There is a new player in the electric motorcycle market. UK-based Maeving has officially opened shop in the US and looks set to speed up your daily commute with its retro-inspired electric two-wheelers. Electric motorcycles have been shaking up the mobility space for the last few years, and small to mid-displacement models seem to be the sweet spot when it comes to making quick work of urban chaos.
Maeving's two-wheelers take it a step further by adding a touch of classic style. Specifically, the RM1 and RM1S have been announced for the US market and are currently on display at the Bike Shed Moto Co in Los Angeles and the Motoring Club and Coffee in west Los Angeles.
For starters, they're sure to catch the attention of onlookers and enthusiasts of all things retro, as well as spark interest among people looking for more sustainable mobility alternatives. Styling-wise, the RM1 and RM1S can best be described as a cross between a café racer and a bobber. With a sporty stance and a shortened tail accentuated by a floating seat, the bikes undoubtedly look like they're going to do the trick.
Maeving also paid great attention to detail in the faux fuel tank, which can also be used as a storage compartment. The pipe containing the cables from the battery to the control unit also resembles an imaginary exhaust system.
When it comes to performance, the RM1 serves as the brand's entry-level offering, with a hub motor that delivers a nominal output of approachable 3 kW (about 4 horsepower). The engine reaches 4.4 kW or approximately 5.8 horsepower and provides a top speed of 45 miles per hour. Depending on how you specify it, the RM1 promises a range of 40 to 80 miles on a single charge. An urban track has a lot of range. At $6,495, it's a pretty expensive car, but it makes up for it with stylish styling.
As for the RM1S, it has more than twice the power, with a nominal 7 kW (9.4 ponies) and a maximum of 10.5 kW (14 horsepower), meaning that with a top speed of 70 miles per hour, it's not only faster, but certainly a lot more powerful. provides more power. It is more fun to ride for those who desire the performance of a small volume IYM motorcycle. Considering the fairly light 293-pound weight figure, 80 miles of range on a single charge is also pretty good. To get double the performance of the RM1, you'll have to pay a pretty hefty $8,995 for the RM1S.
