New Jaguar F-Type P450 review. Why this is a half-price Aston V8 Vantage.

The Jaguar F-Type P450 is a new version for 2020 with a slightly detuned supercharged V8 delivering serious performance for a lot less money than before but is it good enough to be a serious rival to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage?

reinmansmith at £70K it is a bargain: do bear in mind that £15K on this car is the cost of Governmental regulations and another £30K is currency debasement what with negative interest rates making it so easy to invest in business.

Well a hint maybe.? Tell get it's time to buy a new one, but before you do you bad collects the knowledge on cars mord expensive and much more repulsive and ugly through her eyes, no cheaper and more attractive to get though, and it becomes time för you to present the material of your research and get her involved for advice so she can feel in command but be sure to go through this stage fast and do the deal even faster, then you can say it's her choice, when it's her choice you know she thinks she doesn't take bad decissions, so every suggestion of it leads back to her, and don't forget to thank her för her good taste even before have a chance to make her first objection about it after the buy of it.

It's the same for me. I adore the last Vantage, but the new one just doesn't feel attractive at all. I personally think the 4.0 AMG engine is soulless and doesn't sound that exciting despite all its power. Then it doesn't look very nice on the outside and the inside is plain odd. Some journalists talk about really unfinished calibration of the whole car. Strange how little people mention this (then again, I follow mostly british journalist, so it's understandable). This is before we get to the price. Meanwhile, even though a little old, the Jag is full of character and is not so confused about itself.

Hi Harry. As a fellow F Type farmer, (18R coupe), I have to agree that the car is fabulous, smiles everytime I drive it. And not just from the old guy inside. Have to agree on looks of the 2021new car. Just not sure. If you are ever in Western Canada, swing by for a tour of our grain farm, and a drive in the F type. Or our 68 E type. Quite a sight when driven together.
@alexanderfoster3628

As a former F-Type owner I have to agree about the looks. They have made it too Audi looking, aggressive styling has taken over from timeless design. I think the best looking F-Type were the final model year ones before the facelift. The xeons had been replaced with LEDs which very subtly modernised it whilst maintaining the same profile. A cracking car none the less and great value. A car that people like to look at and talk about.

Thanks Harry another great video - your videos have really helped lift my spirit during the pandemic and I love your style of delivery as it's more 'mature' and objective than other RU-vid channels. As per Dan below I'm a Jag owner and love my XE - I'm the 3rd generation of my Family to run Jaguars, my XE feels special to drive very much like a sports car and not too far off the feeling of an F-Type - very underrated in my opinion. I love the classic styling and the seating position of the F-Type, so pleased that JLR have decided to continue with the AJ-V8 engine updated to reduce emissions and now built in-house as it's a real antidote to today's trend of downsizing and electrification, the undoubted saving in R&D over newer PU's has translated into offering the vehicle at a competitive price with very reasonable and fixed maintenance costs and less steep depreciation curve compared to an Aston Martin. Love your chickens getting a little cameo too :-)

At that time the Aston Martin DB 4 was roughly twice the price, at just under £4,000. When I bought my current Ftype V6 5 years ago, I was coming from years of owning German sports cars, and remembering back to the bad old days of British Leyland, I was concerned about reliability. Great video Harry. We have a 2018 340hp version and it’s been a great car. Looking forward to a 5,500 mile trip next month from Atlanta to California & back, out via Colorado and back via Texas. Lease is up in March and not sure there is a better value car to replace it. Shame the P450 isn’t offered here.

Thanks Harry, I've been in the JLR family for 8 years or so, and from the day I started I've been asking why there's no proper motorsport campaign. I thought an XE could have been good in BTCC, F-Type in the various GT series... I was told by a director 'we won't race if we can't be guaranteed to win', which I guess is why there is a one make series for the I-Pace!

I honestly learnt something new when you mentioned about how Jags have the same wheel strike standard as Landrover! Maybe that really is why it has a bit of extra heft than we might expect. That or british aluminium is secretly steel lol

Sounds like a good deal. And the nice thing about forced induction is you could buy this less expensive version and get a software tune to get it to the power levels of the F-Type R
@marcusprice3199

A remap and pulley swap can bring this up to 600hp, more if you add aftermarket cats and other small bits. A big saving over buying the R.

Love your channel, Harry! Here in Michigan, USA, my wife and I have owned several Jag "grand tourers' -- 1989 XJS V-12 Coupe (sold and replaced with a too tiny Miata!), and we currently have in our stable a 2003 XK8 Convertible (16 yrs) and 2014 XK Coupe (5 yrs), along with several proper 4x4 vehicles for off-road adventures (down to just one at the moment). LOVE the looks of the F-Type; however, to me they feel like sitting in a cave with slits for windows, and they are rather stingy on luggage space -- more of a "go to the beach for the day" than a "weekend tourer"(?). Wife and I both like the parcel space that the back seats of the XK's provide, and the trunk space (especially in the XK8 Convertible) is fantastic for our road trips throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Oh, and we don't have those nasty "run flat" tires -- there is space beneath the floors of the trunks of each XK for a proper spare tire/wheel (albeit a "space saver"). Sure wish Jaguar would bring back a proper "GT". Your thoughts?

Thank you for the Video Harry, and whoever was behind the camera. Maybe I need to look at F-Types again for my wishlist spreadsheet. There is one F-Type on there already, it has a Lister badge though, If I add them to the spreadsheet, they will still loose points for not having a manual box. That is one feature that would make them really appealing.

Honestly the Aston has become too Germanic in a sense it's a bit soulless to be Frank. The jag still pulls those heart strings for half the price. Sold!

Astons are now crass boy racer cars. Probably their major sales are to stupid young Middle Eastern oil heir sons like all similar super cars. They want boy racer cars that show off and cost hundreds of thousands rather than the older British proper cars that were more subtle. Maybe also nouveau riche Chinese sons.
