Out of the three major on line knife retailers that I know of doing these new knife weekly videos, you guys by far do the best job at it and are the only one I still make sure to watch on a weekly basis. Just thought you should know.
Agreed. I know Blade HQ is one, and while their actual store is just down the road a little ways from me, Knifecenter's online store works a little better (although Blade HQ's search feature is a bit better than Knifecenter's is.) So apart from Blade HQ, who else does these video features? BHQ did fairly well while they had Ben, and Zac in the Wild was also great, the replacements they've had have really sucked. Regardless, Knifecenter hit the Babe Ruth Called Shot by picking up DCA and Thomas. Seth is also a decent addition, but it's the slightly larger than average fan and the curmudgeon that make Knifecenter's YT videos shine.

I really wish Hogue got more attention. They are the gold standard for a USA made production knife. They are better than benchmade and even Spyderco when it comes to materials, qc, fit and finish, action and especially price. The only area they lack are amount of models, but when you include the Sig and HK models there is knife for just about every category and job. That’s not even considering all the models they make for Kershaw, CRKT, Boker and a few other companies. They make the best or among the best knives from those brands, I can’t wait to get a CRKT Redemption, 4” crossbar lock folder with magnacut and a classic coffin shaped handle. Reminds me a huge coffins shaped handle slip joint with a modern lock and blade steel, and the addition of a pocket clip. I’d probably carry more slip joints if they had pocket clips.
@@chrisjosekuehl Yep they desperately need more attention - THAT'S the reason they price their products low, because they know they're not on most people's radars so they're willing to cruise on a low profit margin just for the time being in order to get brand recognition. Once they finally start to become as well known as Benchmade and Spyderco, you'll see them start to raise their prices to be in the same ballpark as those more well known companies I just mentioned. This happens time and time again and not just in this industry.

And even if all these benchmade were under $100, moras would rule over every single one of them in a survival sit. That bench has rotten and now is broken.
There are a lot of pushers, and companies recognize they are a tempting clientele. A certain athletic shoe company that uses a swoosh, one of their store managers said,, told him specifically to try to attract them, using the extra expensive models that were made, to a good degree, for precisely that reason.
@@henristeenaart9501 Yes I am aware of this shady politics but 540$ for that medicore material and finishing-wise knife? They must've been smoking crack.
I don't know what the hell Benchmade is thinking? $360.00 is $200.00 more than it's worth. I recently purchased a full sized drop point, thumb holed S30V Griptillian for less than $160.00, one of their best designs. Who cares if it's Magnacut steel or assisted opening or a safety lock....
Bought a redoubt not too long ago, it was not anything worth calling sharp, the edges on the blade channel were sharp and made it somewhat unpleasant to grip down on. I've seen better protective coatings at a backyard rattle can pray paint booth. In the bright side I learned my lesson.
BENCHMADE PSK - Pretty Stupid Knife I like my acronym better... I know you guys can do better than that even... GO!!!!! // side note $405???? you can land a plane in the gap between the bolster and the scale...
Benchmade And the retailers love you guys hating on the Pricing Of there knives, all it does is drives them up in the algorithm, gets them seen more, and I can assure you they are selling plenty even at their pricing, that everyone's complaining about.
You can get a Tactile knives Maverick with DLC for pretty much the same price And in Titanium Or no DLC for 250$ Which leaves you room to pick up a Chinese knife as a beater, like a Iridum or, my personal favorite, the CJRB Prado
@bornonthebattlefront4883 I think the 250$ one you're talking about is the g10 version but yeah I'd much rather spend my money on literally any version of that knife
@charlessalmond7076 I love the DBK boys. I've NEVER had a triad lock fail. Omega springs on the other hand. The Recon One and SK1 are far, far beyond any Benchmade. The Freek is good but fallible at best. I wouldn't use it as an emergency step like the Recon.
@@The4cpWe can agree and disagree. I've got a clip point Recon that I love but, I still find myself carrying my Freek more. The geometry of the blade and grind make it a superior slicer to me. As for an emergency step? In 53 years on this earth I've never seen anyone but you tubers doing that. Omega springs definitely do break but, I'm kinda biased there. I own 18 Benchmade knives going back to the 90's. I've never had a spring break. I can't personally attest to warranty departments either company as I've never needed the service of either. Long and the short I guess is carry what makes you comfortable.
I thought the same thing about the Kizer Deckhand. For the life of me, I can't understand why Kizer insists on D2 for their fixed blades. Not only is it rust prone (and in my experience fixed blades get pressed unto messier work), it's also not particularly tough (tougher jobs are why you'd choose a fixed blade in the first place). I'd much rather see their fixies in 14c28n or Nitro-V (both of which they commonly use on folders), and for the Deckhand specifically an Lc200n version with a peelply G10 handle.
The Victorinox serrated utility knives have been a huge hit at my house. We had one and it became the pick for fruit, so I bought more. My family love them.
@@Hola-ro6yvConsidering the BM in the Vid has a price tag of $400 and a small Sebenza on KnifeCenter’s website costs $425, it makes perfect sense. Know what you’re talking about before speaking with adults. Plus, $400 for that BM is a dumb person’s bargain. Go make your purchase.
I put tkc custom handle scales ( black linen and brown burlap ) on my Esee Camp Lore PR4 making the handle much more comfortable for prolonged and hard use.
The handle has always been what kept me away, I use my fixed blades hard and spend a lot of times using them, I like Bark Rivers handles (probably my favorite) but Esee’s contoured micarta is very nice, especially on the more comfortable esee3, I can’t remember what they call it, I got some aftermarket g10 scales for my Izula and it made it very comfortable I wish I could find some contoured micarta for it. I was happily surprised by Bradfords 3d micarta I think it’s called. Very comfortable, and I’ve only got one White River knives but the Ursus is another handle that feels like it’s supposed to be in your hand. I’ll have to check out the scales you got for your PR . I do wish they would do s35 or magnacut for that model.
Why in the world does benchmade keep putting coatings or stone washing their Magnacut blades, is it because it’s easier to do compared to a satin or polished blade? Magnacut is extremely rust resistant, no need to put an ugly coating or stonewash on them.
It also frustrates me how many knives from many makers feature extremely stainless and premium steel, and then they cover it up with a pointless black coating that will just look horrible after real use. Maybe there an audience out there that thinks it's cool looking.. but to me it pretty makes knives look like a cheap blister packed Schrade or something
I can completely understand the heritage of Case Knives, but... What I can't understand is a $430 PP Knife with a 154CM Blade, sorry but to me it doesn't make any sense.
We did a quality assessment of the Pacayas in our inventory. Any sheaths that were an issue have been replaced by new sheaths inspected by both ESEE and one of our product specialists and are ready to ship.
New Esee small fixed blade? Dang they keep coming out with new ones. I already can’t wait for the new Magnacut micarta handle knife, I think it’s called the sencillo or something like that. My Izula s35 with extended 3d scales is one of my go to edc fixed. That new pacaya might be another option, hopefully they come out with a non coated blade. 3v is semi stainless and from my experience as long as I don’t put them away wet I’ve never had a rust or patina problem. 3V is one of my favorite blade steels.
my goodness the Bill Ruple and Case collaboration Axe Handle Lock Back knives are STUNNING. I desperately want to see one in person so I can get an idea of how well it is finished. I cant see any imperfections on camera. Is the centering good? Does it rattle around if you shake it? Are there any gaps between liners and covers and bolsters?
@@CarlSanford76 you know, maybe your right. They would have some big price tagg. But a machete or kukri has the potential to save a life or make you incredibly happy. I sure do hope David C. Anderson stays at Knife Center, after Ben and Zac both left Blade HQ I had to find a new blade home you slowly won me over and now I can’t imagine anybody else telling me about a new knife and how good it was.😁
Love the Victorinox kitchen knives, even if the feel and ergonomics of plastic to me is inferior to their classic wood handles. My favourite is their somewhat more pricey santoku bladed knife with a wood handle.
I recently saw that someone had large Sebenzas in stock. Magnacut, 63-64 HRC and $500. Im sure their edge finishing is also much finer than Benchmades. I love Benchmade designs but I wait until local retailers drop prices to push them out. Then i have to sharoen the blades.
You failed to mention the price of several of these knives (the Superlativ and Boker) which you haven't done before. You should have a set format, like name of knife, the cost of the knife, the knife and handle material and then add the xtra stuff.
Benchmade only rips you off. Quality is decreased with much increased prices. They claim lifetime warranty and service but in reality is nonexistent. They don’t respond to emails. They don’t even include a cleaning cloth or case with their custom made knives costing over $400+ ( I know because I had a custom mini crooked river made ).
Funny because every review I've read about their customer service and warranty process contradicts every one of your claims. But keep crying because you can only afford gas station schlock.

I wish more slip joint knives, or classic style knives had pocket clips. The last thing I want is another thing rolling around in my pocket. I know some guys carry in a locket sheath but at that point I’ll pick a edc fixed blade.
Hi DCA, Thomas, Seth and the Comment Section. My friend has a Buck 110 and he loves it. It is going to be his birthday soon. I want to buy him a Kwik Thumb stud that allows him to one hand open that knife. (He already cut his thumb trying without them). I would like to get something for myself as well. Could someone recommend me a budget knife that I can both front flip and reverse flick (ideally via fuller). Budget is under $100, I have eyes on the Sencut Bronte, but I want to know if there are more options. I know there is the CJRB Ekko but that is not for me. Thanks a lot.
I laughed when DCA got in the weeds about the knurled texture pattern on the 3d bit holder. its too early in the show to get in the weeds about stuff like that lol. that said, what should we call it then? psuedo-knurling? faux knurling?
Knifecenter customers - I just received my Esee Pacaya. If you do not purchase one of these IMMEDIATELY you ae a fool. This knife borders on being perfect. The handle is phenomenal, the blade size and shape are excellent, and White River definitely knows how to work CPM-3V steel (while Rowen does their 1095 knives, White River makes the Pacaya.) I have a small Tek-Lok style clip on the sheath (I had to drill one hole - no biggie) and I carry it scout style just below my right kidney. I have been more excited by and more thrilled with this knife than anything I have had since I got my first Randall Made knife back in 1988. Knife Perfection!
@@Cardsone1 It's gotten to the point that I've given up on collecting altogether and will only buy something if I think it's truly exceptional. I've purchased guns for less money
Hopefully Boker used steel from the frame and not the leaf springs. The frame would be unique but leaf springs are as common as rusty lug nuts in a junk yard.
Burgundy is a French region / wine style. Made from either Cabernet or Merlot (a few others)... I'd defiantly say more or a Merlot than Cabernet colour... 🙃
Why coat Magnacut? It just diminishes the edge-holding qualities. I refuse to buy a knife that has a coated stainless steel blade, especially Magnacut.
How could that be possible? It may diminish looking-good possibilities, if you scratch the coating while sharpening or for another reason, but does coating it lower the tempering or attract rust under the coating? Can't see your point.
@@henristeenaart9501 Many coatings require heating the blade to cure the applied material. If the temperature exceeds the tempering temperature of the steel, it can reduce the hardness, just as if it was tempered at that temperature. A higher temperature means lower hardness. See Knife Steel Nerds RU-vid Video: "What is the Best Hardness for MagnaCut Knives?" In that video, Dr. Larrin Thomas--the metallurgist who created MagnaCut steel--explains the tempering process. (He begins talking about tempering around 13 minutes in, but I would recommend watching it from the start. It is very interesting.) At 22 minutes into the video, he mentions the problem where the temperature of the steel is raised above the temperature at which it was tempered. It is just as if it were re-tempered at that higher temperature, which makes the steel softer.
@@georgelewis9127 OK, thanks for reminding me. I may have seen the video already. When it comes to the big players, we should probably take their observations with a certain reserve, because they possibly may be trying to push the momentum away from certain products and towards others when they make some points. But along the lines of what you say, Magnacut, it has been said ,should not be much below 63-64 HRC, or you lose some of the advantages, which are the point of it.
@@henristeenaart9501 To really know how the application of a particular coating affects the hardness, we would need to know what coating is used, the temperature requirement for that coating, and the tempering temperature for a particular knife or the actual HRc for it, so we could look up the temperature for that HRc in that steel. I prefer not to have a coating for steel that is highly corrosion resistant, because many of the coatings scratch and wear of, especially along sharp edges. I have heard that a true DLC coating is very scratch resistant, but I have also heard that some black coating is called DLC when it is not. So I just prefer not to have any. I like the look of the bare stainless steel better anyway, and I stay away from non-stainless steel or even D2.
@@georgelewis9127 Agree almost completely, and am also no big fan of coated blades, although they have a tactical advantage. But how many of those does one have to have? Stainless steels, while advancing in quality, , intrinsically compromise the desirable qualities of carbon steel, for those who can put up with the likelihood of rust, if not well maintained.

Okay okay okay We all know Benchmade is kinda going crazy with the prices But between the insane price of the Narrows, and now this? Is benchmade just not selling many knives? They are pricing the PSK like it’s a mid-low volume US Titanium knife 350+ is not a high volume price I don’t expect Kershaw level pricing, as Kershaw likely makes at least 2x more knives then benchmade does But even at 4x less, Benchmade should have priced the PSK at 250$ Not 350-420$ The belair is 140$ The Tactile Maverick, in Full DLC, fully US made, using titanium and 63HRC Magnacut Is sold at 450$ Benchmade is running Magnacut at around 59-60 per tests I’ve seen And they are selling it without DLC and without titanium for pretty close to the same price They are insane
Just double checked Not only can you get a full DLC maverick for 450$ You can get a base maverick for 250$ That leaves you with 100$ to either fill up your truck with gas, and get a burger and shake Or To pick up a beater in the form of the CJRB Prado, and still get a burger Absolutely insane from benchmade And not in a good way

@@space.youtube No, I do understand people are free to do this as long as KnifeCenter allows it. I just don’t see the point. And no one has the necessary information to have the facts about pricing.
@@davidgarrett5671 Your "seeing the point" is completely unnecessary and irrelevant. Maybe if you asked why people have that opinion you just might. Why not mention all the prices? I understand that people will watch these in the future and things may have changed but it’s a snapshot of the prices when the video was made.
I'd like to see some items that are more difficult to locate become more readily available on the KC site. Items such as: scales in greater variety, slip joint knives with pocket clips, customizing options (choice of steels, scales, liners, etc.), collection display and storage products. I own about 100 folders and keep them in foam-lined cases. I can only see the end of each knife so, when I go to select one for my carry, I have to pull out many before making that choice. Oh, and another thing, I'd like to see companies set their product pricing at more affordable levels. I'm either not going to spend that kind of money OR I'm going to spend much less on a product from China. I really don't want to do that so, I'll likely spend even less money on lottery tickets. Maybe, if I win, I can afford a Benchmade! 🤪
Not at all accurate, read more comments. Even if it was, the difference is usually those other knives don't have budget steel liners, g10, mid fit and finish and an ugly af stamped clip to go along with the big price tag. USA made Hogues and Kershaws are the same quality at half the price. Of course that's going to irritate people. BM has been treading water for years. They don't do anything better than anyone else anymore, and they don't even try.. but they still charge more than everyone else for it. They're happy to let brand recognition, uninformed consumers and fanboys carry them. Kizer did a better crossbar lock in six months than BM could do in over 20 years. That's just sad dude.
