8GB RAM is definitely enough for light users who aren’t going to push the machine with intense software. And that is who the base model Air is for is average users.
Nothing wrong with 8gb ...whatsoever ...u can do medium to heavy work with 8gb since they introduced the M series of chips & unified memory ..that throwaway comment was something a hack would say .. youtubers really need to educate themselves
I have the m3 air 8gb of ram. I use it to stream movies, do school work browse the web just use it as a basic laptop and it works wonderful don't listen to these RU-vid ppl as me an average consumer if you just want a decent Mac for the price the m3 air 8gb of ram is perfect
Man, I really respect your honesty. Telling people to not get 8GB, and to not upgrade over the M2. I trust you more than any other tech reviewer and I always come to your page first in hopes of seeing the latest tech stuff!
RU-vid influencers need to stop discouraging potential buyers from buying base models. The vast majority will be fine with 8 gigs of ram. In addition, Apple is NOT going to give you greater value for the money spent on the extra ram. They're not going to support your hardware for any longer than the base model. Base models will always offer the best value on a trade-in. RU-vid influencers are not representative of the average consumer and their collective advice should be taken with a massive dose of salt.
Hey bro, questions. I’m getting my m3 in a couple of days. It looks like you a good perspective on it. I am quite clueless on this subject. Should I pay 200 more for more ram? ( I’m going to use it for some light video editing and picture editing like the bare minimum. I haven’t edited that much but I want to learn it. My current MacBook is 6 years old.) What do you recommend bro?
@UrAvgConsumer hey just wanted to know what app are you using to edit your videos and do you know any free good apps to use I just recently got a MacBook Air M2 and I’m trying to edit my videos for streaming thanks in advance 😊
Literally the only thing that's held me back from buying this design of the macbook air has been the 60hz display with no promotion. 60hz is fine but going from my phone and my ipad both with 120hz it's quite a difference.
@@hondaaccord2.0t41 I really hope so… when I had 60hz on my iPhone and 120hz on my iPad, going back and forth between the two was headache inducing and highlighted just how bad the 60hz screen was in comparison.
why do youtubers constantly say don't go for the 8gb option when like 95% of people who use their MacBook are just browsing the internet and watching Netflix. Your personal use case isn't relevant and is incredibly atypical
as a macbook user, i am telling you this: you are right, 8 gb ram is enough for the stuff you mentioned but once you cross that line you are using swap memory and that could cause some problems
@durgeshsharma4165 I've edited without issues ..mixed music rendered animations with zero issues ..played resid3nt evil 4 at 70fps smooth as butter ..and only 8gb on my m3 youtubers like this are simply in apples pocket
@@Allwin-lz6yj currently using one atm. I dont need the 16gb of ram or even the 512gbssd as this is for super average use. RU-vid, spotify, facebook and I use EZdrummer3 on it. Does ALL I need it to do with error. No need for me to pay an extra $200 for something I dont need. Hope that helps you figure that out. If you are someone who does hardcore video editing or photo editing I can understand the upgrades. Then again if you are doing all that why are you looking at an Air model? Save up and go for a pro. If not then you are simply wasting money. Most average users dont even push the 16gb of ram that much or the ssd. People enjoy paying more thinking they need more. Instead of spending $200 for 512ssd, I spent $200 for an external 2tbssd. And again going to 16gb of ram for what I use it for is wasting money. 8gb of ram loads everything just fine.
This is the comparison I was looking for. I have the M1 and its been moving slowly over the last year and need to be charged more frequently. Plus the port situation is bad. Upgrading to something faster for my PhD program will be very helpful.
Love the content. I actually upgraded from the M2. I was not aware when I went from my old old heavy MacBook Pro (like 8 years old) to the MacBook Air M2 last year that I could not use two monitors which I used to use all the time. By the time I found out it was too late to return the laptop so I was stuck with it. I also make the mistake of getting the wrong configuration so for me this was a necessary upgrade from the M2 with 8gb to the M3 16gb/516 gb SSD and now dual monitor capability.
8GB is fine for lighter usage. I'm still using an M1 Air with 8GB, for daily office work, withe the occasional bit of light audio and video editing, and it is fantastic. 16GB would future proof you a little, but for non intensive work 8GB is still okay.
Bloody hell finally a reviewer who reviews for a normal consumer and doesn’t go madly into micro depth! Thanks man! How come I never came across your channel before 🤔. Anyway I’m going to be buying which will be my 1st Mac! You’ve now got another subscriber… although u don’t need it 🤣
If I have a 2019 16gb MacBook Pro, would I be okay with an 8gb M3 MacBook Air? I can’t afford to upgrade the RAM and storage. And 256 GB storage is not an option
@@Hahahayouwish I ended up buying a refurbished M2 w/ 16gb RAM and 1 TB drive. Very happy with my decision. Especially when comparing costs-to-features with just about every other option in my price range
Some tradeoffs going with the M1 Pro. Pros: Better display resolution and screen refresh rate (120hz vs 60hz), better ports, base model starts with 16GB of RAM, better fan, and better for video editing. Cons: Fewer years of software support and worse single-core CPU performance.
@@akin242002 Factually, you don't actually know that the M1 will only receive four more years of support. Apple will very likely support these M series chips for a decade or more.
@mw7967 Usually 10 years. There is a business incentive to get people to buy the latest product. Buying an M1 Pro would mean support ends around 2030 or 2031. Still a great product.
Hey been a follower of the channel for a long time big fan*. I wanted to know for a college student is it worth going to 24gb of ram or is 16gb good enough. As well as for space how much do you think is necessary for schooling.
16GB is more than enough. DO NOT PURCHASE 8GB. If you have money, go with 512GB version. If you are tight on budget, go with 16GB + 256GB and purchase an external SSD which will cost you just $50 for 512GB.
Would you recommend increasing the ram to 16gb with 256g or increase the storage to 512gb and 8gb ram? Or just upgrade to 512gb and 16gb? I am considering getting a m3 MacBook Air but after watching several reviews I am still not sure if I should just get the bear model or do some modifications.
If you have money to spend on just 1 upgrade- go with 16GB + 256GB configuration. Honestly, M2 MacBook Air with 16GB + 512GB is way faster than base M3 MacBook Air. Chose wisely.
So guys I have a question and I need an answer ASAP! So, I've just got my new job as a software engineer. I'm planning on buying a Macbook because I've seen and heard just a great stuff about Macs and coding power. My question is : Should I buy M1, M2 or the M3 model of Macbook air, prices in my country in order : 1100$, 1450$, 1500$. Is it worth it saving those few hundred dollars if I buy the M1, or should I just go right ahead and buy the M3? I'm talking about base model Macs (8GB ram, 256gb ssd...). Thanks y'all.
Base model is simply a big NO for software engineers. Docker Desktop itself takes 4.5 GB of RAM. Given the RAM also comprises of VRAM since Apple laptops don't have dedicated graphics, it is going to eat up 8GB so damn easily. Apple shipping a $1000+ laptops with just 8GB RAM + 256GB SSD is plain unprofessional and exploitation of consumers. If you don't really care about the support for 2 external monitors and some AI features Apple is hyping, go with M2 MacBook Air with 16GB + 512 GB SSD. I will no longer recommend M1 now. If you have the budget, go with similar configuration on M3. If you are tight on budget and have one upgrade to chose from, 16GB RAM is far better choice than 512 SSD for so many good reasons.
The M series MacBook Air and the M series Mac Mini are the best non-phone products from Apple for the middle class (with 16GB of RAM). 70% of computer users that have an iPhone will benefit from using them.
Thinking about purchasing the base M2 Macbook Air 15 inch since its on sale for $1,000. Coming from a 2015 iMac 27 inch. Would anyone recommend upgrading to this laptop and buying a monitor? Would this be enough power for just daily tasks like twitter, multiple videos, etc? Any suggestions from you guys would be great.
I still have the last intel based Air and I'm about to order the 15 inch 8gb (I know you said not to) . Im just a basic user and may go back to school this fall. Will I be ok?
better to go with the smaller , 512gb one. or even opt for the m2 if you can find it at a cheap price point. fthe standard 256gb is not enough trust me!
Apple should have built their own in house porting company. Devs have little reason to port their games to Mac so Apple should just buy the licenses and do it in house. That would change gaming landscape on Mac.
I am a graduate student and I do mostly papers with some videos or audio visual presentations. Which RAM should I get the 16Gb or 24 Gb? Can the new m3 MacBook Air handle such workload without overheating?
Magsafe port is really useless. An extra usb C port would be so much usefu. Also including magsafe cable in box is kind of silly when they have standardized chargeport across all apple devices to be USB C. Just give a long usb c to usb c cable apple So that we can have 1 charger and 1 cable for everything.
Got a question for you dude. Looking for a computer for business. I do a lot of Excel, adobe, and a lot of other stuff that takes a lot of RAM. Was looking the LENEVO Yogo or something similar. But was told to look at the MacBook Pro but that’s pricy. Would you recommend the MacBook Air with the M3 chip for a person who has multiple programs running? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love the vids!!!
Noo! If you need RAM, get a ThinkPad G4 with 32GB of RAM. Preferably the Ryzen 7 7840U CPU version. You will save more money and have access to the full features of Excel. RAM is very important when dealing with Adobe products.
They definitely improved the anti-fingerprint material but you can still see it. Is there a matte finish version? If only Apple didn't charge for so much for upgrading the RAM and storage; especially since it's soldered to the motherboard. I doubt Mac will ever be the preferred choice for gaming over PC and or consoles.
I have a m2 13 inch in midnight but cannot bare the fingerprints on it, I’m going to trade it in and get 860$ would it be better to spend a 250$ extra to get the m3 in space black or get the m2 for only 100$ more. Although sounds dumb it’s a personal opinion.
I am just confused between the Air M3 and the Pro M3 as after we spec out the air with good storage and memory, it’s almost same priced as the pro M3…. and I also need a laptop for years to come atleast 6 to 7 years minimum.
The 35 W charger is a bit of a scam. I wasn't able to charge any Android phone with that, I guess it works only with Iphone. As that didn't work I switched to the faster 70 W charger.
If we can't able to use the 3rd display ( MacBook Display it self ) then this device make any sense ? Because if user want s to use the 3 display at a time then what he / she gonna do ?
Ask yourself these 3 questions- 1. Do I absolutely need to work on 2 external monitors ? 2. Do I genuinely care about marginal performance improvement as if my workload is so demanding that I can take advantage from those small gains compared to M2 ? 3. Do I really care about certain AI features Apple is talking about and not just want to ride the hype train ? If your answer is NO to all three questions, you definitely can skip M3 and even M4 iteration of Apple silicon. M2 will easily last as a power horse for the next 5 years.
