designed to be ran in ultra harsh environments. It's not as efficient as these others. My 85L will pull at times 88w. It's a BEAST. When it finally arrived and I picked it up I tested it in July at my aunts in Fresno Ca. For three days it was 111-115 degrees outside on her patio. It cycled like a normal fridge. Except it would pull 88w if it needed to. Typically seemed like 67-71w were normal. I set the fridge to 35 and the freezer to -8 degrees. And it froze the water jugs fast. I leave it set at 0 degrees now on the freezer side. It has lived a easy life in my Peterbilt now for a year and a half.
Great video. Thank you. I would love to chit chat with you about your electrical setup for the Gladiator. I have a double cab Tacoma that i want to buildout.I love your setup and want to possibly mimic your setup. As I will probably go with a bed rack and RTT etc. Anyway thanks for your time and reviews. Keep on keeping on.
