My favorite to drive was the 4430 because of the A/C and cab, my favorite to work on was the 4640 because of the amount of room offered, but I have to say the 4020 was my all around favorite. It was just wonderful.

My all time favorite John Deere was our 5400 Forage Harvester. Three row head and a couple of extensions to fill semi trucks. I loved riding with gramps as he overfilled the trucks. 😂 Only used the wagons to open up the corn fields really. We also had an old Farmhand forage harvester (fitted with a John Deere three row head) and a LOUD Detroit diesel. It was used for corn chopping only (it really was awesome too)... those two and 4 - 6 semi trucks (mostly tri-axle trailers - but the six axles would be out there some too - those were all from East Mfg) and the Steiger Panther PTA back at the farm pushing up and packing silage. Occasionally when it was really muddy the two Steigers would be hooked to the trailers via dollys and dumped on the pad using a truck next to the tractor. That was amazing. In its day it was quite an operation. Cherished memories... one's I wish I was able to provide for my kids. 😢

My favorite John Deere tractor is the 4450. I just like them. Here’s why. My cousin worked on a very large dairy farm here in Maine before he started his own farm. His boss bought a low hour used 4450 out of Canada. The first person to run it was my cousin. As his job was running and fixing equipment. He topped off the fuel tank and hooked up to the 6 bottom plow and headed out for a day of plowing. Once he dropped the plow and started he immediately knew something was up with this tractor. He just kept giving it another gear and another and another and the rpm just stayed. Rolling coal and plowing in 12th gear like it was nothing. He knew it must of been cranked up pretty good. Then he really knew at 11:30 when he was already out of fuel when he filled it at 6 am 😂. He yelled to his boss on the radio and said “I need the fuel truck”. His boss said “WHAT!!!you just fueled up at 6”. Lol. Well they took it to the local Deere dealer at the time (Hammond-Tilton) in Fairfield Maine and hooked it to the dyno which was rated for 300hp. Well the 4450 buried it like nothing. Everybody was shocked to find it had been cranked up for pulling (like fair pulling lol) it had some aftermarket goodies as well lol. So knowing what would happen if they didn’t (driveline failures) they turned it down to around 175hp and called it good lol. Sorry for the long story lol. But that’s why the 4450 has always stuck out in my mind. I hope you don’t mind such a long comment. I love this channel!!! And I especially love the heavy tillage videos of all brands of tractors. Take care. (Pete Skowhegan, Maine).

bigtractorpower glad you liked the little story. It’s too bad you live so far away. We got some pretty tough conditions up here in Maine for tractors!!! But I really enjoy your videos. I was so shocked when I saw what happened at renner stock farms loosing a barn to fire. I’m just glad no persons were hurt and also glad no tractors were in that barn. 😢

Yes, the 240 has more capacity and the kernel processor and metal detector are definite upgrades. Our 5400 needed some work and we got into the 240 for about the same with the upgrades. The 8300 handles it well.

The plow was set correctly. The ground was hard packed. I like seeing actual plowing and like less the plow days type plowing. My favorite JD and only was a B! We are were are are IH only since grandfathers 10-20 but I loved my B. Hand start. No thrills.

FYI on the 6030 you could also get a 619 cid engine which made it available with two different I found this in don Macmillan’s book John Deere tractors and equipment 1960 to 1990

@bcbloc02 Год назад
This is false Deere never built any 619 6030 tractors from the factory. The 2 different engines deal is really a little misleading too as the 141hp option offered in 1973 those tractors were really built out of left over 5020 parts and just given 6030 serial numbers. They contain none of the upgraded features that were used on the 6030

Big Tractor Power, my dad and uncle bought a 1986 John Deere 2950 brand new. They used it on their farm and for planting pine trees for a long time. Last I saw it had about 15,000 hours on it. It was a good tractor. I grew up riding on it and using it. Have you heard of John Deere making a self propelled peanut harvester? I had read an article on it a while back. I do like the cotton baler pickers that John Deere makes, which is the CP690 which has become really popular in the Southeast.

When I filmed the 5400 this past September I thought it would be neat to feature the three new machines that were introduced together using the 531 engine. I knew the 1,972 video would post in the winter when there was no new field action to share so I decided it was a good match.

On the 7520, what does the small horizontal connecting piece between the exhaust and air intake/cleaner do? Is it exhaust gas recirculation? I've seen something similar on Oliver 2655 (an s-shaped tube) and wasn't sure of its purpose.

It pulls the dust and chaff out of the precleaner using the exhaust draft

LOTS of difference between a 6030 and a 4840. The 6030 had more torque and horsepower potential than the 4840. 200 was nothing for a 6030 on the dyno. The 4840 didn't like more than that. The 4840 had the SoundGuard cab and power shift transmission, 2 things farmers begged for in the 6030. They should have used the 531 in the 4840. What a tractor that could have been!

Why no 2030?Thats in the brochure to.Is that Steve Johnston's 6030?In 1972 my father worked for John Deere dealership in Greenwich,New York.In 1972 this same dealer sold a brand new 5400 pfh to Roy Everetts of Schuylerville,NY I remember

Great history. Thank you for watching. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to film a 2030 or I would have included it. These three machines are interesting to me because they all use the same engine.
