Lexington market's redevelopment has seen a series of delays, one of which was the COVID-19 Pandemic, but people behind the project and its dozens of local vendors officially welcomed in the public for the market's grand reopening. Paul Ruppert, the president and CEO of the Baltimore Public Markets Corporation, talked with WMAR-2 News's Randall Newsome about what it meant to see all the work pay off ahead of the ribbon cutting.
"This has been a long 10-year process to get where we are today," Ruppert said. "It's been a challenge, especially during the pandemic, but it's really been exciting to get where we are today."
Ruppert wants Lexington Market to give people the atmosphere of a festival.

The new market is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the old one. No space for live bands to play inside. Many of the old staple food stalls did not return. Peanut stall is also gone. Blue Island made it into the new market but they are tucked away in a corner but the other asian food vendors are gone. This new market is very cramped with only one central short walkway. There doesn’t appear the be an elevator inside so anyone with a wheelchair or those who cannot safely walk up the steps have to go outside snd up the ramp to access the second floor. The new market looks promising but is too small to bring out the full potential that the old one did.

Thanks for the information, in that case I won’t be visiting. The entertainment and seeing real down to earth people enjoying themselves was the only reason I drove from Waldorf Md . I figured they would cater more to others
