Update… you can stick the nut driver end of the shaft in your impact. However you have to pull out on your collet 100% and push the shaft in with some force. It also is only a friction fit at that point (like what I showed in the Milwaukee screwdriver handle). Your collet will not lock onto it. So, I still stand by that it doesn’t “work” in your impact that way… but you can put it in that way if you like spending some effort to do it.
Does it work with the 13mm jis collet or any of thoes vessels which swallows bits? I know you don't have the annex racheting yet but prying minds gotta know.
impacts & magnets don't really mix anyway. I have yet to meet an apprentice electrician with enough discipline not to destroy any "impact rated" magnet. They also don't understand shallow socket; they drive in anchors with them and get the socket to slip, gall & bind on the shaft.
What an outstanding explanation of the new Malco! When I first saw it, I thought I had to get it. After seeing your detailed review, I don't think it works for me and what I do. Thanks for taking the time to do the review! They really help us out here in RU-vid world make decisions about purchases!
As a HVAC tech i used malco love them but since Klein came out with the 7 in 1 i fell in love with it and with the 20 in 1 that came later last year i dont have to carry alot of screwdrivers in my tool pouch
Great find! Sockets seems to be like the 2nd version of the Klein. It's designed for impact, 2 pics on amazon show that along with a Malco Connext3 handle. Not sure how that #2 Philips is supposed to be driven... appears they show the ball bearing end going into an impact when using the #2 Philips. Thanks for making the video!
@@projectpinehills I didn’t see that picture but you had me second guessing myself making me double check 😂 I can’t get it to go in my Impacts, it goes until it hits the ball and then stops
@@MORGANSMaintenance Malco also shows it on an impact on their website and they have a video on their TY channel with impact. I guess the #2 bits only work when using a handle like the Klein that you demonstrated... maybe only on a drill, that's not how it's illustrated in their video.
This seems like a step back and a pre-thought before Klein thought of theirs. For a setup like this with the flip sockets I think Klein is still the leader.
The inconsistency between the different malco shafts really shows how much we should appreciate the cross compatibility of Klein’s knect system. Every time I go to lowes I always check the klein section to see if there’s anything new 😂
Thanks for reviewing this and showing which sockets are interchangeable between brands. It’s interesting Malco tried to do something different(or maybe they’re avoiding paying Klein royalties on a bit holder patent), and it fits a niche for HVAC techs who know they’re going to use the same bit all day, since 1” bits might fall out/get misplaced. Klein is still king of the flip socket IMO though. I rarely use my Klein flip sockets as a bit holder, but it’s nice to have the option. 👍
Great overview. Nice set, but not good enough to replace my Klein set (on the 14-in-1 handle) and its compatibility with the KNECT system. Way too compact and convenient.
Malco has a similar poor availability for me over here, although it does look like there is some bit of the Knect system becoming available on Amazon UK. Can't see the Malco offering anything the Klein system can't do though.
Thank you for the great overview. I have not used their products yet, but their single units have always looked more robust than the Klein to me. But this implementation is less encouraging.
@@markkempton4579 the single ones are really nice, been using them for a long time. Klein just has too many options currently with the overall flip sockets for the others to be the winner.
You had the same thought as me, trying to take the sockets off to use on the older style Malco shafts. Too bad. I agree with you the new shaft seems a bit confusing/backwards. I think it would give me a headache trying to remember how to flip all the sockets around back and forth to use the Philips bit lol. I think I would try to just ignore the Philips bit completely and keep it set up the other way around. But if it’s still good Malco quality, it might be pretty decent as just a nut driver that way.
The middle socket in my Klein gets jammed up, and i need pliers to get it off. Second purchase and same problem. I'm hoping someone with better steel or design steps in. KNECT pass-through seems awesome, but for the price and quality of Klein lately I'm waiting. No problems with their impact multi-driver so far though, I wish the klein extended reach 6-1 held up better because its much lighter.
Mine are more screwdriver used because I have other Nut drivers when I’m using my impact.. I think that has made me not have the same issues as several people. Not that you should be having those issues…
I think ill avoid this. super clean idea, however the lack of the 9/16 is a bummer. I love the updated klein for its removal of 11/32 and addition of 9/16. I got the Milwaukee and from what i can tell, the sockets do better in an impact due to the construction of the oval cutouts on the corners for the fastener. If klein could replicate that in their 9 in 1, itd be a no brainer.
To me Klein just has too many options with shaft sizes, other sizes, metric, etc… that currently it’s the one worth delving into (but that’s just my opinion)
@@MORGANSMaintenance im yet to get into an issue with its length. i have to agree, they kill it with the amount of options you have. both in size of shanks, and options for socket sizes (sae and metric!)
I just got one of their connext3 driver handles and was looking for something to mainly use it as a bit driver. Occasionally, a socket spinner. Is the regular c-rhex better for that?
@@shadow7796 none of MALCO’S nutdrivers hold bits if that’s what your asking. I don’t have the connect driver. As far as holding bits, I like the Dewalt locking bit holders
Do you know if there's an adapter for these sockets to work with a standard 3/8" ratchet, like the Milwaukee 12v? Seems like I'd need a 3/8" female and a Klein impact male end.
Chances are I'd try it like all the others. In reality I'm just gonna most likely stick with my makita sockets and malco flip sockets. There's a simplicity to the original and having to pull small loose able peices off like the klein in any fashion isn't appealing. I think they did miss the mark on this one they could have cloned what people are already doing and raked in the money off name alone based on being the original. Next time stick to what people know and yes I'm gonna try this but I don't have high hopes.
I’m like you, in my impacts I normally run the original MALCO’S on jobs. I am mostly one fastener at a time so not a lot of switching. Generally just use the flip sockets in my service type bags for space
I know. I guess the nut driver end will still work, but being able to change the bit in the Klein is a better option in my opinion. They may fall out from time to time, but you at least aren’t one and done
I don't see any reason I'd switch mine. The Klein looks like the better choice anyway because of bit flexibility. The only thing that might matter (unlikely if the Malco is indeed not impact-rated), would be the results of a test showing that the Klein and/or Milwaukee will shatter under circumstances that the Malco would survive.
That would be a good test. I believe they are all made in Taiwan, and my guess is likely a similar production facility (just a guess) probably not much difference between them.
Personally, I don't think they should of put a bit on the one end, really seems pointless. If I get one I'll just keep the 1/4-5/16 on the end and store the other sockets on the shaft.
@@search_eternal I don’t like how they did it on this one. I don’t use the bit feature much on the Klein, but at least you can pretty much put in any bit you want
VACO has one too. (VACO VAC1071 Impact Driver, 7-in-1 Metric Multi-Bit Impact Flip Socket Set with Handle, Magnetic, 6 Hex Sizes and 1/4-Inch Bit Holder)
Yeah malco missed the mark with this one. They sat back for years and allowed Klein to eat in to their market share they came out with a dud... 11/32 socket? Fixed bit?? This is just an L product unfortunately
If you bought into there old ones years ago they were made in usa then usa with global materials now Taiwan. I still look at the packages at stores to score a made in usa one.
Surprising I use 11/32 in old houses and square bolts. It also makes a substitute for some metric sizes if there manged or crusty. It's not something I was expecting but you never know!
