*It drives me crazy when some ppl are like "If this was a song by some random band I'd really like it.. but since I expect more from Metallica, it's just "meh". Yes I like this song. No it doesn't blow me away but it doesn't have to. They've already done that 100 times over, they're 60 yrs old, they're still putting out quality music and that's good enough for me. I don't need a rehash/redo of the Master of Puppets/And Justice For All days or any song they do just blow my mind to still be able to appreciate, recognize and respect them for their musical talent. Thanks for the reaction.*
@@joshbrewer4309 The one which goes 'we're so f'd, slit out of luck, blacked out pop queen, amphetamine, Allure, Allure, sweatness obscure,' and you just roll your eyes. Yeah, that's Shitwired.
I've been with metallica since their inception. When I hear criticisms of particular songs or albums I just feel like I do when super rich people buy 100 dollar meals in Venice then go to Paris and are so pretentious they judge 2 excellent meals one against the other and say one is crap. I hate it! Some people seem so entitled at the way metallica should please them that they hate on them for not "living up". Artists in their purity go where their art takes them. I'm just appreciative for the ride. This song ROCKS!
Upper left corner dude I dunno who you are but the way you just laughed with happiness through the whole thing gives me so much life. Pretty much my reaction the first several times through.
David: Haha, yeah, I just can’t help it. I am a super fan when it comes to Metallica’s music, so goofy faces are pretty much the norm for me on first listens.
When I first heard this tune the other night I was kinda torn, as far as my initial impression. Now a couple days have gone by and I have found myself repeatedly going back to listen to it, over and over. The chorus where James screams the song title is everything in this track. That and the kick drums. But just the way James climbs the ladder vocally to belt out the chorus is such an amazing hook. This almost feels like a sorta power metal almost-but-not-quite Dokken-type vibe meets British new wave meets sped-up Load riffage meets a more polished version of Hit the Lights. It's gonna be a go-to live song (the lyrics kinda reflect that) and the song's energy and the boys' own energy are undeniable. I can't explain it, but all I know is my ear loves it. I'm very happy Metallica is back with new tunes and I'm also very happy they kept the album under wraps so now it's arriving soon - to MY mind - rather than them announcing it 2 years out and then us playing the waiting game. These old dogs can still hunt.
There is a riff in there that is from "Hit the lights" , "Lightning the Nation" is a take on the song "Lightning to the Nations" by Diamond Head. "Full speed or nothing" from the tune Motorbreath! Kirk's solo lacked not melody like most say but more a sense of beginning and end...imo. It was surprising! Awesome production, energy and vocals!! Great show guys btw!
This is kill em all with good production that's all it is. The reason why that album doesn't get the critique like this current song would is because no one ever heard anything like that before.
If you took young James voice and put on this, it would be right at home in 81-84. If this came out in 84 people would’ve loved it in the thrash scene. I was there.
I have been listening to Metallica since before I could talk I was born just a few months before Ride the lightning was released, in all the years, they've never let me down, their music is now and has always been absolutely incredible.
simply made the past into the future out of nothing. this disc is wise and clever. rousing and pleasantly rustic in a positive sense 🤘 definitely one of the most manifested songs ever
Cool reaction it the 6song off the album so it could be intense album or 77 minutes of everything else done by them in life. Hopefully this is weak off the album. Lars did say it heavyset album for them so far and best to
People that aee not deep metal heads would not pick up on what Kirk is doing on his solo. Yes its short but he's playing homage to Hank Sherman from Mercyful Fate. The whammy bar pull offs with the decending up the neck is Hank Sherman's signature leads. The symbol hitsand stops are references also to Mercyful Fate as in "Curse of the Pharoahs" and the drum kick is reference to MotorHead's "OverKill" and also has some Judas Priest vibes all together in a 3 minute song!

In what bizarro world are we living in where the song Hardwired wasn’t universally see as an absolute ripping, face-melting tune?? I simply don’t know what to do with what I’m hearing right now. 😂 That song rules.
I was just as excited when Metallica suddenly dropped a new track in 2016. Unfortunately, i immediately pegged "Hardwired" as an uninspired, soulless track with poor vocals/lyrics. Luckily not all tracks (though some) on the album Hatdwired aren't the same dribble.
@@joshbrewer4309 I like this whole song......people hate on Metallica because that's what "old school" metal heads are supposed do..... hate Metallica because of Napster, St. Anger, Lulu and a bunch of other bad metal musical decisions which the band has made......I don't care, this song kicks ass. I play guitar. I've been playing guitar forever. After doing the research and replaying full albums and playing the notes at proper BPM.......the guitar solo part at 2:32 is EXACTLY the same notes as what Kirk recorded for one of the solos on the Master Of Puppets song.....Do I think Kirk kinda ripped himself off? Yes. Am I mad about it? Hell no! The song is great over all.....let's not forget that these dudes are getting so old they could apply for Social Security Benefits........yet they're still belting out these awesome tracks.

David: I agree it definitely gives me hardwired vibes but I think it kinda does what hardwired was trying to do only better. That could be recency bias though 😅
@@joshbrewer4309 absolutely, you have to work as hard as they did on that song ! You can “hear” the time and effort that they invested in that song …. That’s not just a “track” that’s “ music “ !
Lux is a much better song. It just feels like Metallica are not really trying on this one. They have written some of the best metal in history, and this song does not live up to that...
The riff is decent, that’s it !!! It’s too poppy, true Metallica should sound serious and dark. I don’t believe they will ever return to that. If you like it that’s fine but i fell in love with the old style.
I just hope that the album is not full of slow beat crap like we've seen on Hardwired. I didn't care for that album except for Atlas and Bones. This is a good fast first single but I'm hoping for some switch ups and more trashy riffs.
Great song. Hate the solo. Kirk has been playing the same wah saturated similar solos in every song since death magnetic. He is a lazy lead guitarist at this point in my opinion.
David: I want Kirk to go back to the days where he actually composes a solo and not just kinda jams one out. That said this solo was fine to me and fit the style of the song.
David: I think the solo is fine but I am hoping for some more “composed” solos and less “jam” type solos on the rest of the tracks. But I very much liked the song overall.
Albeit assisted with effects, I think this is James best vocal performance since Reload. I mean this is just one song, so that's a premature take, but still.
