No big deal. I would still not upgrade from m1. It is a productivity beast and I am happily using it after almost 3 years with the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil working in the same snappy way they were while I bought them all. Hope they don’t miss out on us M1 iPad Pro users when they update the software in the next month’s wwdc coz os is everything. It has lived up to my expectations till now at the very least and I am hoping it does in the future as will till it dies completely on me. Once joined with my 32inch 4K lg monitor, it is nothing less than a desktop for me(minus the clamshell mode). This is my one device to rule them all

My 2018 ipad pro died a gentle death in March...I used mine literally every single day since I bought it. Battery was getting weak, but not unusable. The usb c got very janky, even after cleaning. Last charge took all night and a lot of cable wiggling. Hope the one I ordered today holds up just as well. Enough upgrades to make me happy with the purchase.

I will definitely eventually get the 11 inch with probably 512 storage. I don’t really need all the efficiency core and top-of-the-line stuff after a lot of experimentation. I’ve discovered that the mini is actually too small for me and the 12.9 is too big so I’ll go with the 11 inch OLEDsometime this year

It's a insane powerhouse. I have the M1 version and it still has more than enough power, but you still need macOS for some things. It still no replacement. So i bought the M3 air. I need touch screen on the air :p

There are no true desktop versions on iPad. Whilst we were all jumping up and down at the news of final cut coming to iPad, it's nothing like the desktop version.

You don’t need the 10 core CPU M4 to get dynamic caching, Mesh shading and ray tracing. Both M4’s have these.

8:34 he explains Double check what me, but this is what I understand: The m4 pro and m2 air do not use the 2nd gen apple pencil. You must buy new Apple Pen Pro or the usb-c. The Apple Pen Pro is not backwards compatible.

I am assuming the  Pencil Pro comes with magnets strategically located that will align with the magnets around the front facing camera and is also why it is only compatible with the new iPad Air and iPad Pro and not the previous models.

At 6:08 you said that dynamic caching, ,mesh shading, and ray tracing are only available on the ten core models..This is incorrect as the clip you highlighted is referring to the GPU, not the CPU.

Nice summary! Thanks. Alas, I still am not seeing a reason to buy an M4 iPad Pro when my 2018 12.9 inch iPad Pro still meets all of my needs. I figure the $2K -$2500 I would spend on a new iPP is better spent on a new 14 or 16 inch MBP when they get the M4 chip, although I'm not sure I really NEED to upgrade my 16 inch M1Pro MBP either.

I got the 512GB storage version , which maxes out at 8GB. Only 1 and 2TB come with 16GB. In the past I opted for the larger storage/higher ram versions but in the absence of any meaningful pro apps that actually require this kind of power, that has turned out to be overkill. This time I chose a more modest setup which will still be more than any app needs.

I bought the 512gb pro, and it is definitely a hit for me. Now mind you, I'm coming from a 2017 12.9" so the difference is stark, and I just don't mean the screen. I edited a video last night on davinci resolve for iPad, and after unlocking the hidden pages, the experience was superior to that on my 16" m1pro. Effortless and intuitive editing! I got a Satechi stand, full-size Bluetooth keyboard, and pebble mouse. the result is an ultra minimalistic desktop setup that is highly functional for browsing, word processing, email, "notion" planning, Zoom, video editing, design and more.

Hey Steve, that's the configuration I chose too. I'm not sure about the backwards compatibility with the keyboard. The pencil won't work, because of the changed magnet and charging placement.

Great review as always. On the software side: I feel the app developers are at least as much to blame as iPadOS. Software companies like Microsoft and others seem to deliberately offer ‘lite’ versions of their software for the iPad with limited functionality. With the hardware power and even iPadOS the way it is, it should be possible to offer fully featured versions of business software to make the iPad a real laptop alternative.

I’m happy that the 11 inch got oled. I previously wanted the 12.9” due to its miniLED display. I’m bummed that my less than a year old  pencil cannot be used with the new Pros. Also the fact the 1&2TB only get the nano screen, 16GB of ram and 10 core. I don’t see how they can dramatically change the design of the iPad. Next stop has to be folding

7:20 I wonder why nobody mentions Apple removed the wide angle camera. Yes it wasn’t good but it was great to have the option. I used it to measure larger objects when there’s little space to work with, or in conference halls to snap slides when I’m sitting too close. I have a 2020 iPad Pro 11” and it’s still going strong. I’m limping along with a 2018 iPad Pro (12.9 inch) and while I love it, I could use an upgrade. I’m eager to see your assessment of the new iPad Pro model and the accessories but I would be in the market for the larger model. It will be interesting to see all of the hands on reviews when Apple ships them out. After comparing my iPad Pro M1 to the M4 version, honestly it actually aged very well due to the ultrawide camera on my iPad pro m1 version and the M1 chip is still a powerful chip from the M Chip Apple Silicon series, so I'll just wait for the MacBook Pro M4s

I'm not making creators stuff so I don't need these "magic stuff". Dont missunderstand me, but for this very very expensive price, ipad pro, magic keyboard, pencil... I love new tecs but.. The price. If i would like to game, I buy ps5, If I would like perfect screen for movie I buy an oled tv. Pros should be that price where airs are. Or just a little bit higher.

Wanted a Mini too. But the 13” Air tempted me. However, I checked prices for used M2 iPad Pros and ended up nabbing a 256gb model with a Magic Keyboard for less money than I would’ve spent to get the new Air. More storage and the miniLED 120hz screen with the same M2 chip.

It’s a hit for me, a big hit. I have the 12.9” M1 iPad Pro and the new M4 13” upgrades almost everything from the display tech (hopefully the tandem oled surpasses mini led like they’re advertising) to moving the front camera to the top instead of the side; it’s pretty much a more perfected version of the iPad I have and Best Buy trade in knocks off several hundred dollars. I still wanted a bigger screen like 16” maybe, and a 16:10 aspect ratio so widescreen movies don’t have as much blank black space on top and bottom (but apparently 4:3 is better for artists). I still prefer iPadOS (which is just enlarged iOS and that’s why I love it) over macOS so I’ll always prefer iPad Pros over MacBook Pros (not to mention MacBooks will always have the keyboard section there whether you want it or not).

I don’t need MacOS on the IPad. I like IPadOS for what it is, with continuous improvements. I like my Mac on big screens with multiple displays.

@@peraman2022 I just don’t care for desktop OS compared to mobile. I like having everything be a separate app instead of just more and more browser tabs. Plus there’s little things like some streaming services don’t let you download for offline viewing on desktop like you can on mobile, and twitch on mobile doesn’t have ads like browser version does

I think nobody that owns an M2 needs to upgrade. Maybe artists and a handful of niche users that need very specific features. But for the average user, this is a cosmetic upgrade.

The OLED display is the best implementation of OLED on the planet right now. Yes, for a media consumption device, this is a pretty big deal. Does it NEED an M4 chip? Not for many people, but that display is going to be a game changer going from LCD on the older 11” Pro.

I have a 2020 iPad pro 12.9 I have enjoyed using it for the last 4 years for light photo and video editing to reading comic books which look amazing on a 12.9 inch screen ,playing games and watching movies what I was hoping for with the 20024 model was more battery life gaming can really hit the battery hard a better screen and a little bit more gpu power I feel like the new model delivers 2 out of 3 that i was looking for I wish apple would have left it the same size to fit a bigger battery thinner isn't always better

Marques made that point as well. I would agree. I'm sure it will feel nice and airy but will it bend? The previous models were plenty thin, more battery life would have been better.

I am unsure if to get the iPad Pro, or not. What I most want is update to iPadOS to allow use of MacOS applications which would enable me to travel the world (I am about 5 months a year mobile) with just one device instead of two. I would even be happy if that MacOS functionality only worked with the Magic Keyboard and not by touch. But as it is the new iPad Pro looks tempting, being lighter and with OLED screen, but I am quite happy with the performance of my 2021 iPad Pro 2TB, and as I don't think there is any new functionality, really it is questionable if worth £2,500 to buy new with the same capabilities I already have. The only thing really pushing me to buy is the battery life of my 2021 device which I use about 8 hours every day is noticeably deteriorating and I often don't make a whole day without charging.

@@stefanjohnsson5661 for myself photo editing. I go out on photo shoot and come back with maybe 3,000 images. On Mac I use Photo Mechanic to cull very quickly. There is no equivalent app for iPadOS. Then if the light was poor a lot of images will need denoising. On Mac I will use Topaz Photo AI. Again no equivalent application for iPadOS. Just one example of a workflow where the limitations of iPadOS mean I have still got to carry Mac, despite everything else in workflow, such as the actual editing of the photos can be done better on an iPad with touch.

The fact that the new iPad pros are not compatible with the Apple pencil 2 but they are with the Apple pencil 1 is craziness. I have no idea what Apple is doing with that. Definitely still good with my M1 pro.

I suspect is because of the change in camera orientation. Probably moved the magnets so the older pencil doesn't correspond.

It took two years for an iPad upgrade for the first time since release. This upgrade packed 2 years worth of updates, no more no less. Its just an incremental update when you zoom out a little. I still don't know why people buy tablets though.
