We get a little glimpse of the activities and displays at this neat festival. There are special locomotives along with a former Lackawana MU club car. This attracted many Railfans and I was glad to meet some of them. Not every Heritage locomotive could make it however. Availability is subject to the operational needs of New Jersey Transit. The CNJ and PRR locomotives were not available and of course everyone was hoping the Conrail #4208 would have been there. I am told it’s nearly ready to be put into service. Enjoy these scenes and still images of this railroad spectacle.

Nice meeting you today. So the story I got from an NJ Transit employee regarding 4519 was that the unit was involved in an accident about a year ago. Some of the E.L. wrap was scrapped. You can still see some scratches on the left side. While it sat at MMC awaiting cosmetic repairs, mechanics started cannibalizing it to repair other locos. The head of ops had a fit when he found out and ordered 4519 to be put back together. Even the pantograph was removed. It took over a year but 4519 is now back in revenue service. Rumor has it that NJT is planning a new heritage unit in the near future.

As always, I so appreciate your wonderfully produced historic tutorials on our local rail heritage. You are a wonderful "storyteller" in providing the important impact local rails & railroads had on our region & for the people who lived here.And of course, you are "pretty good" with your camera angles, too! Thanks for sharing. This is Peter M; out!

Thanks for being there and bringing us with you! It looks like a fun event! I'm reminded of the fact NJ Transit used to hold Hoboken festivals in the 1990s and through the early 2000s until costs and especially post-9/11/2001 security concerns put a stop to them. Hopefully the Heritage Festival is a sign of a continuing trend! Who can really put a value on the public relations benefits NJT reaps from these doings? I'm sure they far outweigh the costs!

Love seeing the heritage engines, especially the 4210 in he old Erie livery. Brings back childhood memories of meeting my Aunt and Uncle at the Paterson station in the 50s when they running the old diesels. My uncle worked for the Erie as a clerk and was transferred to Cleveland. They always came to visit for a couple weeks at Christmas. A few years later I used to ride the Lake Cities back and forth to Meadville, PA during college vacations. I graduated in 69, just before they killed that train.

At 9:30, that little silver lever between the throttle and the brake is the horn lever, just like on Silverliner IV cars.

You must of gotten there after I left! I had the PRR unit lead my train from Trenton to Secaucus. Unfortunately going past New Brunswick there appeared to be a trespasser strike. Did have a good time at the Red Sox Yankees game even though your Sox lost. Hope to see you at any other rail fan events

Oddly enough, I sort of like the Arrow IIIs. They ran them on the Montclair Boonton line (only to Bay St.) when I visited over Labor Day weekend. Incidentally, that's why I had to transfer at Newark Broad St. to continue to NY Penn Station. Nice to see an ALP-45 in a special Atlas trains livery, too. Anyway, get those Arrow III rides in while you can, everyone. Oh, and doesn't the Montclair portion of the Montclair Boonton Line feel more like an interurban than a commuter rail line?

I wish they would bring the GP heritage units to the AC line a little bit more. Or give the locos on the AC line a similar treatment

My Pop commuted from Montclair Watchung Station to Hoboken 5 days a week via Erie during the 1950s...then the ferry to the City. I took the trip with him a couple of times. Wish I knew what the exact power was at that time, but it was definitely coal and steam at least early on. Tim or others do you know what it would have been?
@3985uprr

Question did the Lackawanna charge extra to ride in the OLS CLUB CAR ?
@3985uprr
@3985uprr 4 дня назад
You had to be a member and pay a premium to be in that club car
@ELAlcoRS3
@ELAlcoRS3 3 дня назад
YES they were subscription cars. You also had to be sponsored by multiple members and voted in. There was a waiting list. They added some kind of air-conditioning to 2454. It was the ONLY EL MU with AC. The car also had its own Porter. It basically was a special car for the Wall Street elite.
