Your pool pond is definently the best pond on youtube, I think it is my favourite because it looks exactally like I would make one, btw that filter is really good! Huge difference
I was of the understanding that it is better to place the UV light after the filter as that way the filter has removed the large particulates and the UV rays aren't blocked by particles.
That sounds like it makes sense to me. I guess you would need like a canister filter or something like that to put the uv clarifier after the filtration
The UV will definitely help, but there are also other aspects to consider : manually remove the debris, make sure you have enough flow (1/h the whole pond volume), decrease the number of fishes (max 1 or 2 fishes per m3 of water), well dimensionned mechanical and biological filtration. Thank you for sharing and all the best.
Good morning Tobias! I just watched your video, another good one as always. Have you thought about moving your pump to the opposite corner from your waterfall? This will do a great pull of water from one end of the pond to the other. I think this will really help circulating, filtering and clearing your pond water. Just a thought to help you out. Have a great day!
Yes, UV clarifiers work. 7 days should be good enough to get the water crystal clear. If not, either the wattage of the lamp is not strong enough for the volume of the water and the amount of sunlight it receives. Or the filter itself is not that good. Because the UV kills the free-flowing algae and forms clumps of algae which will then be removed by the filter. If there is no good filter the UV alone is not going to help to achieve crystal clear water.
Hi Tobias, I've just bought a UV clarifier for my pond and Like you after two days I was getting a bit worried, but day three the water is getting slightly clearer, have you made a follow up video of your pond after two weeks? I would love to see the result
Hi John! Yeah, I have this video, which was roughly over a month after getting my UV clarifier ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WZHps2eeyWc.html. I show the pond in that video and it is much clearer. Then I have this video, which I posted last month and the water is still clear, but I had an algae bloom ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KJAE1aogU88.html
Thanks for the tips! I've also been considering getting a skimmer for my pond. Right now I have a net over the pond so it's been keeping out debris, but eventually I do want to get a skimmer. As for the floss I use, I don't actually know what it's called, but the best way I can explain it is, it is a circular white filter pad. It's somewhat stiff. It came with my waterfall filter.
Tobias Holenstein yh nets keep a lot of stuff out, i have one but it lets little bits get in as my pond is next to bushes and a tree , i have a net above my head in the corner until i can afford to build a roof over it, i usually get my filter wool from pond shop but its closed, i ordered some off eBay, its supper fine but clogs to easily, not as good quality but it will do for now, i got a pond solutions skimmer off eBay for £29 , it works off jebao 6000 dual pump, even though it says 8000 to 12000 is best on the skimmer it works a treat, and even more so with a bigger pump, thanks for reply hope all good👍
Awsome video I would say there a few things leading to your water clarity not sure just algae there pine needles and leave that have blown in can't be helped but they will leach tanning into water that will make it brown and so will the wood if it is wood I see in there.and of course there is algae witch is because of being in sunlight but your uv should help with that but if it's not 100% clear and if that's what u want I would do a full water change and remove wood and leave ect and then keep netting out leave so they can't leach anything. But awesome video very interesting keep up the good work
Hi, yeah sure. What kind of fish are you trying to breed? In my opinion, for the most part, as long as you have both males and females and you provide them with the ideal environment, they will breed on their own.
@@TobiasHolenstein I'm good thanks for asking 😊 also I found it hilarious when u came out with the sunglasses tilted on ur head and then the amount of sunglasses on ur head you made me laugh 😊😂
I guess I never officially did another update haha. if you look at some of my more recent pond videos you can kind of see, but I will make a point of filming a video/update tomorrow
If you check out this video actually, I do some underwater shots and it was just over a month later ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WZHps2eeyWc.html
The wattage of the one I have is 55W and yeah you can keep it on 24/7. I don't have the instructions anymore but I think I remember them saying that you can turn it off during the winter season. Although, I'm not really sure why. Maybe the water is less likely to turn green when it is cold.
@@TobiasHolenstein awesome. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it greatly. I’m still thinking if i should install one. Some say don’t as it kills off the good bacterias.
Same here! and as for a turtle, I have thought about it, but I think a lot of my fish are still too small and could probably get eaten by a turtle. I have also thought about doing a separate pond just for turtles, but I guess I will see
It doesn’t kill off the algae directly. Instead, it prevents the algae from replicating effectively by mutating the DNA. After a while, the algae dies off and doesn’t leave any mew cells behind, making the water clear.
Hi Joe! I don't know much about this, but from what I've seen online, there are 3 kinds of UV rays and most of the suns rays are UV A. I believe UV bulbs for ponds are UV C, which is a lot stronger than UV A and UV C can do things like eliminate bacteria and get rid of green water
@@TobiasHolenstein thanks, im trying to get clearer water; with the full on summer like sun here, green algae is hard to get rid off. have been researching uv lights but to be honest there aren't many plants in the water yet; so im going to get on planting it first before i try the lights since they require more electricity and here with the constant blackouts (plus that whole week without power because of hurricane fiona) i can't relly on that.
@@JoesCaribbeanVanLife Cool best of luck with that! One thing that really helped me out with green water was a big bio filter. A lot of the time I think it's not really necessary to have a UV clarifier
So if you click on the Amazon page there are a few different options. The one that I have is the 55W, but there is also a 72W and a 110W. According to the amazon page it says the 55W is good for ponds up to 8800 gallons (which is funny because thats more than what it says for the 72W and the 110W). So it should be fine for your pond. Although it says it has a max flow rate of 5000 GPH. So as long as your pump isn't pumping more than that, it should be fine
I’m surprised your pond wasn’t clearer in a week. Your pond isn’t all that big and that 55 watt is way more than you need. I have a 13 watt one on one of my smaller ponds (250 gallons) it works great . However I never let mine get as bad as yours. My eco system works well. I have aquatic plants ( which starve algae) and I used barley straw. I don’t ever want to use an algaecide. My water is always crystal clear but I would still get some algae build up on my rocks. For the money you can’t beat this thing.
What is whater clarifier? Also how to get the pH down? My tank seems to have a mind of it's own. One day the water is crystal clear and the next day it develops a litte hue and gets worse over time and after a while very clear water again. I am guessing it's the pH fluctions but not sure what to do about that.
@@yugandharbeesetty905 UV clarifier uses UV light to kill the DNA of the algae which makes it die and is easy for the filter to clean it out it usually doesn't affect pH that's probably either from alkaline water from the tap or if you have any concrete or limestone in your pond it wraise your pH My pH is around 8.05 .. my koi fish.do well and it does fine water is clear I have the same size filter UV for a 2500 gal pond. In the middle of the summer if you put some shade cloth over top of your pond it will really reduce the green coloring
I'm pretty sure pH only affects swimming pools because it affects the chlorine but in a fish pond that's not really a factor My pH is 8.5 coming out of the tap and when it gets into the pond it goes up to about 87 because there's some pieces of limestone in the gravel in my filter but the water I can get it clear down to 5 ft with a good UV filter like he has and if it gets really bad you can put shade cloth in out or reduce the algae the UV filter kills the DNA in the algae which makes it die it's in your filter can filter it out because it starts clumping
I've had it since Sept of 2018 so it's been a few years and it seems to be holding up pretty well. I actually want to start building a real in ground pond soon, so I may not have it up for very much longer, but so far so good.
Thx for the responded , is it cold where you at ? What is the lowest temp there ? Bc where i live sometime it drop to 20 degree, and how much longer you think that pond will last ? Im planning to buy some koi fish and ur projects is the best and easiest way to do it for the $
@@jessiebravo9445 Awesome, yeah most of the time if fish are dying or acting strange, it's an indication that you need to check the water parameters. Btw if you haven't bought a test kit yet, the API Master Test kit is good. I would recommend staying away from those paper test strips, in my experience they are not accurate
I've had it for just over 3 years now and my plan is to build a regular in ground pond in the spring, so I'm not really planning on keeping it much longer
My power unit also burnt out a few months ago. I have a feeling they were aware of the issue because I went on Amazon and it looks like the ones they are selling now may have a different power unit because it's a different color now
Yeah, but also if you search online it says they will also kill ich as well as other parasites as they travel through the uv clarifie. I think fungus too
Rubish. Get a propper UV FILTER and in 3 days pond is cristal!!!! Tried and tested. I pay $90 for a globe. Philips. 3 days an non Chinese shit.. pure clear.
