Yes I agree. Kolkata need vertical growth like Gurgaon, Navi Mumbai, New Hyderabad etc.

Main thing is all are G+5 or G+6 , and there Debasish sir was saying we want vertical growth in Newtown as lands are very costly, if so, then why are you giving permission for these 5-6 floor buildings, give it to DLF or Candor or Neotia or other real estate and ask them to make at least G+10 or more.... And put these small buildings somewhere else not in these costly lands of Newtown

First and foremost reason is probably due to its proximity with Kolkata Airport. So AAI will interevene. Next is FSI. And the other major reason is the cost for construction grows exponentially as u add more floors. That's why you will see buildings like THE 42 was constructed by a consortium of companies. I am not sure about other buildings like Urbana, Atmosphere or Ideal Unique Center.

I think these buildings are encouraged so that small startups can open offices here. Tall buildings have high rents and given the scenario in WB where capital is scarce, it will be wise decision for startups to take up small office spaces first.

😂😂 Even they don't listen to the authority, the KMC, the Mayor. None. Because you know who they are(Their vote Bank). Last time Calcutta High Court ordered to clear Mallik Bazar of encroachment. Still the situation is the same. Don't expect anything here. The government doesn't listen to us. We are not having the Howrah Municipal Corporation election over 4 years. Imagine we are without Ward Councillors. 😏😏

Who will give the land? Since the Singur fiasco this government fears and doesn't show intent to acquire land. Simple. So it remains always a demand whether it's an Airport, an AIIMS, Industrial hub outside Kolkata, everything is just in the sleep mode. No Expressways, no new cities. With each passing day it is getting worse.
