I love your videos, thank you filming them. Can’t wait to see the first pottery firings. I have been thinking of upgrading my old kiln as well. Fortunately my present kiln has a digital controller, however is proving to be a little too small. Which size/model did you purchase?
Hi Jane! This is a newer size..2322D so inner diameter 22.5 deep and 23.5 wide with 5.83 sq ft firing chamber. I’m short so the 2327D tho was the one I really wanted it was just too deep for me, I would have struggled reaching the bottom shelf from the outside. This one is the perfect size for my growing business!
You are going to love having a programmable kiln. My first kiln used a kiln sitter and I had so much trouble getting consistent results. You are so right about using a kiln sitter kiln 1st does give you a real understanding of kilns and why you choose different cones for different clays/glazes. I do have a question. How will you vent the kiln with no holes on the floor? Maybe I just missed it but my new kiln has 3 holes in the floor to allow the vent to pull the chemicals in the atmosphere out of the kiln and vent them to the outside. My new L&L is glorious. It is so easy to set it, including a slow bisque, and a hold at the top temp depending on the glazes. It is fun, fun, fun. Congratulations!
Hi Mavis! I’m already enjoying my new kiln so much!! Great question, when I was editing my video I saw how much I didn’t talk about with my kiln bcuz I was too excited 😜 When I ordered my kiln I ordered the Integrated Vent Master so Tuckers/Cone Art installed it bcuz its hardwired into the controller… they install the cup directly to the back of the kiln on the lower part, (an Ortin approved install) so when firing I have leave the top peep open for the entire process to get the adequate airflow and I don’t have to drill more holes in the top etc. with the integrated VM I can program it to automatically turn on/off when I input my own programs..I just love this thing! Soooo simple! Thank you so much for bringing this up, I’m sure others have the same question! 🥰🥰🥰
@@SarahWaltonPottery You're welcome! That's awesome! It's so pretty! I love your kiln BTW. I've never seen one with elements on the bottom. That's so cool! Good luck! 💕💕💕
Hi Penny! Oh what an amazing step in your pottery journey!! I have a Brent C wheel and love it, in Canada it costs roughly $3200 I also really like the Shimpo VL slightly less expensive but amazing…if you have deeper pockets. I did a video a couple of weeks ago demonstrating a starter budget wheel..check it out. I liked the wheel and it works well.. and for $200 ish it a great starter wheel or in my case I’m keeping it and using it as my trimming wheel! Btw..I figured out what the noise was (the tool pack was wedged up under my wheel). Let me know if you have any other questions!! 🥰
❤ I’ve just found a desk top shimpo at half price !! 400 euro, reckon it will be a good starter and can resell when I want to upscale, so so excited !!!!!!!! Just need a kiln now 😂 waiting for the universe to respond 🙏 it’s been my dream since I was about 15 …. Now touching 60 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 it’s my time now 🖖🏽. Sarah I love your spirit you are an inspiration, keep sharing your adventures ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@SarahWaltonPottery yep. I could possibly squeeze a 12.5 to 13 in plate or bowl in there but that put them over me 12 in shelves. Thanks for your reply!
Thanks everyone for hanging out with me during the PREMIERE! Unfortunately the chat just ends abruptly when the video ends so i didn't get to say goodbye!!xo
I just got my first kiln!!! Hopefully I can get the electrician here soon. Your information is so helpful. Thank you ❤. I also have a genesis controller. Looking forward to all your wisdom. Now I have to think of a name 😂
Oh I’ve already found the Genesis controller soooo amazing! So easy to use! I’ll be sharing as I can…read to comments on my studio tour video, lots of great suggestions there for a name!!
Hi! Just found your videos and love watching!! Are you still loving your kiln!?!?! I have a tiny kiln like your old one and envy your new one lol. Im researching new ones for myself 😉. Do you find it's big enough after you've had it for awhile or find yourself wishing you had the taller version?
Hi Kelly! I'm so glad you found my videos and joined my YT community! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY KILN! LOVE...Love Love! I wish I had done it sooner! As for the size, I really think that this is the perfect size for me. It's more than double the volume of my previous kiln, and it keeps up with the work I am producing. If I had got the bigger one I would have to wait longer in between firings to really fill it up. I easily glaze fired 30 mug, some bowls and utensils in one firing, and my mugs are pretty large too. I am one very happy gal! Thanks for asking!
Thank you for the reply! So happy you love it. I worried about the tall version being too big that it would take forever to get a full load so I'm so glad you said that as well. Thank you again and appreciate all your insight and inspiration ❤
So exciting for you. Great information. Cant wait to see how it works out. Now i want a new kiln. I have a dino kiln. Which is quite intimidating. I think its doesn't have a cone sitter. So i have to use a pyrymetic thermometer to check the temp. But on a good note my baby kiln is getting wired next week. So maybe it will decrease some of my fears. Thanks for all your great tips.
Thank you!! 🤭 I chose the Cone Art kiln for a few reasons, I really like the element on the floor of the kiln to provide even temp throughout the kiln. I don't know of any other kilns that do that! For this size kiln it came with 3 thermocouples, again for even temp from top to bottom. I had opted for the integrated vent master, and they installed it to the kiln, so I didn't have to drill etc. I also loved that Cone Art Kilns is made at one of my local pottery supply stores, Tucker's, so being able to go into the shop, see the facility where it's manufactured was also a plus, Cone Art Kilns were used at the Pottery Studio that I took classes, tho we weren't able to fire the kilns, it felt reassuring to see the longevity of them in action. I really like that they are made in Canada, delivery and install, (still needed an electrician to hook it up) and if I need servicing and parts they do (at a cost) come and service if need be..it's just comforting. I've been shopping at Tuckers for a while now and the service is great...those are just a few reasons...WOW that was long! haha...I'm super please with my purchase. Are you thinking of getting a kiln??
Thank you for the long answer, that was great information! I've been thinking about getting a kiln lately. I belong to a community guild and they have three shutt kilns. I load and fire the cone six and bisque kilns on a regular basis. The thing is, they won't let you do any other programming so a Camille Hoffmann program wouldn't be an option. As you know, pin holes can be an issue with a straight six, medium program. My husband just built a shop and he said I could use a bit of it for a kiln. I've got about $3,000 saved but I know that's not enough...right? I live in Montana and the local pottery store does sell kilns but I think they are skutt. What size is your kiln?
Ooooh! I'm so happy for you and Seraphina! This was such a fun video. I need to learn your editing skills. Throughly enjoyed this and I learned a bit too. BTW, has your garage door always been pink or was that an upgrade for your new kiln? I'm really happy you're firing with the "big guys" now. CONGRATULATIONS ❤
Hi Tiffani! Thanks you sooo very much!! One YTer to another- your comments means the world to me!! I had a blast updating my garage and yes ALL for Seraphina’s arrival! I painted the garage floor and walls to freshen it up so it looks better when filming and then decided to paint the door pink 🤭 it’s been the talk of the block 🤪🤪🤪 I just love it!! As far as editing goes I only use iMovie and Canva Pro. I have a blast creating in those programs too it just takes a bit longer then I’d like. Tho I should probably just film better! 😵💫 speedy healing vibe sending your way!! 🥰
@@SarahWaltonPottery I'll look into them. You always come off so professional like you have a film crew and makeup artist. 😀 Very impressive. I can't wait to see all the stunning bright pots you'll fire.
I AM BEYOND EXCITED FOR YOU!! Omg!!!! Wow. I have to know how the firing went. I know you may have to offset the temperature according to the cones but I can’t wait to hear how it went.
Thanks sooooo much Michele!! So far so good!! I’ve done a total of 5 firings already! 2 were test fires 2 bisque and one glaze. I filmed the glaze opening but I don’t know when I’m going to be able to edit…if working sooo hard to get these pieces glazed and back in the kiln. I’ve gotta get them on my website aaaahhhhhh! I do work well under pressure😵💫🤭😂
Oh WOW congrats Sarah and Seraphina welcome to the pottery family! She is sooooo pretty!!! Can't WAIT for your first kiln unload!!! You are too cute I just love the little champagne toast - I wish I did that with Freddy Mercury xx
Perfect name!! Good luck with your test fire. I’m about to do the same with a used kiln I’ve acquired. Appreciate your explanation of the cone pack preparation. I’m so nervous about it, I’ll probably babysit it the entire time!
Oh you most certainly will sleep with one eye open! For both of my tests I slept on the couch and got up and checked the venting and went around feeling the electrical equipment making sure nothing was too hot…and it wasn’t hot at all but my brain was going wild!🤪 I’m soooo excited for you too! It’s so amazing getting your own kiln and can have more control over your entire process!! Cheers to you and your first fire!!
Ohhhh so happy for you Sarah!!! A really exciting time for you. Looking forward to seeing what you create in your new kiln!!!! Woohoo 🎉 Diane in Folsom, CA
Hi Connie!! Thank you, the lighting wasn't the best an my wall look brown, its really a warm off black!! I'm sooo happy that I got this new kiln, its soo dang easy to use!! what a difference from what I had...😊
Thank you so much Dennis! Your support means the world to me! It really has been an exciting time over here, since I've had Seraphina, I been working her hard! lol! But she is a CHAMP!! Love how easy she is to program and has so many features that I learn about everyday!!
Hi Elizabeth, They are called bead wires. Its a high temp wire that doesn't melt. I got them from my Local Pottery Supply store. If you don't have a pottery store near you most will ship, do a google search for Pottery Stores near you. Let me know if you need more help. Im in ON Canada, and I have a few that I use here, but I'm not sure where you live.
Congratulations!!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Seraphina is very pretty 🤩!!! You will definitely be a dream team. 👌🏼😉Nice to witness your joy. Thank you 💐 and kind regards from Austria! 🫶🏻🙋🏼♀️🇦🇹
Hi Claudia!! Ohhhh my bestie is from Austria!! It so beautiful there! You are fortunate!! Thank you sooo much! I’m having an absolute blast with Seraphina..I’ve learned so much already!! Of course I’ll be sharing..tho I’m desperately trying to catch up for Xmas, then I’ll get a video out…🥂
Congrats on the new kiln. You will love the genesis, you can watch the firing on your phone. I have an L & L kiln and when it fires, it really warms up the basement. I was so nervous when I fired mine for the first time.
I'm soooo loving it! It warms up may garage too, and now that I have the vent fan I dont have the fumes that I used to get with my other kiln..I was nervous for the first fire and didn't sleep well, kept going out and checking that everything was going well, that nothing was on fire 🤭 It's a thing, right? But all is well and I've done now 8 firings!!!! OMG! I was soo back logged!
Had to do the pink door! Since I decided to update the garage, painted the floor and the walls etc…the door look wrong so I had to Sarah-fy it… I went deep..the pink has been the talk of the block! 😂😂😂
Sweet Sarah I am so excited! I have the day off, I am rolling out plates to build, attempting a trial run with NEW elements AND I see I get to view a SWP Vid! What a great day!
@@SarahWaltonPottery Truly it is the only place I wanna be! Trying to get inventory stocked up for spring when Art shows resume, and waiting for Gerome to get to work again (the kiln - HA) Sadly I have to leave the house/studio today and go to Life-things YUK will be in a hurry to get back to the clay
The kiln itself is roughly $5600 as I upgraded the controller to the Genesis..I also had to buy the kiln furniture kit and I upgraded to the integrated Vent Master so all, taxes inc just under $8000 Canadian. If your in the US , I'm sure it costs less as most things are considerably less expensive
I love it Sarah! She’s so pretty and love her name too!😂 I can’t wait to see the magic she’ll perform. I use a slow cool schedule that works very well. Let me know if you need one! 🫶🏻
Hi Ana!! Thank you!! I’m soooooo friggin happy!! And yassss I’d love for you to share your slow cool schedule! Pleeeease! I want to try so many things until I find something that works. If you’d prefer to email to me or message me through IG!! I’m glazing some stuff right now and will be firing either tomorrow or the day after 🤪 Lisa from Finkle Pottery shared a schedule and I tried it two days ago and I like it but I’d definitely try yours too! 😉
@@SarahWaltonPottery I have it posted under community on my channel. It’s actually from Clay South (The clay lady) website. It’s very similar to Camille Hoffman’s schedule which I think it’s what Lisa uses.👍🏻
