New Layout Build - Scratch building a block of flats

I've gained some confidence with my scratch building over the past year. Decided to have a go at building something a bit more ambitious. I've planned to have some buildings like this on the layout for a long time.
It took a about 70 hours or so but I'm pleased with the results for my first attempt at a building of this size. In future I'll add some much needed detail to the building and perhaps add some interior details.
The Warley Model Railway Show is being held as a virtual event over the weekend 28/29 November. You can find more info on their RU-vid channel, link below.

I think that building sums up nicely the era into which it belongs and the ethos behind high rise social housing at the time. It will be interesting to see how you develop its appearance. A development that worked will have mellowed. A development that failed would look a mess. Overall, what a really urban setting you have created. I grew up in an area of terraced houses, high rise buildings and railway infrastructure, there was even a scrapyard around the viaduct abutment! Felt strangely at home watching this! Well done indeed. Regards Stephen.

"Quite pleased with how it turned out" - what an understatement it is incredible the colour of the doors is exactly what I remember from a block of flats I use to go to in Gravesend in the 1980's - fantastic well done.

You can get cheap effect LEDs, which already has a built in effect like candles or slow RGB changes or blinking. Just power and a current limiting resistor you need and you can imitate TVs in the tiny flats. In my country in the 80s, there was B/W televisions mostly, so the candle effect can be OK.
@juhanasiren6824

Put a cool white LED in series with the flickering LED for a nice TV effect. (Adjust brightness with the resistor and hide or paint the yellow LED.)

Great effort! For your information, floor to floor heights are usually about 2600mm in residential buildings. Floor to ceiling is usually 2300mm. The 2000mm dimension is the minimum height under beams etc. I hope that helps. Keep on doing what you’re doing. It’s amazing.

Excellent work. If it helps, having worked for a large TV rental company in the 80's, it wont be cheating having a single TV aerial (sometimes a FM radio one as well) on the roof as a lot of tower blocks had communal systems in the 80's, though not for the old analogue satellite that Sky started with.

I have only just discovered your channel and have binge watched a number of them going right back to the earliest over the last couple of nights. I would have to say all the videos, visuals and commentary are very professional and quite inspirational but a bit beyond my skill set, particularly where there is a need to be dexterous with the finer work. Never the less what you have demonstrated and the way to go about things have given me no end of ideas to try on my modest model railway to the point where I would say I have learnt more from watching your videos than I have during years of watching other similar videos. Just two questions. Over the videos I have watched you seem to use a number of different glues, "Rocket Card Glue, Mode Poge, Copydex, Super Glue and PVA. Could you say which glue you have found most appropriate and for what job/work/materials and what do you use for shaping the foam for scenery?

Wonderful job! It's exactly what I have been looking for as inspiration for building flats on my O scale layout. It looks great! I have just created something very similar (7 Storey flats), I have always fancied a Cricut, but went for a 3D printer instead. I have used ply as the base and used a render for coloured concrete. The windows (actually mostly patio doors, to mix it up) have been designed and printed in 3D. Bit in advance of you, as I have curtains and lighting installed, but I bet you finish yours and get the vid out before me! lol. It's not going to be my last one either, get in touch, I will supply the windows, if you supply the brick panels!

It looks very effective. I love the way you can social bring realism to in to a model railway. Thus '' I feel sorry for the residents of the tower block, having to content with the noise of trains going by plus the clanking and banging from the scrap yard.'' But I think at the time, when the flats were constructed, in the Nineteen Sixties, they were seen as progress, in terms building of a better Britain, following the creation of The Welfare State, in the period after World War Two. This was ofcourse, in contrast to the cramp and sometime squalid conditions people lived in during previous decades in back to back terrace d housing in large towns and cities, built during the Nineteenth Century, during the Industrial Revolution. However, a number of writers have argued that people missed the close knit working class communities, of the previous decades, now acknowledged by photographic and narrative evidence of towns and cities. Of course, coming back to the present day,, where public sector housing is seen as a dirty word, with a negative image, I dare say the local authority would have sold off the tower block to private developers for demolition.
