@@bc_usa you would be suprised how well jeep rubicons hold thier value, especially in todays makerts. Personally i don't even want one, i prefer a vehicle with less road noise, but if you want to live the jeep life with doors off and rock crawling there are only 2 vehicle choices, top end bronco or top end jeep wrangler. its a very niche market like sports cars.

I've had 4 Jeeps. A Golden Eagle (yes, I'm old) and 3 Cherokees. The 4 cylinder was way underpowered - kept that one 3 months. They all had poor gas millage and serious rust issues (Wisconsin winters?). They also kept my mechanic busy with lots of problems. I now own 2 Subarus going on 10 years with only battery, brake and tire replacements. Enough said.

The problem is that Jeeps is trying to brand themselves as luxury brand and charging ridiculous prices for their stuff. I mean all the brands at the moment are overpricing their vehicles but Jeep was on it for a while. And on top of that you get the legendary Chrysler reliability, and lets not forget they are now together with French and Italians which are well know for unreliable cars. Lot of Mopar guys were after me, when I called this when Stellantis was created, and here we are :D

You won’t find a 40k Jeep Cherokee. Ben is quoting the base price, which you have to add 8k to 15k of options, 3k tax, 1.5k freight, and $300 to $1600 for a tag depending on how your state issues the tag. That gets you to 53k to 60k. Hope I didn’t ruin your trip to the Jeep dealer.

Buick is likely the dullest brand on the US market. They lost any relevance they had about 45 years ago. There is literally no point to their existence outside of China at this point. Straight up told a Jeep dealer I would not be paying MSRP for a Jeep Grand Cherokee L. He wouldn't budge. His deal came out to close to $1,000 month for a 36 month lease w/ 10k miles.. Told him, no way. His response? "We're sorry this vehicle is out of your budget".... Cool. Turned in my 2020 BMW X3 M40i, told my local BMW sales manager about Jeep. HE said he didn't want me going else where and that he'd order me another X3 M40i and sell it to me at invoice. DONE! Ordered it less than 3 weeks ago, got my production # and my new BMW is already in the production queue. I did swing by that Jeep dealer's website last week. And what did I see? Jeep GCL's are now discounted. I hit up the sales guy saying I noticed this. He replied that yes they were offering discounts and if I was interested in buying again. Told him I ordered a BMW instead.

I remember the first time I took a new Wrangler for a test drive back several years ago because I got a itch to buy one, I liked the looks of them, but soon after leaving the dealer lot the desire to buy one quickly went away, it was noisy, slow, top heavy with vague steering and felt like it would tip over in a turn or if I had to swerve quickly to avoid a accident, it actually felt unsafe to be on a highway ,worse of all it was noisy all the noise from the engine and transmission echoed right thru the floor ,it was a windy day and the canvas top added more noise as the wind made the roof move about, I couldn't wait to take it back to the dealer lot , When I got out and looked at the window invoice , I thought how is this thing worth that price? then I looked at a few used ones at the same lot that were only a few years old and all of them were developing rust on the frames and in places where I wouldn't think rust should be on a vehicle only a few years old, even the door hinges had rust starting! I walked away thinking what a pile of junk !

They have a lot of leftover 2022 Compasses still on the lot. In California (only I think) there is a $4,000 rebate for three more days. It made me curious so I looked at a local dealer and they have a Latitude that has an MSRP of 35K selling for a little under 28K between the rebate and the dealer discount. Its well equipped. A new AWD crossover with power driver's seat, power liftgate, dual zone climate control, etc... for $27,805 isn't bad.

Jeep wranglers are unique vehicles. Traditionally, Jeep wranglers hold their value better than any other production vehicle. But Jeep has priced them out of the affordability range for a large segment of the population. I recently bought a Jeep Wrangler. I hadn’t bought a used vehicle in the last 30 years, and I could afford a new Wrangler, but I was looking for a Wrangler basically as a toy to have fun with. A $50,00+ toy made no sense. I shopped used Jeeps for a couple of months until I found what I wanted. I found a JK in like new showroom condition. I had to spend more than the book value to get it, but I still saved $20,000+ by buying a used Jeep. On another negative problem for Jeep. A Jeep dealer is about a mile from my house. Their Service Dept is so inept that it almost defies belief. The dealer requires the customer to leave their vehicle until they order and receive the part, then they schedule it to be repaired, then the customer is called and told they can pick it up. My son had a JL. The 4 wheel drive developed a bad switch. The vehicle was drivable but the service dept required him to leave it with them until the part arrived. It took 12 weeks for the part to arrive. My son had a back up vehicle but what I’d he didn’t? My son was so angry with the dealer he sold his Jeep when he got it back. The next closest Jeep dealer is 25 miles away. They will order the parts necessary and contact the customer when it arrives. Then they will schedule the maintenance. My Jeep is out of warranty, so I can take it to any auto shop and get it repaired if I have an issue. It seems if the price of a new Jeep doesn’t run customers away the service Dept will.

@ericsimons8560 Год назад
1. They are not always holding their value best. Toyota has always been a competitor. The reliability is the true support point for high resale value. The fun to drive and fun to own will be varying along with market makes it an unstable investment, if you want to talk about that. 2. You are not saving $20k+ for buying used. You are simply being ripped off by dealership that take advantage of your willingness to pay over book value. That's it. Period. 3. Jeep dealerships are the most garbage dealerships of all brands. They all scam money, but jeep is the only dealership that scam your money and do nothing making you angry.
@larrys9879
@larrys9879 Год назад
@@ericsimons8560 The only parts of your posts that I disagree with is that the popularity of a vehicle, more than its reliability, is the main factor that determines its retail value. Popularity equals shortage of supply and scarcity of a product always increases its value. Second, in order to be ripped off the buyer has to be ignorant of the products value. The value of a product is based on many factors. Ten Jeeps with the same trim options, engines, & same model year will vary in price based on the overall condition of the vehicle, mileage, amount of, or lack of, modifications and customization of each vehicle. Is the vehicle a secondary vehicle or primary daily driver, does it exhibit evidence of significant off roading, was it ever wrecked or damaged, is the paint and interior in showroom condition or does it exhibit lack of care and maintenance? The Jeep I bought was in showroom new condition inside and out, it had a full maintenance record, the previous owner changed the oil and filter every 4,000 miles like clockwork just as the owners Manuel recommends. It’s mileage indicated it was a secondary vehicle, the clear coat paint was flawless indicating it was garaged when not in use. It looked and ran like it just came off the showroom floor. The seller was asking $5,000 over the black book suggested retail price for a Jeep in excellent condition and the seller wasn’t willing to negotiate the price. If it was my Jeep and I was selling it I’d ask more than that. To be ripped off I’d have to be unaware of all that I’ve noted. It was virtually a one of a kind used Jeep and I recognized its value due to its unique condition. As I noted, I’m retired so it’s just a toy for me to have fun with it. I would have paid up to $8,000 over its black book value, due to its unique showroom condition, so I wrote him a check on the spot. I’ve had it for six months now with no regrets or second thoughts. I’m confident I could sell it now for at least what I paid for it but I have no intention of doing that. I’ll keep it until I pass away and then I’ll leave it to my grandson, who is also my mechanic, that did all the customizing I wanted done on it. The value of any product is what a buyer is willing to pay for it. I didn’t buy my Jeep for an investment, I bought it to have fun with it and customize it the way I wanted it. One last thought. This is my third Jeep, and second Wrangler, that I’ve owned, and I’ve never had a major problem with any of them. Minor stuff yes, but nothing major. According to recent information, Ford is having significant major quality control issues and their new Bronco is having some very serious problems especially engine issues. According to recent published data Ford is losing $2 Billion a year in warranty claims. This is so serious Ford’s survival has become a real issue.

The 4xe doesn’t seem worth the money for the extra complexity and seemingly small return on fuel economy. If you drive in the city a lot, the electric only range gives you 25 miles. The cost of the electricity vs the cost of the gas you save takes a long long time to make it pay off. After the battery is depleted, the hybrid driving on the highway is 22 mpg. That’s worse than the V-6.

A month ago the engine light came on on the dashboard, we went to a scanner and it gave an error P018C... he took the dealer after waiting for an appointment for almost 15 days, it was a thermal protector that should protect a gas emission sensor , which was not installed at the factory, therefore the sensor was fused. Fortunately, that car at home has little use, since the dealer informed us that if the engine had overheated, the car could have caught fire. The fact is that we are already planning to change brand.

I have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Love it. Stylish. $48k when I bought it. The 2022 redesign is unattractive and $12k more in expensive. There's no justification for that.

Idk what it is about Jeeps. The brand is so recognizable. The product is well differentiated from competition. So what is the problem? As someone who was considering a 3-row Mid size SUV, I had Grand Cherokee L on my list. I decided against it because the engine choices sucked. Both engines are dated: V6 was wimpy and not efficient enough. The V8 too thirsty and still not powerful enough. I may have been willing to overlook the power unit issue but then I really worried about reliability…

I always hear people says Jeeps are unreliable, in my experience they are the best cars I have ever owned lol, maybe I got lucky with them. And I have owned 4 over 16 years of driving. Only two cars have ever left me stranded, a 2004 4runner that the engine failed on a road trip at only 68k miles (not user error, faulty manufacturing), and a brand new Chevy 2500 Duramax that literally blew up and burned and ended up in me winning a lawsuit with GM in 2011. Meanwhile I have a 98 Cherokee with over 275k miles still running like a top on it's original drivetrain. Daily drive a 21' Gladiator, and my wife has a 2014 Grand Cherokee with over 100k and no issues in 5 years of ownership. Again, best cars I have ever owned. Chevy and Toyota were the worst for me.

With current tech why do not all cars go 300k+ miles with minimal maintenance. That is not the case. But if you go with Toyota you can get that.
@petero5861

It’s many reasons why. But major one is you pay a premium price for less then premium product. It’s a joke I pay way more for less trucks or jeep. I’ve had Jeeps for last 15 years over 5 but this year I switched something I thought I’d never do. I wanna love jeep wranglers but not dealing with the high prices and poor quality and not to mention how the dealers act you owe them something just to buy a jeep.

A jeep compass (a 24k car) now starts at 30k. A renegade (a 19k car) is 28k. Why pay 30k for a jeep when you can get a Rav 4, a Ford escape or a Kia Sportage for that? A larger SUV from a more reliable company is now the same price as a starter SUV from a company known for poor reliability

I’ve always love the wrangler but never pulled the trigger due to reliability. My father still has a 2000 grand Cherokee. I wish he’d get rid of it. It’s not safe and is burning a hole in his wallet with repairs. Unfortunately being retired on a fixed income a new Jeep isn’t in the cards.

Reason people don't buy? Probably people like me, I shop Honda and Toyota because I want something that will actually work properly all the time. I assume those piles won't. I am also a mechanic in an independent shop and I work on GM/Ford/Chrysler products more than any others.

Quality and price are a problem for Jeep. Competition in the SUV market is tight and Jeep doesn’t deliver the quality or features for price. The Wagoneer has less competition, so it sells. Jeeps previous bread and butter Wrangler line, which didn’t have a rival in the past, now has competition in the Bronco, and Ford can’t make the Bronco fast enough.

To be quite honest the only reason jeep is struggling is the price they command. It is completely out of control. I have been owning jeeps grand cherokees for the last 10 years. I never bought a Gc for it’s reliability, i bought it for everything else. Guys let us not lie here, jeeps have pretty much always had a bad reputation in term of reliability. Yet everybody wanted one. The ONLY thing that changed lately is price / affordability. It is simply down right too expensive for the average consumer now. Grand cherokees prices are outworldly now. I still ordered a overland 4xe because I can. However in Canada it is now a 92k vehicle. Try financing that at 7% with 0 down. It is not only jeep though…. A plugin CRV from honda will cost you near 60k……. I bought a Jeep overland Diesel for 58k in 2019 to give you perspective. It is all about price.

I boughta new 2023 grand Cherokee limited 4x4 with 6k worth of options. Msrp was 56k got it for 47k. The dealer also gave me 2k more on my trade then other brands/dealers. Just based off that I knew they were having a hard time moving cars. That being said I have enjoyed it so far and even with the potential reliability issues the warranty will last until I trade it for my next car, hopefully a redesigned 4Runner in the near future.

There are cars on the dealership lot because they are not selling because the MSRP increase between 2020 to 2023 across the brand was higher than any other make. I would replace my 2020 Wrangler Unlimited with 52k with a 2023 for about 7k more than the 2020 list price (43,500). The sticker is 58,000. So I am having the dealer call me when they have a 10k off 2023 MSRP offer. They are there with Gladiators, Unlimited will take some time.
