Thank You. I love the new French cut on clarinet. Been playtEutopean cut. Love them both. I have been playing Legere on all woodwinds during the last two years having been against them for many years. They’re great. You just take the horn out of the response is immediate and very good. God bless you all. Bill. Uk 🎶🎹🎷

I've also been loving Legere!

After playing Legere's for several years about a decade ago, I switched back to cane. I bought a French cut a few weeks ago just out of curiosity. It's so good that my cane reeds are going into a drawer. The only thing that is a "thing" for me is that the Legere is really picky about placement on the mouthpiece; must be done precisely, and that's not easy because the material is translucent rather than opaque.

It's true, I find you also have to use a non-metal ligature that puts even pressure on the reed, and also be sure to wet the reed's surface for it to create the best seal on the mouthpiece.

@@Clarineat, I haven't used a metal ligature in many years, but I don't have a problem with sealing. I'll try wetting the entire reed, though, and see if it makes any difference. Maybe that will help with how easy the reed slips around on the mouthpiece. (I have to crank down on my Eddie Daniels old style and carbon fiber ligatures (both have rails) more than I would with a cane reed for added insurance against movement.

I'm concerned that so much suppression of the upper overtones will reduce the projection of the sound. How have you found this to be affected in this reed?

I would say that the reed is darker but I don't think it's in an exaggerated way at all. Did you have the chance to try one yet?

I just got one this weekend and tried it on a jazz concert Sunday. I liked it at first, but something happened while I was playing....not sure what...very top closed off. I was using my legit mpc, which is the one I bought it for, and it seemed a bit too soft. Now I'm using it to practice my orchestra music for this weekend, and while it's still too soft, it's working ok for practice. It does have more body to it than the classics I was using for jazz, but because it's too soft for me (it's a 4.5, and that's what I play on V12s...I think you're supposed to size up a half step) the overall sound is brighter than I like.@@Clarineat

I don't hear that, compared to the cane I've used, on any of the three mouthpieces I play. Also, I think it's something other than "projection" that you're alluding to. A problem of definition, I suppose
