Thanks for the valuable info! Just one question: What's the difference between MPEG-4 and Fragmented? Both are the same file type, so I assume the only difference is in how the file's encoded? Is it true, or is there also a difference in quality?
MPEG-4 is the standard to encoding MP4 the difference would be the Fragmented process which allows to save the recorded part of the file as it records so if you computer was to crash you would still recover the MP4 file up until the crash time

av1 is currently the best format for 4K and HDR real-time video but in OBS it is still possible to record in fragmented MP4 with AV1 encoder, I haven't tested its quality though

Hello, I have a problem, when playing it in windows media player, the playback bar is blocked with that mp4 format fragmenting, why does it happen? It's normal? For now I use OBS to get game clips, thanks.
you are probably atomatically remuxing your videos once its finished recording because u used to use mkv before...make sure that automatic remux is off now that there is no need for mkv to mp4 remux.
Im using mkv because of that,afraid to loose a recording because of it,in fact,obs was like,stopping recording............................................................................................................................. and never ends!!!,so i normally kill obs task but the video will loose doing that,so i watched long time ago using mkv can maybe crash aswell sometimes but at least you don´t loose the recording. It will also lower the zize of the recording using that fragmented mp4? or is the same as using mkv?. Sorry for my english,grettings from argentina.
Fragmented MP4 is supposed to do do exactly what MKV does without needing to remux. If OBS crushed you would still have the recording saved up until where OBS crushed. Also the file size depends on the bit rate you set. Check out my video on the best settings for Recording using OBS and play with settings until you get a good balance between file size VS quality
@@LiveProductionTips mine its on 11000 kbps and i use 1080,you recommend me to use 8000? I have like 24tb but my internet sucks,like 10mb upload,but since my telephone line is broken i jabe those 50gb every 72 hours,if my phone line and my internet were woking i would mormally have only 1mb upload. They promise me about 2 anda half year 100mb but im still waiting haha.
