Hi! Would you be able to confirm something for me? I saw a sign that pointed left for First Class Elite and right for General Boarding. I'm flying First Class. Would I go to the left in this case? This is my first time flying Alaska and I'm not sure if "Elite" is a status of some sort and don't want to be rude. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide 😊

I recently took an Alaska 737-800. I originally hoped I'd get this interior but I happened to be on one of the newer ones with the full sky interior. Was a real surprise given how rare sky-interior -800s are in Alaska's fleet. As a bonus it was also in a special livery: "Pixar Pier"!

I am SO HAPPY you posted this as I am about to fly on this plane. I am a huge fan of your videos, especially your ALASKA videos. I was wondering what ALASKA was going to do after retiring the Airbus A321's. Thanks for the great videos and I hope you continue to post your ALASKA flights. Perhaps you could make a flight about getting upgrades on ALASKA??? :)

It's worth noting that Alaska's lounge policy has since changed since this video was made. It's now open to only Alaska lounge members and those with an itinerary covering 2,100 miles. No more first classes passengers are being let in.

I am disappointed that they didn't replace the FC seats with the new Recaro ones, but I do like the look of the retrofit. Is the padding improved with the new upholstery? While I like the old bulkhead with sculptured carpet, it's looking pretty tattered, so I'm OK with the new look. I agree that AlaskaAir's real strength is it's cabin crew. Very few disappointing crew members on AlaskaAir's team.

The first pictures I saw of the retrofit made it look like Alaska was moving towards American's horribly drab interior, but it is nice to see it in action and it is not as bad as American.

Alaska has always been very special to me so it is disappointing on their retrofitting by removing the old front of the cabin and replacing it with something very bland and away from the Alaska theme. The new seats are just going to show wear/dirt faster so I am not sure of their purpose. The mood lighting is fine and the food looked good just not enough of it. All things change but it seems their changing without much thought to keeping Alaska's spirit.

AS has a mileage requirement for the lounge? Well, that's disappointing, but its why I watch these types of vids, need that info before I travel. Got a trip booked, SEA-SAN, but upon further review, its only 1050 miles.

Do you think Alask didn't give the 737-800 a full retrofit because they don't have enough money after spending it on retrofitting the Airbuses that they are retiring?

Just a guess, but perhaps these 737-800's are near to retirement as the MAX's come in. Perhaps AS didn't want to spend the money on a full retrofit if the life of the current 800's are not long.

I cant imagine being in one of these aircraft on a long flight, for example, from the east coast to west coast which usually takes over 4 hours. No screens and horrible looking seats! How do people do it??

I preferred the MD-80 or whatever. With the engines mounted 100+ feet behind, 1st class was really like a magic carpet ride. The food choices in Alaska lounges currently are quite poor. They have the same tired, cold, chicken for weeks on end. Nothing hot except coffee. Marginal.

While on the subject of recently introduced configurations, do you have any plans to fly on Delta's ex-Lion Air 739 or United's retrofitted 767-400?

Ideally yes, unfortunately UA's 764 has been having a horrible on time performance, and very limited domestic turns. As for Delta' s Lion 739, im waiting a bit since the route it is currently operating is relatively expensive due to the high season.

I for one prefer full bulkheads, but I guess I am indifferent over the new dividers they installed, its better than nothing!

I recently flew on one of Alaska’s max 9’s in row 4 (last row of first class). I would have preferred a bulkhead divider; would have made me feel less uncomfortable about reclining all the way and getting into the space of the seat behind me

Why are you giving Alaska a pass on not having seatback screens. When reviewing American you act like they are Spirit airlines for not having seatback screens

Because Alaska never added screens then removed them from their aircraft citing "nobody uses them". Something american did! However, with my a320 retirement video, I will make sure I state how they took Virgin and basically destroyed them slowly, removing their fleet, their SFO hub, and some of their route network

My seat mate had asked for a cheese platter, he was told they ran out. Then the FA mentioned I had one pre-ordered (I pre-ordered it in economy and that transferred over when I got upgraded), so I offered it to him in exchange of some much needed protein.
