So good to hear that iconic trumpet again. It even sounds like they've worked from the original master and not the updated version they used in the early 2000s.
Yep, an ABC News clip they posted the day before the rebrand does confirm that they worked from the original master, but it was a challenge to get the original recordings off the open reel tape it was originally recorded to and convert each track to something that would work in a modern DAW.
These new ABC News graphics are not bad when seen on TV, but it’s very fumbled and hard to navigate on the website. The real highlight is of course the return of the 1986-2005 theme composed by Tony Ansell and Peter Wall to open the bulletins, after it last appeared almost 20 years ago.
The website before was hard to navigate, and I do think the website is marginally better than before. Although, I liked the black accent colours of the ABC (2017-24) because it was a lot visually unique from 9, sydney morning herald, the guardian, etc.
That’s because it’s the composition by Tony Ansell and Peter Wall that was used to open ABC News bulletins from 1986 until 2005. It was also revamped into a dance track by Perth group Pendulum when they did a remix of the theme in 2010.
I don't hate it, the graphics at least. And I'm glad the Metro Day in Sydney is in here (delayed 2 weeks). But why is everybody so emotional about the 1985 news theme? It's better than the 1955 theme but that's because we never gave it as much evolution, but why not though? The 2005 theme is also more evolved and had nothing wrong with it either, and are we going to get nostalgic over it in 2055 too? I don't see the big deal about the 1985 theme when you're going to "do an updated version" anyway, so either go back to 1955 like they have on the radio, or update the 2005-2010-2017 one, or make something that's actually new.
Is it "traditional" though? That would be the 1955 theme. I don't get why the 1985 one is more special than 2005. One day "2005" will be so old it's traditional.
@@nicholetheotter1957 yeah i know that. i feel like this is more fitting for the news theme actually used in the 80s. using it in modern times doesn't feel right. i expected it to be remixed the way abc remixed the 2005 theme for 2017 and 2010
