100% agree on that. I've mostly switched away from AA because of their pathetic LCC domestic cabins, even in F which i usually fly.

I've been waiting for the video! So happy to see it and can't wait to fly on it one day hopefully, looks beautiful and looks as if they changed the PSU on this plane which is so nice. Great vid!

Great video iTrip Report! I can’t wait to see these excellent new United “NEXT” cabins join the entire United narrow body fleet especially as many of their older A320ceo and 737NG fleets have very outdated interiors that just feel like they dare back the the late 1990s with no IFE screens and no other “expected” features from this decade! 😂🎉 I still have yet to fly United AT ALL so bear in mind all my opinions on this are based off of YT vids I’ve seen but the new NEXT cabins with IFE at every seat, ample power outlets, better looking (and hopefully more comfy seats 💺) and just a newer classier looking feel (especially in First Class) look great and I’d say United is certainly on the right path I think with all these cabin refurbishments! Also their 737 MAX and soon arriving Airbus A321neo fleets already match these awesome cabin updates and I love them! I’ve got to fly United sometime very soon!! so happy that united is doing this retrofit program! Can't wait to see more of these. I just wish they did update the side panels like delta did! Also, the retrofitted 737 do have moonlights. 3:43

United is actively retrofitting 737NGs with Viasat, but just like the livery, it will be a separate upgrade from NEXT.

Hey i love flying united and just a quick question can you show from the flight deck feature on the IFE i know all united flights have route map featers but also ATC if its activated by the Captian/crew of the flight please

I did on this video! Sadly it’s not yet activated on the 737s due to a big which taps into cockpit conversations. I know this was an issue in the max I don’t know if they did end up fixing it on the NGs though

Do the sidewalls have the wafer texture like the BSI 737s or do they have a grain texture like any Boeing from the 2000s?

Awesome video! I believe American did the same thing in regards to just restyling the overhead bins during the refit. Probably a cost-saving measure as many 737's in United's fleet already have an existing sky interior with mood lighting.

AA did it slightly differently. On AA's older 737s, AA decided to keep the classic AA wallpaper on the sidewalls. However, on United's, United got rid of the Continental wallpaper in favor of a generic white wallpaper.

Not many of them actually have the sky interior. The old existing 737s on either UA or AA won't be around for more than a few years so it didn't make sense economically to do a full upgrade. They are on their way out in the next 5 years or so.

Do you book these trips last minute? If not how do you know the equipment that will be used on the airplane can be guaranteed the correct plane? All I can think of is booking the flight two days in advance checking what equipment is listed of flight radar

you can never guarantee equipment type. They do operational swaps all the time, especially on domestic flights. You're paying for point A to point me, not a specific aircraft. The probability of getting NEXT will be very low until they start receiving all those new aircraft on order.

Once N76508 is flying with NEXT, you should try to get a flight on that one. It may have the all new seats because it was delivered with Koito seats, but it may also just get refurbished seats because it was delivered in 2008, meaning that the plane is not that old

I wonder how much more comfortable they are versus the old F seats that came from Continental. I was on quite an old 737-800 earlier this year and the seats were just so comfortable. Old yes, but very comfortable. I once flew on a 900er and the seats were not very good. They were like a vinyl covered bench. Those were a different model, the same that AC used on their A319/320/321.

I've flown on their 737 MAX 8 a bunch of times, I love it. Although the United First seat on the MAX 8 is the worst domestic business/first class I've been on it's still great though

FYI the 737NG NEXT retrofits have mood lighting if the panel is set correctly. You can even see the blue hue in your video during boarding looking at the economy cabin.

Yeah... sadly they went the cheaper route like American's 737s. Thankfully the 900ERs already have sky interior installed so those should have proper mood lighting.

I wanna say United put half effort into their 738s bc I’m guessing they want to retire them soon. I know nothing has been announced, but they’ve already got the max8 replacements. The A319, tho the same age, has nothing in line to replace it atm hence the better product. I guess we will see for sure when the newer 739s with the sky interior get retrofitted, if they have better WiFi and include mood lighting.

the newer 900s will definitively get the MAX 8 mood light treatment, since those already came with sky interior, so for them its more of a coding/programming thing with the built system. But yeah, I do feel like the retrofit could've gone a lot better, but its also evident they tried cutting costs where they could At the end of the day this is much better than the tired continental 738s

For first class, UA should at the very least provide a cold plate or a hot breakfast like eggs/sausage/potatoes. A snack basket in First Class just seems cheap…

In their defense, their meal cutoff is 800 miles, which is on the lower end for US carriers (Delta is 900 miles). Yet again, I personally wish they offered more than just a simple snack basket

Ive worked on this type of 737 quite a bit, it's the "Y" version. I love the old mixed with the new. New bins, first class seats, and IFE screens in economy installed in the old seats where the direcTV used to be, also cool to see they kept the old style window shades as well.

I wouldn't agree. Still screams OLD aircraft in a lot of ways. I get why they didn't replace the walls etc since the aircraft will probably be gone from the fleet in 5 years or so as the new ones start arriving in mass.

@@Blank00LMAO. You're still stuck on that. Trust me CO was far from perfect and had a lot of its own issues. I used to fly them a lot living in Houston and there always seemed to be issues going on. They did somethings well and lot of things they did not. Never missed them once I moved back to Chicago .

Great report as always! The wine looked good, too. I flew Delta across the country in first a few weeks ago. They serve canned wine in both coach and first class. It was awful. United seems to be on track, customer service wise.

Did they actually? I had no idea delta did that (at least up front). I know United will usually hand out mini-bottles of wine in economy, or if they run out serve you some from the first class bottles.

Not really. Their food service in general in domestic F and Polaris is pretty awful cafeteria style food.

It's nice that UA refitted this plane, but could they not afford to pressure wash the wings? It sure looked crappy for that black gunk to be on the first flight after retrofitting.

I flew on the first A320 to be retrofitted (N438UA) and it was like flying transatlantic except the meals and the flight time.

To me. If first class isn’t you’re own little cabin. It’s not first class. Good for them I’m sure after it being 22 yrs old. This is nice. But looks like normal business class in almost every other major airline. I wouldn’t be paying more money to still sit next to someone. West Jet in Canada has a better layout in their biz class

In the USA domestic first class is much different than international first class. Westjet biz is only available on their 787s, and I can assure you every US widebody has a similar if not better business class

Thank you for this report. While I truly appreciate the effort that UA has put into retrofitting the cabins of their fleet to reflect the new NEXT standards, I wish they would put the same effort into updating their onboard product. The "First Class" service offerings were just POOR and in my opinion, it was a bit embarrassing!!! It was just not up to First Class standards, and that is a running theme with United. Their inflight product really lets them down. Again, I applaud UA's efforts to upgrade their cabins and improve the hard product, but I wish they would do the same with their onboard service product. It just looked pitiful. I believe jetBlue offers as much to their Economy class passengers. UA could be a truly great carrier, but in terms of their onboard product, they seem to be quite content with being just good enough, and no more. As always though, I do appreciate your flight reviews, and I look forward to the next one. Take care.

If you're comparing domestic 1st to international don't bother. Domestic premium offerings in the US will never compare internationally. That's just a function of Federal law where only domestic carriers can fly within domestic airspace.

Not a fan either of the "Wing" thing either on the seat. They are even more pronounced on the DL 321's and they proved very annoying trying to communicate with a coworker in flight as we were finalizing a presentation for our meeting. It would be the same traveling with my husband or friend on other trips. Wasn't impressed.

I will be the first to say USA carriers have been lacking in service but hey, at least United is actually putting their money where their mouth is for these retrofits and actually trying to improve- looking at you American Airlines 🤮 no ife on 90% of their domestic fleet is inexcusable

If United wasn't going to give these old 737s full moodlighting and BSI sidewalls, then what they should've done was kept the old Continental wallpaper on the sidewalls. Don't get me wrong, this NEXT cabin is objectively better than OAAsis and at least United is actually retrofitting their old 737s to have the latest features unlike Delta and Alaska. But this classic-Boeimg version of NEXT looks soulless with the new white wallpaper that you can find on a ULCC like Sun-Country. Had United kept the Continental sidewalls on these older 737s, they would've saved even more money and the cabin would've had color and a unique ambiance that the non-BSI NEXT 737s lack

It would be extremely hard not to be better than OAAsis. It's one of the reasons I dropped AA after more than a million actual miles flown on them. Very LLC style and getting rid of IFE was stupid.

I love united but I'm so sick of USA airlines acting like it's hard to t least serve a cold meal on and hour and half flight if they can do it in Europe they can do it here do better all USA carriers

LOL and give you a economy seat in so called business class in Europe. I'll stick with the US version of domestic F. He had breakfast in the lounge anyway
