I used AnyRail software and have created dozens of layouts trying to make each one a bit better with more features. The inner reversing loop for both directions was a challenge, and it does take up a lot of "building" real estate, but it was something I had to have. Great video.

Great right on information.! Just did the same thing. My benchwork is modular as well with removable legs. Ended up renting a 1 train room apartment for now. I'm a single guy so I'm able (allowed) to sleep in the living room. Smaller layout but way better design like yours will be. Had a train running as soon as possible just like you said I should.! I have 1 more pre recorded video of my old layout to release. I hope be good to go on the new layout in Mid - September. I look forward to how your track plan looks on new benchwork and seeing some your trains running.! Thanks for the awesome video. Mark

It's great to see you back. I appreciate your thoughts on limiting the size of the layout to keep it within your budget. My layout is only a starter set oval with 3 manual switches added, because I know if it grows it will put a strain on my limited budget. But I'm trying to squeeze visual interest into the very small space.

Ah yes, practice makes perfect. Well, if not perfect, at least better. I'm redoing my layout again but this time I am simplifying my track plan. It should be ready to unveil by next Summer.

Great video, very informative. My personal advice, don't keep anything on the floor. If you get a flood situation, you lose. It happened to me.

Any boxes I keep on the floor are stored inside plastic storage bins to help prevent water damage.

My home in Dickinson is built on a hill and has at least fifteen feet of elevation on the train yard. The whole yard could be underwater (that would be sad) and my home would still be plenty dry! There is a reason Dickinson was originally called Pleasant Valley Siding...

I had a really good idea with my layout. I never built any benchwork, aside from a small 1X2.5 foot extension. I bought a table with folding legs.

Whatever works! I just built our Christmas layout on top of our foosball table.

@@ToyTrainTipsAndTricks Makes sense, aside from the fact that it probably wouldn't be practical to be a permanent layout.

@@Engine1988Im using a standard ping pong table which is exactly 5ftx9ft for an o gauge layout. If I move into a bigger place I'll make additional sections
@Engine1988
@Engine1988 8 месяцев назад
@@victorreznov9940 That makes sense. I wish that I had enough space for a 5X9 layout. At least I will be able to run trains around the walls on suspended plywood eventually!

@@Engine1988 it barely fits, if I can get rid of some of my old stuff I could fit a 12x15 or so

Great minds think alike. I did adopt many of your ideas in my present layout, including moveable storage. I use plastic drawer wheeled storage units. Great for holding spare track, rolling stock, unbuilt kits, etc. Heavier stuff in lower drawers. BTW, how does the table height compare with original layout (did you change leg height)? Keep the videos coming.

I kept the 40" table height from the previous layout. It works for me.
