Silicone is super easy to remove and reapply. just do it! I have my doubts about that sand and bio combo. I'm curious how it turned out.

I had to deconstruct the remote deep sand bed project due to having to house some young threadfin acaras in the sump a couple weeks after this video was made. The sump is pure k1 kaldnes now and I was hoping to revisit the deep sand project later on when I have a bigger tank 😁😁

Very interesting, I have a question, that K1 filter how many liters or gallons is? and to treat how many liters or gallons of water?
@BryanLa
@BryanLa 2 года назад
technically the amount of K1 depends on how much you feed (from what I heard). so I guess it would depend on your bioload, not the amount of water in the system

Your pathos will take up more nitrates at a higher efficiency than the bricks, which will take 8 months before your first nitrate bacteria grow. another point is that flow is way to slow for those bricks to work...

ahh good point! thanks!

Can I drill a 180 gallon tank with fish still in it cause I have no other tank to put them in
@BryanLa
@BryanLa 3 года назад
I've drilled an acrylic tank with fish in it before, but I would lower the water significantly and make sure you have a plan B for your fish before you do so.

what do you use to move the kaldness? air pump or water pump
@BryanLa
@BryanLa Год назад
both, I have my sump return pushing the media and air stones

Did the deep sand bed work?
@BryanLa
@BryanLa 4 года назад
I didnt have my jars in my tank long enough, but I was seeing the anaerobic bacteria build up right before I had to change up my sump. Just keep the jar tall enough and dont disturb the sand and you should be good

Does the mbbr media float or sink completely in water?
@BryanLa
@BryanLa 3 года назад
Some float and some sink all the way down, not sure why but its half half.

just for kicks I was thinking it would be cool to see you test be for and after you make changes to be scientific, amonia, nitrite and nitrate, ph etc....
@BryanLa
@BryanLa Год назад
It would be nice but my tanks are cycled and ammonia and nitrite isn’t present. However I’ve done a lot of nitrate tests and the k1 performs as well as any static filtration but less maintenance. Been running K1 in my bigger tanks for years

use more plants to take up the nitrates. (aquaponics)
@BryanLa
@BryanLa 5 лет назад
Yea I'm planning in making a separate aquaponics system for it, but I haven't came up with an idea yet haha.

Even if it works..there is no water flowing it through it for filtration..
@BryanLa
@BryanLa 2 года назад
That is true, there was a little bit of flow, but it definitely wasn't enough during that time.

any updates or u has totally scrapped the experiment
@BryanLa

yea my bio media requirements increased significantly and my k1 system looks completely different now. The sump is now a 40 gallon (in this video it was a 20 gallon), and now instead of the deep sand bed area its now fully planted. I have some updates on my sump in my most videos.

@@BryanLa so plants more effective to remove NO3?
@BryanLa
@BryanLa 4 года назад
@@PCLye I think it depends on the size of the deep sand bed. In my case my plants grow like crazy (anacharis, dwarf water lettuce hornwort, subwassertang, Java fern and anubias) and as they overpopulated i remove them so there's room to grow. Ive noticed my water quality has increased, but at the same time its not something that would ultimately replace water changes. If you have room for plants AND a deep sand bed that would be cool.

@@PCLye when it comes to a visual representation of nitrate removal, plants show it off way better with good growth.
