The new Hypercar classes in WEC and IMSA have really given the prototype(yes I know it isn't anymore, technically) racing series a shot in the arm. Love seeing all of these manufacturers participating. It isn't just a Toyota, Peugeot, and sometimes Audi and Porsche show anymore.
Great video dude. Really wish they could have used legacy engines for these LMDh and LMH cars - Porsche Flat 12 or 6 even, Lambo V10, BMW straight 6, Acura VTEC N/A, Ferrari V8 N/A, etc. All you hear these days are just V6 and V8 bi-turbos. Cudos to Porsche and Cadillac keeping some of it's heritage alive there.
There's a reason why Porsche stopped using their flat engines for prototype racing, Road and Track has a great article explaining this. Suffice it to say that it has to do with underbody aero, and how the engines interfere with the design and function. It's why when Porsche came out with the RS/Spyder it had a V8 engine, the very one that is an upgraded version running today in the 963.
Too bad....got every GT3 manufacturer in the world there accept for Audi now. I do plan on being in the race in person. First one for me since 2018. Traveling to Florida with kids is tough. But wife and kids enjoyed our October Orlando trip so much. This race gave me an excuse to plan another trip there.
@@WyldStallion-bs9ooI think the reason why Audi wasn’t there was because they halted the customer support for the teams to focus on Formula One. I know some teams in Europe are still racing the R8.
What is good for the eye is good for the race track - and this is a damn good looking car that also sounds right. Will be interesting to see its performance in real life. But Lambo did a marvellous job so far !
@@stewartalexjimmy9512 not sure of exact reason. But they are doing full season at Wec, they only have 1 car ready and the turn around from Daytona to Qatar is too tight. I could be wrong though.
@@Dmooreslotreviewsthey have two cars but they couldnt compete in Daytona because the car was in Europe during this time because of homologation purposes. Anyways, Lamborghini will make their debut in Qatar in 3-4 weeks and in IMSA next month. Really looking forward!! We will see both cars in Le Mans 🙏🏼
Oh man does this mean we may get to see the SC63 at daytona next season? Originally Lamborghini was saying they didnt have enough time to get ready for the rolex daytona 24h and would have to skip it.
I think it is a good thing they refused to use the underpinnings of the 963. Lamborghini is an engineering powerhouse just as well. Otherwise they would become what Maserati became: existing behind the towering shadow cast by Ferrari.
I know everyone keeps banging on about how it "Should've been a V12 or a V10", but I think I sounds just fine. If anything, I hear alot of the original Audi R8 from the early 2000s (which is funny to me considering we no longer have Audi in Sportscar Racing). Likewise, the people that say it "Doesn't sound Like a Lamborghini" clearly have never heard the Urus, the Jalpa (From Need For Speed II for crying out loud), the Silhouette P300 or the Urraco.
Are the powertrains developed by the OEMs for LMDh unique to the series, or are they tuned powertrains from the retail road cars? I was wondering if Lamborghini is using the Revuelto’s engine, electric motor battery pack or if they are completely different designs?
IMSA will usually let Manufacturers run whatever powerplant they want, production or exotic race motor, then adjust the engine's power /rpm and car weight with the BOP to make them all equal. Like Corvette runs the DOHC Z06 productio motor which is rated 670hp stock, but for IMSA all the GT cars are detuned to 520hp with intake restrictors or RPM limits. Any car that wins too much, gets restricted further. Not really fair if you have a better car, drivers or engine builder, but that's how modern sports car racing is in order to get manufacturers to come.
The combustion engines are free choice of the manufacturer, only rule is, max power output is 500 kW/680 hp. The electric motor can have a max power of 200 kW/272 hp, but the combined power can never exceed 500 kW/680 hp, so if the electric motor kicks in, the output of the combustion engine needs to be electronically powered down. So far the OEMs have used a wide variety of production-based and race engines. Porsche's V8 is based on the 4,4l V8 twin turbo out of the RS Spyder LMP2 race car from the late 2000's, BMW have used an old 4,0L V8 Turbo from their former DTM car as base, Acura's one is close to Honda's Indycar engine and GM/Cadillac have developed a brand new 5,5L V8 in-house. Alpine are gonna use an engine based on Mecachrome's current F2 powerplant (3,4L V6 turbo). Closest to an actual production engine is probably Ferrari with their 499P LMH car, they use the Tipo 163 3,0L V6 twin turbo from the 296 GTB (also in the GT3 race version), but funny enough the street version is much more powerful than the race engine! The hybrid system (battery , electric motor) for LMDh cars is a spec part though, so everyone's got the same.
@@jimgia "Any car that wins too much, gets restricted further." yes and no. Cars are supposed to basically equal on pace, that's the whole point of BoP. Changes are made if that turns out to be not the case. If someone wins a lot but the data is what it should be then the organizers just say "skill issue" to the others and carry on with their day.
I was expecting a little more ferocity from Lamborghini. On the other hand, I can’t get enough of that Cadillac soundtrack! Everything else seems too subdued ( thanks to turbocharging ).

LMH and LMDh are the build regulations for the top prototypes in IMSA and WEC. LMDh (born out of IMSA's old DPI rules) use 1 of 4 lmp2 chassis to build the car off of. Engine and bodywork are up to the manufacturer to design. A 50hp hybrid unit is mandated, and all power goes to the rear wheels. LMH (born out of the FIA's LMP1 rules) these are custom built prototypes from the ground up. They can be AWD (if AWD then there is a minimum speed before it can engage) or RWD. It can be a hybrid or just an engine. They are only allowed one area of adjustable aero. Most chose that to be the rear wing, Peugeot tried the front spoiler last year. LMDh is far cheaper to build than LMH, but if you are a manufacturer like Ferrari or Toyota, the full design freedom of LMH is more enticing.
@@jacktarpey9827 engines are up to each manufacturer to design. Acura has a twin turbo V6, Porsche, Lamborghini, and BMW have twin turbo V8 of their own design, Cadillac has a naturally aspirated V8. Alpine will use the Mecachrome turbo V6 used in F2.
@@Kalgani i know not all Lamborghini engines are from Audi, but the most are Thats because Lamborghini is owned by Volkswagen, some Think that Lamborghini only is a part of Volkswagen group, but no, they are actually owned by VW
@@Manuelbundgaardpoulsen11 V10 and V12 are from Lambo. Gallardo 2003 -> R8.V10 not before 2009. But with the V8 from Urus (which I forget... why not forever?!?) I'm also pretty sure it is a topped RSQ8 Engine. And how many engine does Lamboghini really has? 3.
Sooo, neither does the Urus then...or the Jalpa... or the Silhouette P300...or the Urraco. Either way, this is hardly the first Lamborghini with a V8 in it. Seems to me like it doesn't like what you think a Lamborghini should like.
