Great video! Helped me out a lot! On my 2021, I was able to flop the driver side terminal box over without removing that one positive wire. Bottoms of both terminal boxes had two plastic clips that attached to the top lip of the batteries, easy to undue by pressing on the tabs. In addition to the bolted battery clamps, the bottom sides of battery trays had two metal lips to hold the bottom battery edges in place, easy to slide the batteries in/out. Stock battery on the passenger side didn't have grab handles, so I too unclipped the intake sensor wire and removed the upper stock air filter intake box (loosen intake clamp closest to box and remove 5-6 Phillip screws) to make more room to slide the battery in/out. The passenger side was a little more awkward on a stepstool. Took a few engine start/stops for all the sensors to regain readings and the check engine light to clear.
I noticed my truck taking a little bit more to crank over in the mornings (2020, 80K miles) so I'm going to be safe and replace both too. Glad I came across your video. I'll head over to Costco in the morning.
I just replaced both my batteries today after watching this video. One note is that I was able to remove and replace the passenger-side battery without having to remove the intake system. You just need to pull the old one and place the new one in going in at an angle. Took me 20 minutes for both batteries. Costco had them for $179. Thanks again for the video.
The Interstate batteries are great. I had the in my 2012 duramax and I purchased the from Costco as well. No issues with exchanging them when I had a problem either.
For the passenger side battery to remove that bottom brace I just used two extensions, a ratchet and deep socket and I got it out just fine without removing extra parts. FYI. Thank you for this video. Got er done!!
I had no trouble getting the passenger side hold down out, but i almost lost my mind and cursed GM for half an hour trying to get that red wire connector loose, and getting the block off the top of the battery. Finally, I just didn't care if I broke it, and forced it off with a lot of effort.
Thanks for making this. Helpful. Even though I loosened the terminal clamp, it was still pretty hard to get the cover off, so I ended up using a screw driver and wedget it up from the bottom.
Good job and good video...one look and I new this was a project. I like the real world rendition of the process and battery specs included. Mines 3.5 years old and that is all you can expect out of factory batteries, even though there is only 21 K on the truck. Going to Costco right now, as my buddy went through the same thing last year and got 2 new batteries free on their warranty.
I had one of those Interstate AGM batteries in my old Silverado. I sold the truck three years ago. The owner still has that battery in there...4+ years and still going
Thanks so much for the video. VERY detailed and informative. Just did mine. Worked out good too removing the air intake since I needed a new air filter anyway.
You can get the driver side connection off without removing the cable. Just have to sneak a small screwdriver under the loose clamp and help wiggle it up off the positive post.
Replacing mine now in 2022 3500 6.6 duramax chevy. What a pain to remove half the truck to install 2 measily batteries. Im very much a gear head so I was not looking forward to the swap. I used a slightly longer battery from costco. H7 i think 94 series batteries. Factory hold down didn't work on passengers side. I went to Oreilly and bought cheap universal replacement hold down and kept working. Should be a 15 minute ordeal for both. Im about 2hrs deep and ready to pull out saws all or remove rear differential to ease the install. Lol 😂
note: just "flop" terminal block over on driver side just like on the passenger side, for battery removal. No need to disconnect positive lead or accessory lead. Not necessary to remove air filter housing, just pull bolt from hold down bracket and twist it up out of the way to remove/install battery.
Great video. Question driver side terminal block the 10 mm screw/nut (@4:00 you'll see the screw I'm talking about) the angled pieces inside that actually make that tighten onto the terminal what order do they go in? They completely fell apart and can't get them in in the right order. BTW just picked up those same batteries from Costco for $169. Inflation is a myth.
I thought it unfortunate that you removed the whole "intake" without showing how. Further, at least on my truck, the passenger side battery "block" did not just "pop" off. There is a black plastic flap (visible on your block) hooked onto the battery. Otherwise, I appreciated the video
My 2020 no longer turns on at all, as of today. Going to replace both batteries just wondering if these will be good considering I have a sound system in my truck along with aftermarket led lighting on my mirrors and cabs
Hey man, I just wanted to say thank you for the informative video. I’m currently experiencing battery issues we’re having ridiculously cold weather which is a little bit abnormal for where we live and it’s kicking my batteries butts ironically I just ran out of my warranty I have 31,000 miles but I have owned it longer than three years 😅 my batteries do not have any cracks in them, But I don’t plug the truck in during the winter never had. But something has caused them to die 🤷♂️ how
I have a antigravity lithium 980 cranking amps battery for my Subaru Sti I wonder if two of them will work fine on my 22 2500 Denali🤔 they are lighter and way smaller in size
Been watching some of your videos to perform maintenance on my 2020 AT4HD. Question, I noticed that you have Banks tuner in your truck. Do you take yours out each time you go to the dealer or leave it in? Thanks again for all the videos!
I'm stunned that you removed both batteries at the same time. I understood that if the truck ever loses voltage, you lose computer settings, power window problems, numerous CEL's set, and it has to be towed to the dealer for their computer reset. Did you not have any of these problems by dropping all voltage?
hey brother, I just replaced my batteries as well. I found FVP to have higher CCA and RC than interstate. CCA 800/760 and RC 160/ 120. Now unless you are in extreme cold weather it won't matter for cca but if you use your vehicle to play music with vehicle off or leave lights on it is more like a deep cell and will hold up longer. The price is negligible through rockauto. FVP is group 48 or group 94R or in my case I have the room to install a group 49 with a little modification to the base plate. Class 49 gives you even more RC (reserve capacity) at 180 or equal to 3 hours $167- $171 plus a $14 core that you get back if you ship your old batteries back.
